Name the thirty-nine historic counties of England.

The hints indicate for each county whether it exists currently ('Extant'), whether there's now a county with a derivative name ('Similar'), or whether it's been disestablished and never revived ('Defunct').
Names ending in 'shire' will complete automatically when the 's' is typed.
If all else fails, think about county cricket teams!
:( didn't do very well on your quiz here... but I stopped by to say I had responded to your question on the Famous Founders quiz. Just didn't see it until today.
This quiz is about historic counties, not ceremonial ones. Before 1889, these were the areas with their own local government. These are distinct from "ceremonial counties", or lieutenancy areas, which have been appointed a Lord-Lieutenant, but do not have their own local government.
A few more type-ins could be more helpful (e.g. Hants for Hampshire, Oxon for Oxfordshire, and Salop for Shropshire. This last one is all the more relevant as the county was known as Salop officially for a while).
