Football: What makes it so enjoyable?

+4

Prologue

Football, or soccer as some Americans call it for some reason, is said to be the king of sports. Why is that, though? Why is seeing 22 men kick a ball so enjoyable?

Accessibility

Football, at least in terms of accessibility used to be, and still is, one of the simplest sports to replicate and play everywhere. It doesn't need a hoop or any special equipment to play with your friends. Just some boots, a ball and an empty space(e.g. a park, a parking lot, simply anything). Oh you also need to create some sort of posts by either trashcans or your own handbags. That simple, isn't it?

As for watching, it is also very easy to go to your local team's home match biweekly or go to some away days, especially ones that are close. Unfortunately, during the last few years tickets have got more expensive, especially in higher leagues...

Goaaaaal

In most sports there is a form of point systems, to keep track of the scorelone. But in football it's the well-known goal, which unlike in most sports, we don't see often in the game, if we even do and it's not a goalless draw.

Anyway, I feel like seeing your team score a goal, especially late in the game is the best feeling. It literally gives an adrenaline rush and makes you scream and celebrate like there's no tomorrow. In my humble opinion, no other sport can replicate that, with the closest being basketball last second 3 points, but still!

Socializing

Of course, you might also get allured by the beautiful game thanks to a friend, or many friends who watch the sport. Generally, when people tend to follow the habits of their friends, which isn't always good, but in the case of watching or playing a sport, why not?

Also, some people see the sidelines as an area to socialise with many of their friends or even meet new people altogether, which makes everything even more fun!

Conclusion

You might not have agreed with all of my opinions on this blog, but that's how I feel about the sport of football and I guess many people feel the same.

Sadly, though, in many countries, football matches have been associated with moments of violence between fans of opposing sides and that definitely discourages people from going to games! Shame isn't it? Stop Violence!

Anyway, that was all! I hope you have a nice day and go to your team's next game! Or better yet, go out and play football with your friends to calm down from the daily stress!

Good blog! Another reason why I like football (to play) is because it actually give everyone the same chance (representation) to play the game and prove themselves(talking about college team) unlike cricket or other games where only a bowler and batsman play the game only.

To be fair, I don't know a lot about cricket, but yes, football is a sport where everyone generally has an equal chance of playing. Oh and I forgot to say that football is a team sport, which many people prefer over individual sports

The reason why soccer is so enjoyable is because it isn't a sizist sport (*ahem* BASKETBALL) so all heights have a great chance to be a great player.

That is true. Height doesn't play that much of a role. Most great number 10's had small bodies

Agreed with ItzIngenious, but again, this is another great Blog from you Gade. Very nice! I think American Football is also easy to play with friends, as you practically need the same things; goalposts, open space, and friends.

Very nice blog + great topic! I think the main reason is that it is a team sport.

I am feeling football always if I see a field. I play it, I watch it, and I am a referee!

Oh you're a referee? That's nice!

But I have a question. I am guessing you referee in Sunday leagues. You definitely have got a lot of verbal abuse from fans right? How do you feel about it? Are you immune to it?
