The Collab Lab Setup (#1?)

Wanna Collab on a Quiz?

I love the interview blogs that baptistegorce does, especially since it fosters a connection between JetPunk users. I'm naturally more curious about quiz-making than anything else, though. I always thought it'd be really cool to make a quiz with another user and document the conversations and interactions we have as we plan and make the quiz. Then, when the quiz is released, I would turn the process of making the quiz into a blog. Well, I think this might be a good time to see if this idea has legs!

I think we all develop unique skillsets that give our quizzes a personality. We lean into our strengths. I have leaned into scripting, including the "Drag the Pin" quizzes and jigsaw puzzles. But with two people, there are more strengths, more ideas, and maybe even cooler quizzes! Maybe you have more artistic flair than I do. Maybe you have sick SVG mapping skills. In any case, you have different tools to bring to the table than I do.

Anyway, here's the pitch. Well, it's really you doing the pitch, I suppose. If you want to make a collaborative quiz with me, I'd like to document the process and release it as a blog. You can fill out the attached survey by, let's arbitrarily say Monday, September 15, and I'll pick the idea that I feel is the best fit for a blog.

Here are some things to consider before applying:

-take your time and brainstorm what could be made between your and my skills

-is your idea feasible—would it take a reasonable amount of time?

-what about your skillset is different from mine, and how could they fit well together?

-do you want to be featured in a follow-up blog?

-is the idea original and not just a rehash of something already done?

-are you good at working with others, their limitations, and the give and take of ideas?

Even a brainstorming session could go well in a blog, but I do want to get an idea of what you'd ideally like to make if we worked on a project together.

I'm thinking of recreating the Pips game from NYT, while not really original I think it would be pretty cool.

A puzzle game could be cool. I think something similar to that could be baked up potentially. But I won't brainstorm too much on the page. Although who knows if I'll get more submissions. :)

Just sent in mine. Would definitely be interested provided we could come up with a worthwhile concept

Would asking for help on an SVG, count? If not that's fine

It depends, really. If it’s just a bit of help I often check the message board and try to help anyone out who asks. If it’s something major, maybe it’s more of a collab.

I'd love to collab with you on a quiz! That being said, I am a rather ordinary quizmaker with no special talents so idk if I'm really your best choice, haha.

I'll give it a bit of thought, and come back for the application. This sounds like a fun idea for a blog anyways

My major strength is probably eating ice cream. Combined with your original ideas and amazing scripting skills I reckon that in a couple of weeks we could make an excellent quiz AND eat a sizeable amount of ice cream.

Actually, I'll get started on my side of things right now. Just give me a shout when the quiz part is done.

I was actually thinking of a whole series of iced cream based quizzes! But every time I go to start them, I just end up eating a bunch of iced cream.

Love the idea. An increase in collaboration is great! I feel like it’s what JetPunk is all about

I've only made a few quizzes, and though I'm not a developer per se, I've worked with developers since I started with IBM im the late 70s & managed pretty large development teams, 80+. I can help with tech documentation, workflows, testing. What most irks me about JP is the lack of guidelines such as a naming taxonomy, curated tags, content management, basically a librarian approach. I don't know how many quizzes are in the DB, but if a taxonomy was developed, then all the quizzes could be grouped/tagged.

Hi Dimby!

I have an idea for a quiz I want to collaborate on. Really it's just me needing help with coding, and I know you're one of the best at it. I'll fill out the form, but I don't need a special blog for this idea. I just want to make it and get it out, with your help of course.
