Message Board Recap - January 2026

Welcome to the 17th edition of "Message Board Recap"! Here's some (hopefully) interesting stats about the Message Board for the month of January 2026. This will be similar in format to MasterRocket's September 2024 blog (which I'm treating as the first edition), but not exactly the same.

- A total of 155 threads were made during the month of January 2026, for an average of 5 threads per day.

- The day with the most threads was January 25, with 12 threads.

- The days with the fewest threads were January 2, 7 and 24, with one thread each.

- A total of 69 unique users made at least one thread throughout the month, for an average of 2.25 threads per user.

- Throughout the month, three users made 10 threads each, one user (CommanderPro) made 8 threads, one user (Lindwyrm) made 7 threads, one user (akjlddkjslfsd) made 6 threads, and 63 made five or fewer threads each.

The top 6 thread creators made 51 threads in total, or 32.9% of all January threads.

- All threads in January 2026 were liked 920 times in total, for an average of 29.7 likes per day, 5.94 likes per thread, and 13.3 likes per unique user.

- The day with the most likes was January 1, with 60 likes.

- The day with the most likes per thread was January 4, with 42 likes and 4 threads, averaging 10.5 likes per thread.

(Non-exact figures are rounded to one decimal place)

The top 6 like-getters received 324 likes in total, or 35.3% of all January likes.

Now let's look at the top 10 most-liked Message Board threads (all thread titles are exactly as they appear):

Here are the top 10 users with the most total likes year-to-date (through January 31):

- All threads in January 2026 received 1,681 comments in total, for an average of 54.2 comments per day, 10.8 comments per thread, and 24.4 comments per unique user.

- The day with the most comments was January 20, with 136 comments.

- The day with the most comments per thread was January 23, with 115 comments and 3 threads, averaging 38.3 comments per thread.

The top 6 comment-getters received 592 comments in total, or 35.2% of all MB comments in January.

Now let's look at the top 10 most commented threads (all thread titles are exactly as they appear):

Here's some other fun facts and stats that I think might be interesting.

The correct way to spell "JetPunk" is to either capitalize both the J and the P, or to capitalize neither. Here's a breakdown of how people did in thread titles:

✅ Both the J and the P were capitalized on 11 occasions;

✅ Neither the J nor the P was capitalized on 1 occasion;

❌ On another 4 occasions, the J was capitalized, but not the P.

Overall, "JetPunk" was correctly spelled on 12 out of 16 occasions, for a score of 75/100.

Here's a look into whether thread titles ended with a punctuation mark, and which ones:

- 1 thread (0.6%) ended in a "⸮" (Unicode U+2E2E, reversed question mark);

- 43 threads (27.7%) ended in a question mark "?";

- 4 threads (2.6%) ended in a period / full stop ".";

- 5 threads (3.2%) ended in a right parenthesis ")";

- 11 threads (7.1%) ended in an exclamation mark "!";

- 1 thread (0.6%) ended in a hyphen "-";

- 90 threads (58.1%) did not end in a punctuation mark.

1. Length of Thread Titles

Have you noticed that some threads have much longer titles than others? Here's a look into the length of thread titles:

- All MB thread titles in January 2026 contained 4,755 characters in total (including spaces), for an average of 30.7 chars per title.

- Four threads are tied for the longest title:

1) "How to make a quiz where the same answers only count for one ---" by MeMeMe333;

2) "Notifications for friend/subbed quizzes only in chosen languages" by ant512;

3) "When will the capital for Equatorialguinea change in the Quizzes" by Marli5; and

4) "What are all the groups out there, which are open to new members" by Swatcat.

All these threads have 64 chars in their titles.

- Two threads are tied for the shortest title: "Guild" by azerifactory and "DIMBY" by DignifiedDoofus. Both threads only have 5 chars in their titles.

2. Capitalization of Thread Titles

Even though they're technically "titles", not everyone on the MB adheres to Title Case in their thread titles. Here's a breakdown:

- 154 threads (99.4%) adhered to Sentence case by starting with a capital letter. All but one again... why?

- Approximately 71 threads (45.8%) adhered to Title Case. Note that this is an "approximate" figure since there are slight variations in the exact rules of Title Case.
