Message Board Review - 2025

The first full year of the Message Board has come to an end (well, it ended nearly a month ago, but still), and what an eventful year it has been! Here, you'll find a lot of (hopefully) interesting stats for the Message Board in 2025, including some stats that you've never seen (and will never see!) in the monthly MB recaps. But before we start, here are a few things to keep in mind.

✓ These data may not be completely accurate for the following reasons:

- Certain threads may have been edited or deleted after publication;

- User Astana deleted her account in May;

- The April 2025 MB incident resulted in the deletion of numerous threads and comments, along with a six-month MB ban for about 50 users. Because of this, data from before early April should be taken with a grain of salt. (thanks to TheOfficialWheel for pointing this out!)

✓ All thread titles in this blog are shown exactly as they appear on the Message Board.

- This means that all spelling and grammatical errors, capitalization, punctuation, as well as the use of British / American spellings in the thread titles, will be preserved.

- A total of 1,223 threads were made in 2025, for an average of 3.35 threads per day.

- The average time between threads was 7 hours, 9 minutes and 46 seconds.

- The month with the most MB activity was December, with 147 threads made in that month; the month with the least MB activity was January with only 57 threads made during the month.

- The day with the most threads was February 9, with 13 threads.

- A total of 322 unique users made a thread at some point during the year, giving an average of 3.80 threads per user. 191 of those users (59.3%) only made one thread.

Here are the months of 2025 in the order of most to least MB activity, as measured by the number of threads created:

- All MB thread titles in 2025 contained 36,355 characters in total (including spaces), for an average of 29.7 chars per title.

- The longest thread title consisted of 64 characters. In fact, 11 threads had 64 chars in their titles, three of which seemed to have been cut off. This is strong evidence that a hard limit of 64 chars is in place on the MB.

- The shortest thread title contained only 2 characters. In case you're wondering, that thread was titled "Hi", and made by J00nyir on February 26.

Here's a more detailed distribution of the lengths of thread titles:

Of all 1,223 threads in 2025:

- 6 (0.5%) ended in an ellipsis "…";

- 1 (0.1%) ended in an interrobang "‽";

- 1 (0.1%) ended in a right square bracket "]";

- 333 (27.2%) ended in a question mark "?";

- 36 (2.9%) ended in a period / full stop ".";

- 24 (2.0%) ended in a right parenthesis ")";

- 1 (0.1%) ended in a left parenthesis "(";

- 4 (0.3%) ended in a double quotation mark (");

- 76 (6.2%) ended in an exclamation mark "!";

- 1 (0.1%) ended in a single quotation mark (');

- 740 (60.5%) did not end in a punctuation mark.

Of all 1,223 threads in 2025:

- 1,189 (97.2%) adhered to Sentence case by capitalizing the first letter;

- Of these, approximately 518 threads additionally followed Title Case by capitalizing the first and last word in the title, and all other words except articles, prepositions with five or fewer letters and coordinating conjunctions.

- All MB threads in 2025 received 8,480 likes in total, for an average of 23.2 likes per day, 6.93 likes per thread and 26.3 likes per unique user.

- The month with the most likes was April, with 1,733; the month with the fewest was January with only 178.

- The month with the most likes per thread was April, with 1,733 likes and 123 threads, averaging 14.1 likes per thread; the month with the fewest was January with 3.12 likes per thread (178 likes and 57 threads).

- The day with the most likes was April 8, with 190; the day with the most likes per thread was April 6, with 67 likes and a single thread.

Comments:

- All MB threads in 2025 received 8,724 comments in total, for an average of 23.9 comments per day, 7.13 comments per thread and 27.1 comments per unique user.

- The month with the most comments was December, with 1,764; the month with the fewest was January with only 159.

- The month with the most comments per thread was December, with 1,764 comments and 147 threads, averaging (exactly) 12 comments per thread; the month with the fewest was March with only 2.60 comments per thread (320 comments and 123 threads).

- The day with the most comments was August 12, with 160; the day with the most comments per thread was October 26, with 39 comments and a single thread.
