Message Board Recap - November 2024

Welcome to the third edition of "Message Board Recap"! Here's some (hopefully) interesting stats about the Message Board for the month of November 2024. This will be similar in format to MasterRocket's September 2024 blog (which I'm treating as the first edition), but not exactly the same.

- A total of 72 threads were made during the month of November 2024, giving an average of 2.4 threads per day.

- The day with the most threads was November 7, with 8 threads.

- The days with the fewest threads were November 1, 10, 16, 18 and 22, with no threads.

- A total of 42 unique users made at least one thread throughout the month, giving an average of 1.71 threads per user.

- Throughout the month, one user (Jeremy2011) made 7 threads, three users made 4 threads each, five users made 3 threads each, another five made 2 threads each, and 28 made only one thread each.

The top 6 thread creators made 25 threads in total, or 34.7% of all November 2024 threads.

- The day with the most likes was November 8 (the day the Sudden Death format came out), with 47 likes.

- The day with the most likes per thread was also November 8, with 47 likes and 5 threads, averaging 9.4 likes per thread.

Why are so many people tied for 6th place today?

The top 6 like-getters received 92 likes in total, or one-half of all November 2024 likes.

Now let's look at the top 10 most-liked Message Board threads (all thread titles are exactly as they appear):

(Wasn't expecting this many ties, but I wanted to treat all threads equally and didn't want any tied thread to be left out for... being randomly put further down the list by Excel!)

- All threads in November 2024 received 239 comments in total, giving an average of 7.97 comments per day, 3.32 comments per thread, and 5.69 comments per unique user.

- The day with the most comments was November 7, with 31 comments.

- The day with the most comments per thread was November 4, with 11 comments and 2 threads, averaging 5.5 comments per thread.

The top 6 comment-getters received 112 comments in total, or 46.9% of all MB comments in November 2024.

Now let's look at the top 10 most commented threads (all thread titles are exactly as they appear):

Here's some other fun facts and stats that I think might be interesting.

The correct way to spell "JetPunk" is to either capitalize both the J and the P, or to capitalize neither. Here's a breakdown of how people did in thread titles (not thread content or comments though, that would be too much grind for me):

✅ Both the J and the P were capitalized on 2 occasions;

❌ On another 2 occasions, the J was capitalized, but not the P.

Apparently, some folks out there still didn't know how to spell the name of the very website they're on.

Here's a look into whether thread titles ended with a punctuation mark, and which ones:

- 24 threads (33.3%) ended in a question mark "?";

- 1 thread (1.4%) ended in a period / full stop ".";

- 3 threads (4.2%) ended in a right parenthesis ")";

- 8 threads (11.1%) ended in an exclamation mark "!";

- 36 threads (50%) did not end in a punctuation mark.

1. Length of Thread Titles

Have you noticed that some threads have much longer titles than others? Here's a look into the length of thread titles:

- All MB thread titles in November 2024 contained 2,125 characters in total (including spaces), for an average of 29.5 chars per title.

- The thread with the longest title was "Do you think the Ghana national football team will rebound fast?" by Junseong, with 64 chars in its title.

- The thread with the shortest title was "Kashmir?" by Dimby, with only 8 chars in its title.

2. Capitalization of Thread Titles

Even though they're technically "titles", not everyone on the MB adheres to Title Case in their thread titles. Here's a breakdown:

- 67 threads (93.1%) adhered to Sentence case by starting with a capital letter.

- Approximately 24 threads (33.3%) adhered to Title Case. Note that this is an "approximate" figure since there are slight variations in the exact rules of Title Case.
