My Favourite Games

A History and a List

I have been playing video games since at least 2013. I started with some crummy mobile games, until I first picked Minecraft PE. That was first introduction to true games. About a year later, my aunt and uncle gave me and my brother a xbox 360. Before that I had played the Wii, but had mainly played Mario Kart. The xbox was my first true console, and I would play Minecraft on it for hours. to this day, the 360 remains my favourite console despite its age. Around2015/2016, the same aunt and uncle gave us a xbox 1. I was immediately in love with Borderlands 2, despite me not being allowed to play it. On my 13th birthday I played Skyrim for the first time, and was terrible at it. I didn’t have much time, nay, any time, to improve due to my mother finding out and making me return it to the library. To this day she still tries to control what I can and cannot play. I got for Christmas a few years ago, though. Terraria. Probably my favourite game of all time. I got it on a whim a few years ago, and now have over 300 hours on it. I finally beat it a few weeks ago, and have set some lofty goals for myself.

Now for the titular topic of this blog: my favourite games. It’s a simple list, really, with games that I have dozens, if not hundreds of hours on. The basic list, in some order, is this:

1. Terraria. The sheer number of ways to play has me hooked, but the rare repetitiveness has often left with burnout. The most recent time was when I beat the game a few weeks ago which has led me to start playing RDR1 again, and trying Dark Souls.

2. Minecraft. One of the first big games I played, it has held my love through the years. Through thick and thin, I have played it. Recently I’ve started playing on a server with friends, and that has been a blast.

3. Skyrim. The sheer massiveness of this game has infatuated me with it. I’m no expert on the lore, but I have immersed myself in it many a time, and am decent in my knowledge of it. This is the only Elder Scrolls game I’ve played so far, but I do want to play Oblivion and perhaps Morrowind. The release of Oblivion Remastered is also a draw for me. Alas, my main console is a Nintendo Switch, so I don’t have access to those games.

4. Red Dead Redemption. I picked this up a few months ago, and loved the tragic story of John Marston ever since. I do have some gripes with it, such as my inability to change the controls, but the greatness of the game outweighs them. Can’t wait to be able to play RDR2.

5. Batman: Arkham City. First played this a few years ago on my 360, and was immediately in love with the ability to grapple through the world. I have maybe three dozen hours in the game, and have beaten the story. The simple joy I find in the grappling leads to its placement on this list. Alas, Arkham Knight could gain this affection despite its even larger world.

6. Borderlands 2. The first Borderlands game I played, BL2 was love at first sight. Despite my repeated dying, I truly enjoy the game. I may suck, but the humour of the game keeps me going. Also the guns are cool.

Honourable  Mentions:

1. Stardew Valley. This not very simple farming game is something I periodically sink some time into, but its repetitiveness keeps it from being higher on the list.

2. Totally Accurate Battle Simulator. This goofy sandbox had always drawn my attention, but I was unable to play it until I finally bought it off the estore a few months ago. The joy of controlling the little men is always fun.

3. Age of History 2. This game introduced me to the grand strategy genre, and I have always enjoyed it, despite its many issues.

4. Mindustry. A factory game similar to Factorio, this game got me hooked for a while.

Games that Might Make this List:

1. The Fallout Games (3, New Vegas, and 4). These games have always drawn my attention, but my being stuck on Switch has prevented me from playing them. The whole Fallout series has infatuated me, but has been a never available option. I’ll probably play 5 when it comes out.

2. RDR2. I really enjoy the first game, so the sequel should be no difference. The improvements on RDR1 also draw me towards it. I suspect once RDR3 comes out, it will also make this list.

3. People Playground. A fun looking game. Judge me all you want.

4. The Elder Scrolls Series (Morrowind, Oblivion (both of them), and potentially Daggerfall). I loved Skyrim and want an Elder Scrolls game I haven’t played before. Alas, none of the are on the Switch. I’ll definitely play VI when it comes out.

That is my gaming history and the list of my favourite games, as well as a few others. I hope you enjoyed my rambling. Until next time, have a good time. Farewell for now.

It shaped me as a person to a degree, I’m a social recluse now. Thanks gaming!
