Stone Age

Stone Tools: Between 3 and 2 million years ago, early hominids invented basic stone tools, most tools were sharpened flints for butchering meat, these were known as Oldowan tools. These tools were especially revolutionary, because firstly, stones are almost everywhere, secondly they are easy to transport and sharpen, and lastly, they are less brittle than other tools made of bone.

Fire: Between 1 and 2 million years ago, hominids invented fire, or not really invented. Members of the homo family experienced fire for hundreds of thousands of years, often from lightning strikes. Fire was first actually controlled between 1 and 2 million years ago. Fire was and still is such a game changer, because, firstly, fire made food safer, tastier and often, more nutritious, secondly, fire scared wild animals from human camps, lastly, fire brought people together, which could spread even more technological marvels.

Animal Domestication: Over 20,000 years ago, Humans started to domesticate animal, these were first dogs, but soon pigs, sheep, cows, horses and goats would be domesticated. Animals started to be used for important, but very different reasons. Large animals like cows or horses could be used to pull carts or heavy loads. Cows could be used for milk, as well as goats. Pigs could be used for meat, and sheep could be used for their wool. Over time, without humans noticing, animals started to change genetically. Cows became tamer and dogs became more loyal.
