My Favourite Movies

An Apology and Yet Another List

I know, I know, these are getting repetitive. It’ll all be over soon. I only have one more blog planned after this one, about my favourite graphic novels and manga. But that isn’t this blog, this blog is about movies. So without further ado, I’ll start rambling.

My history of movie watching isn’t very interesting. Lots of people watch movies, and people just watch them. Most people, including me, don’t get obsessed with watching movies. Thus I don’t have some long winded rant about my history of movie watching. If that is why you read my blogs, I’m sorry. Believe me, they’ll be back in future blogs, but not this one.

I suppose that just leads us to my list of favourite movies. Without further ado, here is my list of favourite movies.

The basic order is this:

1. Revenge of the Sith. I know this is a hot take, but this movie is my favourite Star Wars movie. I love the Clone Wars, and the plot is pretty good. The only thing I dislike is how much they changed Grievous from the ‘03 to ‘05 animated series. He was terrifying there. But this isn’t a rant about the things I dislike about Star Wars. That will be a later blog.

2. LOTR Trilogy. I love all the movies, but again, Two Towers is my favourite. The March of the Ents, the Battle of Helms Deep, they just make such an excellent movie. The rest of the trilogy is great as well, but Two Towers takes the cake.

3. Jurassic Park. Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of the book by Michael Crichton is fabulous. I am okay with the changes they made, as they were necessary to maintain a PG-13 rating, and there were of course budgetary and technical restraints. I would love to see a true adaptation, but the first film will do quite well for now. On another note, I actually prefer JPIII to the first movie, but that is a really hot take so I won’t go to much into that. I simply like the inclusion of Spinosauras Aegypticus.

4. Jaws. This classic from Spielberg is always great, but like Jurassic Park, my favourite from the series is actually the third movie, Jaws 3D. Sure the CGI sucks, and the writing isn’t that great, but I love the premise.

Honourable Mentions:

•Titanic. I wasn’t a fan of the romance part, especially because Rose essentially kills Jack. However, I’m a big Titanic buff so the movie was overall great.

•American Psycho. Quite a good slasher movie.

•Silence of the Lambs. Both it and its sequel, Hannibal, were excellent movies. I especially like the second movie, as by then you know what Lecter is capable of. Truly terrifying. Anthony Hopkins shines in all of his scenes.

•Starship Troopers. This spoof of facism is a gory fun fest. I loved it all the way through, but was saddened by Rasczack’s death. It makes sense why they did it, but he was my favourite character.

•South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut. I love the political commentary it provides on censorship, and it’s of course South Park. I loved it all the use of Barbara Streisand as a curse word.

Again, I am sorry for not having a rant, but after the length of the last blog I wanted to give you folks a shorter one. Movies are great, and are usually good. Until next time, have a good time. Farewell for now.

Although your picks aren't in my favourites list, they are excellent movies.

My personal favourites, and I can watch these over and over, are..

1. Shawshank Redemption (prison drama - 1994)

2. Firefox (Cold War drama about a plane theft - 1982)

3. The Hunt for Red October (Cold War submarine - 1990)

4. The Italian Job (crime caper - 1969)

5. The Book Thief (WW2 drama - 2013)

There are many more films I will watch more than once, but too many to list here.

I completely forgot about Red October and Shawshank, I love both of those movies (and the books).

I recommend watching Tarantino movies (especially pulp fiction), Scorsese movies (Taxi driver, goodfellas), Oldboy, the Dollar Trilogy and if I remember others I'll edit the comment.

I do wish to watch the Dollar trilogy, along with pulp fiction. Haven't gotten around to watching them yet, though.
