The 12 cells with a blue background are the 12 largest countries in the world (they are blue in the map)
All connecting borders are land borders with one exception: a maritime border where you need to swim less than 10 km
Each path has more landlocked countries than the one to its left; specifically it has either 1 more or twice as many
In each path landlocked countries appear consecutively
No row contains precisely one doubly landlocked country

HINT EQUATIONS FROM ANSWER GRID (cells can border diagonally too, "coastal" means non-landlocked):
a: number of landlocked answers not bordering landlocked answers
b: number of coastal answers not bordering coastal answers
c: landlocked answers surrounded by 8 landlocked answers
d: coastal answers surrounded by 8 coastal answers
The following are true: a <= b; a + b = c; a + b + c = d

With the 12 blue countries you need to make 6 pairs with 9 other countries in between, without cutting off any of the remaining ones. In some cases you have very little or no choice. I'll give more explicit hints if you prefer
