WWE started the 90's by having no women's championship, deactivating it until 1993. It lasted until '95, when the face of the division defected to WCW and dropped the belt in a trashcan. WWE's was revived again in '97 with the advent of the Attitude Era. WCW had their own title as well and Valets and managers continued to have their presence felt in both companies.
