Should you really make that blog?

The Blog Community is Facing Tough Times

Unfortunately, after the miraculous blog update by Stewart, users have been using the lack of effort required to create spam blogs. While they might not think they are spam because they are not being quote-on-quote "spammed", they are still pointless blogs that flood the Recent User Blog section.

Don't get me wrong. The blogging update has introduced some miraculous bloggers to the community like @HighPriest57, @michaelngwa, @Beckette, and many others. It has allowed for new series to be made like The Blog Games, The Rainforest, etc. Images are easier to input, and dividers are easier to style.

My message is not to hate on the blogging update. My message is not to say that the new users who have been spamming blogs (under my personal definition above) should quit JetPunk. No, I wish to improve the blog section as a whole by having these users transform themselves.

What I have been up to with Blogging Lately

Over the course of the past few weeks, I have been giving decent criticism to new or spamming bloggers, and trying my best to also give praise (though sometimes I fail). Unfortunately, these users have decided to block me, and now I cannot give them any more help. Yes, you read correctly--help. If you don't understand why, than I recommend that you learn to take criticism here.

Currently, my reputation is not amazing. The Blog Games mentioned above has been a wonderful series that I have constantly falsely criticized with no proof, and out of overreacting/low self-control. But then something clicked in my head. And if the comment chain does not get deleted, you will be able to see for yourself.

@Ethaboo444 responded in the most selfless and chilled way I have ever seen. He gives reasonable proof, does not get mad at me, and addresses just about everything I say in a flawless fashion. So you bloggers who have responded negatively to my criticism--if you truly believe I am out of line, then use Ethaboo as an example. If along the way you can't find any evidence against it or reason for why what I said was wrong, then admit to yourself that you are. Make the changes and be done with it.

The response to my criticism that I especially don't want is for you to just delete your blog. I am trying to fix it whether kindly or not, and I am not a perfect person to always keep a temper. I feel horrible if you just take it down after I criticize it.

Steps that you Should Take to See if the Blog Should be Made

1. Is it self centered? Is it a blog that says thank you for getting a couple of takes on a quiz? Milestone blogs are fine, but should be celebrated in these increments at most:

1,000 or 2,000 Takes

5,000 Takes

10,000 Takes

50,000 Takes

100,000 Takes

250,000 Takes

500,000 Takes

1,000,000 Takes

I prefer milestone blogs that list people who have helped them along the way, why they recognize them, and what their journey on JetPunk has been.

2. How many characters? While the required amount of characters for a blog is 500, please use at least 1,000. It is an amount easy to reach, and if the blog is really worth sharing, should come naturally. And no, don't spam emojis, pictures, letters, or other things to increase your character amount. And no random bolding, underlining, italicizing, or other modifiers. Use these sparingly to highlight the main points of your blog.

3. How much time did it take? An hour or two? Probably not, unless it is an urgent announcement. A day? Maybe, but see how you can improve your blog. A couple of days? Most likely, just make sure the subject is appealing and makes sense. A week or more? 99.5% yes.

4. Why are you making it? To showcase the stories you love to make? To inform the public? To attract traffic outside of JetPunk without spamming? These three and much more are all fine.

In Conclusion...

This blog took only about an hour to make. However, I felt while not necessarily urgent, I should probably submit it as soon as possible. Call me hypocritical if you'd like. I'm open to suggestions.

But please, just please. Do not just ignore this or miss the main point.

I think it's fine to make blogs like this speaking out against poor blogging practices, but I would MUCH rather have blogs to ignore than have a bunch of discouraged bloggers because of massive over criticism.

Ask yourself before telling someone how horrendous their blog is whether they would prefer to have blogs that are sub-par or whether they would prefer to be shamed their blogging and either

a. Stop blogging, or

b. Make slightly better blogs but always feel like they are horrible bloggers.

I'd estimate 80% of first time bloggers would not like someone to bombard them with criticism. Does it really effect you whether or not people make low-quality blogs? No, it makes absolutely no difference except that you spend maybe twenty seconds figuring out that the blog is low quality, and then you can move on with your life. Sorry if I sound really harsh. I just abhor people who only have negative things to say.

I'll see what other people say before making any decisions. But good point.

Edit: I was bombarded with both criticism and kindness when I first started blogging. However, I was eventually able to deal with the criticism at a level that I started to make higher quality blogs and delete my old ones. They might still be trash, who knows, but that isn't the point. The point is that I only give criticism on low quality blogs where praise has already been given, or I give it out myself. And maybe you haven't seen some of my other comments, but on some quizzes/blogs I have given multiple 1,000 character comments on just praise. So no, I wouldn't say I am only being negative, but I also recognize why it would look that way. If there is any way to improve then I thank the help to come.

Yes, I partially agree with HinesBrothers that we should just ignore spam. Giving criticism to spam bloggers will only give them more attention and cause them to make more spam blogs. If we simply just ignore and report them without commenting, they may start to make higher quality blogs. Quoting from Stewart: "If they've blocked you it's probably for the best, spam bloggers don't deserve your attention".

So I would say to follow these 3 simple steps (I should as well): Report, ignore, and move on!

I don't want people to hate me more, but that's exactly what happened with this guy's poor blog

. He was getting bombarded by like 20 comments, and that was his first BLOG. I mean like, people, don't talk about deleting accounts and the point of life on the blog.

Thanks for the information, Clutch. I'm sure other people will get the point because I certainly did. Also, I am quite close to 2,000 takes. Can I make a blog celebrating this when I reach the milestone?

Well....hmmm. You had a 1,000 takes blog, but that was a couple of months ago....wait until you are actually at the number before making the blog, but I recommend going through your account and cleaning out quizzes that are low quality, too personalized or spam. Every time I reach a milestone I always have plans to go through my quizzes. If you spent a very long time on a quiz that ended up as low quality then consider making it private instead of deleting it. I'm not saying you have these quizzes necessarily, but I would just check to see because usually 1,000 takes or 2,000 takes should be celebrated.

Good point. Also, another thing to be considered is don't plagiarize the content of any website, giving Ctrl+A, Ctrl+C, and Ctrl+V in JetPunk. Plagiarism is illegal, and it will bring problems to Quizmaster and Stewart. I am planning a blog about Minas Gerais. I don't know what came over me, that I started copying excerpts from Wikipedia, and translating on Translate. I stopped, and started to think: The blog is getting long and ridiculously copied from the Internet. Better to stop, and elaborate more, also making it not to be giant, because giant blogs are also annoying and confusing.

Even "good bloggers" make mistakes, including me. Sitting, crying, and deleting the blog or account is an act of immaturity. Criticism is important to learn what you must do, and not to sin again.

Although I don't believe in deleting blogs except it is clearly spam, I would just make it private and/or fix it up to make it better, especially if it is still a good idea. And no, I'm not deleting the comment chain lol.

Just because something can be improved doesn't mean it's spam. A large problem is that some users don't want to listen to criticism. The more they don't want to listen, the more criticism they receive. And the cycle repeats until they either rage quit or get hidden/banned. It's happened many times and it's very tiring. We can't force people to listen but if they did earlier on it would be easier on everybody.

You should probably make an Blog on "HOW TO MAKE CRITICISM". Yes, how to MAKE criticism.

Including best parts. Being rude isn't the ideal option, you'll just end up hurting someone, or start an endless fight on the comment section...
