Top-7 most known people in history

7th- Princess Diana of Wales

Diana Frances Spencer (1961-1997), a.k.a. Diana of Wales or Lady Di, was the Princess of Wales and the first wife of Charles III, mother of Princes William and Harry.

Died on 6 September 1997 in a car crash in Paris.

Although Lady Di's figure is not as recognized as some decades back, she was very influential during her reign, supporting causes like the fight against AIDS and cancer, the removal of landmines, and promoting the Red Cross Organization.

The reason she's in the top is that her funeral was televised and seen by 2.5 billion people, the third most-well-attended funeral of all time. Therefore, she must be in the top 7.

6th- Michael Jackson

Michael Joseph Jackson (1958-2009), a.k.a. the King of Pop, was a singer and songwriter who sang in Jackson 5 and as a solo artist. Wrote the songs 'Bad', 'Smooth Criminal', 'We are the World', and the album 'Thriller' (the Most sold album in history)

He died on June 25, 2009, due to a cardiac arrest due by a propofol overdose.

Michael Jackson is, without any doubt, the most famous singer of all time.

He's been present in music since the 70s, and his albums are unarguably bestsellers. And the other fact that highlights Michael among the other people is that his funeral (again) had between 2.5B and 3B viewers; therefore, many people knew who Michael was.

5th- Queen Elizabeth II

Elizabeth Alexandra Mary (1926-2022), a.k.a. Elizabeth II, was the queen of the United Kingdom (and 30 other states during her life) since 1953, was married to Prince Phillip of Greece and Denmark, mother of King Charles III.

Died on 8 September 2022 at Balmoral, Scotland, due to old age.

She is recognized as an important monarch in the history of the UK and the world, having ruled the English empire she founded. Her 70-year 214-day reign has influenced the course of history.

The most important fact for this blog is that her funeral was also televised and seen by 4B people, the most-watched event in history.

4th- Adolf Hitler

Adolf Hitler (1889-1945), a.k.a. The Führer, was a politician and German dictator who ruled the Third Reich from 1934 to 1945. Wrote Mein Kampf and Zweites Buch, led the Holocaust, and founded the NAZI party (National Socialist German Party).

Died on April 29th, 1945, committing suicide along with his wife, in his Bunker.

I know that Hitler's figure is highly controversial, and I apologize to whoever has been influenced by his acts, yet Adolf's legacy in history has been huge and long-lasting.

After the 1950s, 9 out of ten adults were conscious of the Führer's existence, and with the Edgys, I guess his figure will last forever.

3rd- Buddha Gautama

Siddharta Gautama (563-483), a.k.a. Buda Shakyamuni, was a prince of Kapilavastu and a philosopher. He left his palace while looking for spiritual awareness and founded Buddhism. He's also known for writing the 4 noble truths.

He died around 483 B.C., from an illness, in Kushinagar. (Dead date is discussed)

Prince Siddhartha is the most well-known Eastern royal figure of all time.

This alone isn't sufficient for making his figure last on time; the thing is that he founded the nowadays third most followed religion (Buddhism).

NOTE: In Buddhism, he's a simple person; Buddha never talked about gods or so! No serious person categorizes Buddha as inexistent or a deity.

2nd- Prophet Muhammad

l-Qāsim Muḥammad ibn ‘Abd Allāh (570-632), a.k.a. Muhammad, was a politician and religious leader who led the early Muslim community. He founded Islam, wrote the Quran, and unified Saudi Arabia.

He died on June 8th, 632 a.C. on Aisha's House (his wife), in Medina

I guess we all know why Muhammad's here. He's the founder of the second most followed religion of all time, and the most important prophet of it. (or just the last one, I don't know) His legacy was also political, since his heirs conquered and spread both Islam and Saudi influence.

Nowadays, it is well known in the West since politics, and in the East is known even by some tribes of New Guinea.

NOTE: Muhammad is a prophet of Allah according to the Quran, not a god or an incarnation of one! No one seriously denies the existence of Prophet Muhammad.

Special mentions:

In special mentions, I will include several persons who weren't as famous as the mentioned ones, but deserve to be on the list, so here they are:

•John (Jesus' disciple, wrote Revelation)

•John the Baptist (Baptized Jesus of Nazareth)

•Paul of Tarsus (Wrote 11 books of the Bible)

•Peter (Jesus' disciple, 1st pope)

•The Virgin Mary (Mother of Jesus)

•Aisha (Muhammad's wife)

•Abraham (Founder of Judaism)

•King David (Wrote Psalms)

•King Solomon (Wrote Song of Songs and Proverbs)

-----------Finalized the religious section--------------

•Thomas Alva Edison (Patented 1.2k inventions)

•Nicola Tesla (Inventor of radio and bulb light)

•Albert Einstein (Writer of Special Relativity)

•Sir Isaac Newton (Discoverer of gravity, optics, and calculus)

•Cleopatra (Queen of Ancient Egypt)

•Alejandro Magnus (Emperor of the Macedonian Empire)

•Napoleon Bonaparte (Emperor of the French Empire)

•Julius Caesar (The Caesar)

•Donald Trump (Host of The Apprentice)

•Joseph Stalin (Soviet chairman)

•Martin Luther (Leader of the Protestant Reformation)

•Plato (Greek Philosopher)

•Socrates (Greek Philosopher)

•Aristotle (Greek Philosopher)

•Genghis Khan (Mongolian conqueror)

•Sub-special mentions to the Beatles, Shakespeare, and Leonardo Da Vinci.

1st- Jesus of Nazareth

Jesus of Nazareth (4~-33), a.k.a. Jesus Christ or Christ, was a Jewish preacher and religious leader. He founded Christianity and started the early church.

He was crucified on April 7, 33, in Jerusalem's outskirts.

Jesus of Nazareth is the most well-known person in history: He's present in almost all religions, he founded the most followed one, and his figure is culturally important. Nearly 2B people follow Christianity.

I think he wins Muhammad since his religion is more followed than Islam. In Islam, he's an important prophet; not all Christians know Muhammad was a person, and I'm biased. So, Jesus Christ wins the 1st place :)

NOTE: Christians say he had a human and a divine nature, without mixture: so he's human (and God, which you can disagree with). No serious person denies the existence of Jesus of Nazareth.

Good blog. One thing to correct is that Buddha is not a prophet in Islam(mentioned nowhere also some think due to his teachings).

It would have been interesting to have an introduction chapter explaining what you mean by "known". Lady Di being more known than Julius Caesar, Napoléon I or even Albert Einstein doesn't sound credible to me (but that's completely subjective since there is no answer to this question).

Surely the most important characters of the Bible, a book read and known by billions today and dozens of billions in history, are more well-known than any worldly leader or cultural icon.

I also think you're seriously underestimating how well-known major historical figures are. But, since you haven't given a criteria, I can't really make any judgements.

It's goofy that we even have to add the caveat that Jesus was real, as you said people are free to debate and deny the spiritual aspects of him, but at the very least he definitely was a real person that indeed existed and lived during that time.
