These are the domestic box office returns for franchises as defined by the-numbers.com, which counts smaller sub-franchises within connected universes (take note, superhero fans) for BOTH the sub-franchise and the connected universe. Predominant (current) movie studios provided as a hint.
Franchises include both canonical and non-canon entries. Updated through 9/11/2025.
Number of movies has been adjusted from the source to include only theatrically released films.
Grosses are not inflation-adjusted and may include re-releases, special editions, etc.
Franchises that are all animation are marked with (a), and franchises that include a mix of animated and live action features are marked with (m).
Tried to clarify this in the comments - the source double-counts entries that span multiple franchises. The four Avengers movies are a sub-component of the MCU, just as the three Iron Man movies are. Unfortunately, the source also counts a ton of not-yet-released movies, special format re-releases, direct-to-video movies, etc. toward the total number of movies. And I just realized that I forgot to change the # of movies for Avengers - it should be 4, not 6.
I would add that you accept just the word Marvel for the MCU but you don't accept just DC for the DC extended universe. please be consistent. I would also agree with the first comment that Avengers is just as much a part of the MCU as iron man, or Thor or guardians of the galaxy, etc. etc. should be 33 movies. good quiz otherwise. even if I take those two my score still was only 16/20 so good challenge.
