Context of mine:
I was in Sporcle, looking if they do mention Jetpunk with the enough frequency, and I found this thread of 11 commentaries where they discussed about the reason why they dislike Jetpunk
I’m just sharing the information as I found it. My intention is purely informative – not to criticize JetPunk or its community, nor to start rivalry. Special thanks to Quizmaster, Stewart, and all JetPunkers for allowing open discussions about different platforms.
This is the conversation I found:
@BananaPeel79 - Deleted Account (The guy who started the thread)
I heard that you guys don't like this quiz site and I wanted to know why. Is it just rivalry or do you have reasons? (-1 votes)
oh well JetPunk is kind of old looking and not appealing to the eye, I love the way sporcle operates and the way it looks and feels to play alot more than jetpunk (3 votes)
Personally, I don’t understand why people don’t like it. It’s just a quiz website. This also happens to be a quiz website — so what? (-1 votes)
I've never used it - I found Sporcle and stuck with it as I like it, I never felt the need to go and look for anything else after that, so I have no feelings about it at all! (12 votes)
Never heard of it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ (4 votes)
I used to use JetPunk before I came here, and I much prefer Sporcle to it.
@BananaPeel79 it's mostly personal preference, not rivalry. (2 votes)
I have tried other quiz sites, and have stuck with Sporcle, only because there is none other like it, despite it's ups and downs. (2 votes)
I'm with @Red_Bear. I will say- I've been here for 10 years, and I think I've seen jetpunk mentioned maybe twice before this. People may have their own preferences, but I'm not sure there's much of an actual meaningful rivalry. (6 votes)
I agree with @WikipediaMonster and @Red_Bear - I prefer Sporcle because I find the layout more welcoming, and there's also more of a community feel with this website. Additionally Sporcle was sometimes used as a learning tool at my secondary school (which is how I found out about it), but I've never heard JetPunk mentioned in real life, so I don't have a reason to check it out. I think the animosity is actually the other way around - from what I've gathered after looking around their website, JetPunk users seem to hate Sporcle simply because we're more popular and can't imagine why people would prefer Sporcle. (4 votes)
I generally like Jetpunk better. Sporcle has too many ads and not the greatest quiz ideas. (-5 votes)
Well, I'll tell you, there's one thing this thread has shown me that makes Sporcle better than JetPunk: Sporcle users don't go to JetPunk and create fake burner accounts to backhandedly promote Sporcle and then delete those accounts. (22 votes)
Friklazen_HUN (this dude loves writting)
Personally, I love both. I have no clue how I had found it in the first place, but I started on Sporcle, creating my account in May 2018. Ever since, I played 88,000 quizzes here, and created almost 500 public ones. In March 2023, I also made a JetPunk account, and reached a total level of 73 there. If I had to sum it up, I'd say Sporcle is more user-friendly, and JetPunk is more professional-feeling (if that's a word).
Sporcle uses a lot more CSS, therefore looks much more appealing to the eye. The publish schedule is different; with 10-14 quizzes published a day - as far as I know -, more than 60,000 quizzes earned a green tick. The quiz creating tools are also a lot simpler to learn and use, and while they offer a lot of space for creativity, they aren't limitless. Therefore, there's an insane amount of created quizzes here - almost 2 million! You can find quizzes in basically every topic, and there’s enough to keep someone engaged for as long as necessary. Though that may cause some people to think that quantity is becoming more important than quality, or else they won't be noticed in the ocean of quizzes.
Also, the community is a lot better here, with all these topics and games on the forum, and users who make this website more lively with their posts and bulletins. I also think that the fact that there are 1,430 badges to earn is just astounding - each with their own creative requirements, names and artworks. And I didn't even mention the off-site content, like MDQL, SporcleCon, or the live trivia shows.
Now for JetPunk. It's newer and smaller, we'll have to give it that. I think it only has ~20,000 featured quizzes, of which ~8,000 are in English - yep, JetPunk has featured quizzes in 9 languages, and you can find non-featured ones in at least 18 other. Also, Countries of the World is available in 64 languages.
I haven't really delved into quizmaking there, I only tried it once but I quit that project. However, the tools seem complicated; to create a map quiz, you need a separate SVG editor, and use HTML ids and classes. But also they offer more possibilities, because they are SVG- and HTML-driven, and you can see some quizzes there, that would be impossible to create on Sporcle - and vice versa, since Picture Click, Grid and Order Up quizzes don’t exist on JetPunk. And you get points for playing published quizzes, which is a feature I absolutely love. Also, there's no limit to the number of answers; as proven by the ALL First-Level Subdivisions of the World With a Map or All 3,143 Counties of the United States on a Map quizzes.
What about the community? Nope. No forums, no bulletins; there are blogs though, but I never looked at them. If we took a turn on the Name 100 Women challenge, and made it Name 100 Sporclers, I think I could easily do it. (Especially since I follow over 12,000 people; I have plans, I must say.) Now what about JetPunkers? Quizmaster. Stewart. BolyaiAnna. That's actually it. The first two are the site admins, the third one is someone I remembered because she has a Hungarian name, and her name is well-known in the Francophone community there. But at least the Discord servers are quite active. And also JetPunk has some fun minigames and a Daily Trivia.
A huge backside though is badges. JetPunk has only 33, and they're all... simple. A picture instead of a drawing, very simple names - like China, Country Trivia, Music, History or Welcome -, and the requirements are all “reach a specific score on X quizzes" with X usually being <10 - except for 3 badges, where it's 50, 100 and 198. I guess they compensate with their point system though...
And also something I don't know how to feel about: you can post graphs to you profile, and a map of the countries you visited. Okay, I guess.
In conclusion: both are great in their own way. Sporcle is more likely to catch the attention of those new to trivia quizzes, but if you’ve played quite a few, you can head over to JetPunk to earn some points - which are useless, but give you levels, which are cool. Or just stay here, and continue enjoying this amazing site with all its benefits. I try to be active on both of them, but Sporcle will always be my #1 site for creating and playing mentally stimulating diversions. (9 votes)
https://sporcle.com/user/Yankees2003/bulletin/76d81052e25b/ - It was a much bigger thing a few years ago, haven't really heard about jetpunk since. (2 votes)
I just wanted to share this conversation for anyone interested. Feel free to discuss your thoughts in the comments.
I won’t be giving my personal opinion on the matter, as I prefer letting you all form your own ideas.
This is the original post, so you can all check an eye on it :)
JP is just better in almost any way.
Personally, I like JetPunk better. What I like about it is that it's MUCH more geography-centered than the other site.
But, I still want to give an apologize to Hejman. He seems to be kinda mad about me. I meant this as an experiment, cause I already asked JetPunk users about Sporcle before and I could compare all the pros and cons then.
To be honest, I didn't notice any on Sporcle either, but then I didn't make any quizzes there either.
I've found a home on JetPunk, but the community here kinda disentigrated a bit, but I still like the atmosphere here better.
That's what caused the Hejman comment
Hm...
Wait, you can only make 50 quizzes monthly in Sporcle, and the timer can only reach 25:00. Oh, I love how sporcle lets you establish the URL of your quizzes! Wait, you can get the quiz up to 12 badges?? Badges are free in Sporcle. Multiple Choice quizmaking is horrible, it seems like freaking excel! THEY DON'T HAVE TILE SELECT??!?!? Why does Sporcle have a in-game coin... oh shoot, those are for microtransactions. Wait, why does Sporcle has ads that promote quizzes of Sporcle? This is so badddd
