Interesting to see Austria and Hungary sent separate teams. Do you know possibly why that happened?

Wikipedia simply says Austrian and Hungarian results at early Olympic Games are generally kept separate despite the union of the two nations as Austria-Hungary at the time - which doesn't exactly answer your question!
