June '24 CQMB - Superman, Agatha, Supergirl, & More

This month, Ben Affleck’s Daredevil movie from 2003 landed on Disney+. This isn’t any major news, although I wonder if this was done in anticipation for the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine. There has been rumors that Affleck’s Daredevil will make an appearance in the movie, so we’ll see. Deadpool & Wolverine will be in theaters July 26.

Earlier this month we got this first look picture for the DCU’s Superman. And this is pretty exciting!! I’m not quite sure what the background is supposed to represent (if anything), but this is getting me excited to see what James Gunn’s DCU has to offer. The suit looks great, and I’m sure there’s a lot more to this movie that’s bound to excite. Superman will be in theaters July 11, 2025.

Marvel Studios gave us an important update at the Upfront Presentation regarding their television department. Recently, Marvel Studios created a new division titled Marvel Animation, which is designated for projects like X-Men ‘97, Eyes of Wakanda, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, etc. And this past month they announced a new division titled Marvel Television. This division will now be the ones releasing the MCU shows. They also mentioned that the Marvel shows will no longer be required viewing in order to understand movies. Also at this presentation, they announced the official release date for the Agatha show. This show has gone through many titles within the last several years. These titles include- Agatha: House of Harkness, Agatha: Coven of Chaos, Agatha: Darkhold Diaries, Agatha: The Lying Witch with Great Wardrobe, and now finally, Agatha All Along. It turns out the excessive retitling of the movie was all part of the marketing. Agatha All Along is set to stream on Disney+ from September 18 to November 6. They also announced the Daredevil: Born Again show will be streaming in March 2025. Ironheart will also stream next year.

I didn’t really know much about this show to begin with, but I think it was meant to be a part of the SSU. And it looks like it’s not happening anymore. Womp womp. However, there is a Spider-Man Noir series in production starting Nicolas Cage as the lead, so that’s cool. The release date for that show is unknown.

We have received two big pieces of news in regards to the upcoming Supergirl film in the DCU. First of all, the release date has been announced for June 26, 2026. Second, the director is set to be Craig Gillespie. It’s super exciting seeing this newly formed DCU come together, and it’s going to be real soon that we see it come to life in the movie theater.

It was recently reported by James Gunn that Frank Grillo (who will be playing Rick Flag Sr. in Creature Commandos) will be joining the cast of Peacemaker: Season 2, as his character will be seeking revenge for what happened in The Suicide Squad (2021). This has me confused. What is canon? I thought it would mostly be a clean split. I figured if they were doing Peacemaker: Season 2 at all it would be a reboot of the franchise. I'm not sure how to feel about this news, what do you guys think?
