A very enjoyable quiz - and deceptively tricky! I didn't manage to get 'Leicester' and I have lived here for 10 years!!!

One note for QM - I'd like to see Liecester accepted as an alternate spelling, just for those of us who don't live in the UK and have rarely, if ever seen the word (this is the first alternate spelling request I've made, and I've done hundreds of quizzes here)

What? How can you ask for an anagram to have an alternative spelling, you may as well ask for daciffr to be an alternative spelling for Cardiff because I'd never heard of it so rearranged the letters to make a word that I thought looked a bit like it might be a place.

it would be like accepting Now Yerk, for New York (hey that is a funny one! never knew it was an anagram haha)

The whole point of this quiz is that the letters need to be arranged in the correct order with no alternative spellings.

For "Wentpro" I kept trying "Portwen" until I remembered that place was just made up for Doc Martin. Darn you Martin Clunes for making such a memorable character/series!

As someone who lives in Nottingham, I can assure you that it's a real place. It is the home of twice European football champions Nottingham Forest (1978/79 and 1979/80 seasons) and 1984 Winter Olympic ice dance gold medallists Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean.

Our textbooks for learning English in school was Nottingham-centered for some reason. I still remember they mentioned that Nottingham is home to the Olde Trip to Jerusalem, the oldest pub in the UK (although that's more of a marketing claim).

This quiz is featured on the same day as another one about fruit. I guess I didn't pay much attention to what I'd clicked, so I spent the first minute or so trying hard to unscramble all these fruits I'd never heard of. All while thinking that, unexpectedly, this was the toughest quiz I'd ever taken.

It’s spelt Worcestershire sauce and pronounced wuss-tuh-shuh-sorss in England (but there are variations including your suggestion).

"Kingston" should not be included for Kingston upon Hull. "Kingston" generally refers to this Kingston in London. "Kingston upon Hull" is usually referred to as just Hull (like the football team).

Needs more time. Unless you intend people to work them all out in advance and then type them in, which really makes a time limit redundant.

Had plenty of time imo. I got nearly all of them instantly and then had enough time to try all options for Ely (twice because I forgot which I had tried already before I did it again systematically), and several for ywrne until my subconscious told me there might be a city called newry. And I think I stared forever at nritlgsi (like a full minute? felt like it anyway)

(and I am not from the UK so have no advantage)

Edit: did it again to see how much time there is to guess. Once I did all the ones I could see immediately I had about 1:30 minute left. In this case I had missed 2 on my first check of the words. So one and a half minute to try to make sense of 2 words does not seem too bad. I did not manage to get em though this time. One was cofermhdsl and I had never heard of chelmsford nor could I make an educated guess.

Perhaps this will help. First only do the ones you see immediately, skip the others. And then I checked if there were words that have -ham or -port something other (common suffixes) hidden in them (did not think of -ford ;) ). If you don't see it then, it might atleast help you to make an educated guess.

I got them all, but had never heard of ely. And nottingham and stirling were very hard to unscramble (for me, stirling may have been less hard if I was more familiar with it). Newry was also tough, not sure I have heard of it before or not.

And people that use these answers to finish the quiz, really.. what gratification do you get by just copying answers..
