Some Advice for Getting Your Quizzes Featured

+15

Introduction

This website has countless quiz-makers and user-created quizzes. Seeing the "featured quizzes" that are put onto the front page every day, you might be wondering: "Why can't my quizzes get featured? I put a lot of effort into them but they just seem to go unnoticed every time!" Well, if you feel that way, I'm here to tell you that you're far from alone. I have felt this way before, and many of us probably have at one point or another. If you're feeling this way right now and need some help, just read on. Here's some advice to improve your odds of getting a feature.

#1: Lower Your Expectations

Okay, if you're desperate for a feature, here's the first thing you should do: lower your expectations. You see, only a select few user-made quizzes make it onto the front page. In fact, that's why they're called "featured" quizzes - they're the best of the best.

My advice here is: don't expect a feature, or even a large number of noms/takes. Celebrate small progress (e.g. "This quiz got 50 takes! That's a new PB!"), and remember every take counts. This will calm you down and keep you motivated to continue making quizzes.

#2: Make Your Quizzes More Visible

If you want better odds of your quizzes getting featured, then it's crucial to get more people to notice them. After all, how can a quiz be featured if no one even sees it?

There are many different ways to achieve that, such as posting your quizzes on the Message Board, Reddit, or another popular social media platform. This way, your quizzes will generate more impressions and get slightly better odds for a feature (slightly, but every bit counts!). There is one caveat though: DO NOT post low-quality or spam quizzes. They paint a really bad picture of you and might even lead people to keep away from your future quizzes.

#3: Make Quizzes on Popular Topics

The next suggestion is to try to make quizzes on the more popular topics here on JetPunk. These include geography, history, etc. More people will be interested in these topics compared to, say, a quiz on some really niche pop culture (like a movie no one knows about or a video game most people have never heard of).

So, try to stick to popular topics as much as you can. If you aren't really a nerd in those topics, feel free to do some research! It helps with your chances of getting a feature, and you can also learn new things at the same time!

#4: Proofread Your Quizzes

This is arguably a smaller thing compared to the ones above, but still important: always proofread your quizzes. Minor mistakes can add up. Make sure your quiz has no spelling or grammatical errors, and the type-ins are all correct.

Also make sure your quiz title is capitalized correctly. We all know a saying that goes "don't judge a book by its cover", but if your cover isn't any good, people probably won't even bother looking at your quizzes, let alone taking them.

#5: Focus on Quality Rather Than Quantity

Last but not least, try to make higher-quality quizzes instead of just making more and more crappy quizzes. As is proved many times on this website, it often takes just one especially innovative and original idea for a quiz to get featured. If you finish making your quizzes in just a few minutes and without too much effort, then they probably won't garner much attention from the public or the Quizmaster.

Final Thoughts

I think that's all I have to say here. Again, don't be in a hurry to try to get a feature. Feature takes time, effort and luck. Only a very small minority of quizzes get featured. Instead of getting anxious or frustrated, just stay motivated, keep making high-quality quizzes, and don't give up. Your day will come.

Nice blog.

Another place to share your quizzes is the JetPunk Discord, though make sure you've followed the advice in this blog first.

Another tip I'd add is to make your quizzes short and not too hard. Around 15-24 answers for a text quiz is pretty standard, or even fewer depending on the quiz. Long quizzes with tons of answers don't automatically equal quality, even if they took a lot of work.

For most quizzes you want people to have a few minutes of fun that has a bit of a challenge but doesn't feel annoying. If the average score is under 60% it's unlikely to get featured. I'd aim for at least 70%. Lots of featured quizzes are at 90%.

Bear in mind that this doesn't count for Sudden Death quizzes which have lower % because people wipe out. Actually, if you can find a Sudden Death topic that hasn't been done and isn't too obscure, that's a good kind of quiz to try. They are quick and fun to play by their nature so it's mostly a case of finding a good topic.

These are good points, adfghkj(etc). I sadly have an enormous amount of crappy low effort copy quizzes on this account, which definitely aren't getting those coveted orange stars any time soon.

So they did, but those weren't some of the crappy low-effort ones, they were the crappy mid-effort ones

Of course, I agree with these points. However some seem more like common sense, butt #1 is definitely a great point.

I remember I used to thing 'man, this is featurable stuff' on some very poor quizzes and I encourage others to do the same :)

I would argue that it's important to make quizzes you truly want to make, rather than "going with the flow" so to speak.

It's easier to make quizzes you are actually interested in making rather than researching for an hour just to make a quiz you really don't care about all that much. Putting time and effort into your own love will provide a better environment here for you on the site, and make you want to keep making quizzes.

Of course, making quizzes on unique topics isn't bad, in fact it's great. But you shouldn't be dedicating your time here to make quizzes just for takes and Features. Your time here should be you contributing your ideas to the site. Your ideas may not be noticed right away, but that doesn't mean give up or leave your ideas behind. As you said, advertise your ideas somewhere, like the Message Board, Discord, etc. More people might catch on.

I do like this blog, especially the "Quality over Quantity" part. Very important. I'll add this blog to my Useful Links blog!

Agree. Most of your quizzes will not get featured, so you might as well have a blast making them.

My top tip for getting your quizzes featured is change your motivation. Don't make quizzes with the goal of getting the quiz featured on your mind. Make quizzes you actually want to make, truly original concepts on topics you enjoy are the best way to enjoy making quizzes.
