Extras / Miscellaneous

Here's some other fun facts and stats that I think might be interesting.

5.1.

Spelling of "JetPunk"

The correct way to spell "JetPunk" is to either capitalize both the J and the P, or to capitalize neither. Here's a breakdown of how people did in thread titles:

✅ Both the J and the P were capitalized on 7 occasions;

✅ Neither the J nor the P was capitalized on 1 occasion;

❌ On another 1 occasion, the J was capitalized, but not the P.

Overall, "JetPunk" was correctly spelled on 8 out of 9 occasions, for a score of 89/100.

It seems, yet again, that there's always someone out there who can't get this simple spelling right. Please, just hold down Shift while you type that P. Easy peasy.

5.2.

Punctuation

Here's a look into whether thread titles ended with a punctuation mark, and which ones:

- 21 threads (17.1%) ended in a question mark "?";

- 5 threads (4.1%) ended in a period / full stop ".";

- 3 threads (2.4%) ended in a right parenthesis ")";

- 3 threads (2.4%) ended in an exclamation mark "!";

- 91 threads (74.0%) did not end in a punctuation mark.

5.3.

Length and Capitalization of Thread Titles

1. Length of Thread Titles

Have you noticed that some threads have much longer titles than others? Here's a look into the length of thread titles:

- All MB thread titles in April 2025 contained 3,358 characters in total (including spaces), for an average of 27.3 chars per title.

- Something interesting happened with the longest threads this month:

---- 1) Three threads are tied for the longest, namely: "Drop your favorite HTML for Quizzes, Blogs, or even posting in M" by JapisCool, "Municipalities of former Yugoslav countries quizzes taken for YT" by Hozi, and "Is there a way to swap the image after answering in a picture qu" by OBarbosa.

---- 2) All those threads have 64 characters in their titles, and two of them seem to have been cut off, suggesting that there might be a maximum character limit of 64 chars for MB thread titles.

- Two threads are tied for the shortest: "Hello" by SuperiorSicilia and "Polls" by Garrey. Both threads have only 5 chars in their titles.

2. Capitalization of Thread Titles

Even though they're technically "titles", not everyone on the MB adheres to Title Case in their thread titles. Here's a breakdown:

- 115 threads (93.5%) adhered to Sentence case by starting with a capital letter.

- Approximately 65 threads (52.8%) adhered to Title Case. Note that this is an "approximate" figure since there are slight variations in the exact rules of Title Case.

6.

Conclusion

This wraps up all the stats I have for the MB in April 2025. I hope you found it interesting. The next blog in this series will cover MB stats in the month of May 2025.

That's all for this blog, and see you in the next one.

Great blog! In early April (and late March too) there were lots of "troll" threads, spam threads and fights or discussions about a lot of dumb stuff. Before the date there wasn't really any moderation in the Message Board, until it was too much. So that's why Quizmaster, as you can see on this thread, shut off the message board for a full day and then banned 50 people for six months due to bad behavior or spamming. A lot of active people got banned so that's why there were a lot more likes too.

Thanks! I wasn't active back then and didn't know any of that. Wasn't exactly good news for those who got banned, but definitely one of the best things QM has ever done to the MB and to JP as a whole.

By the way, you did a great job posting all those "On This Day" threads! I haven't had a chance to read them but the effort you put into making them is evident from these data.

Well I mean I got banned, for what I assume was being active? I was unbanned a bit later, and so were a few others, and now everyone is. Whilst many deserved it, some, such as I assume myself since I was never given a reason, were caught in the crossfire.

Thank you very much! I would've liked to keep doing them on the MB but I still do it on the JP discord at least.

In April, fifty active users got banned due to using the message board mostly for socializing rather than actual JetPunk related stuff, which I assume that QM wanted. We even made a group with all the banned users and started doing something called "heartflooding". Basically, that meant that we all liked all the good-quality posts, since we couldn't comment.
