Prologue
A while ago, Neodymium commented on a blog of mine saying in English with the Greek alphabet, that he could read Greek!
While it wasn't thaaat bad, it wasn't perfect either, which is obviously understandable, when thinking that Greek is not a Latin language.
So with that in mind, I decided to become your Greek teacher and start simple by giving you the sounds of letters from Greek to English to study!
Letters
We're gonna start simple with the Greek alphabet and it's corresponding English names or sounds:
Aα - A
Bβ - V
Γγ - W, as in way
Δδ - Th, as in the
Εε - Ε
Ζζ - Ζ
Ηη - I
Θθ - Th, as in teeth
Ιι - Ι
Κκ - Κ
Λλ - L
Μμ - Μ
Νν - Ν
Ξξ - X
Οο - Ο
Ππ - P
Ρρ - R
Σσς - S
Tτ - Τ
Υυ - I
Φφ - F
Χχ - Ch
Ψψ - Ps
Ώω - O
Diagraphs
Greek also has some diagraphs which makes different sounds from the letters:
ΑΙ - E
ΑΥ - AV or AF depending on the content
ΓΚ / ΓΓ - G
ΟΥ - U
ΜΠ - B
ΝΤ - D
ΤΣ - TS
ΤΖ - DZ
And now with the Ϊ and Ϋ
ΕΪ/ΕΫ - EI
ΑΪ/ΑΫ - ΑΙ
ΟΪ/ΟΫ - ΟΙ
I would also like to address diagraphs and trigraphs of the English language when translated to Greek(I may have missed some):
EA/ΕΕ/ΙΕ - Ι
WH - Γ
AW - Ο
AY/ΑΙ/EIGH - ΕΪ
OY - ΟΪ
OW/OU - ΑΟΥ
OO/OUGH - ΟΥ
ΟΑ - ΟΟΥ
DGE - ΤΖ
IGH - ΑΪ
TCH/CH - ΤΣ
AUGH - ΑΦ
PH - Φ
TH - Θ/Δ
Conclusion
Greek is hard! That's all I gotta say!
Anyway, was the "lesson" at least understandable? And tell me if you want more lingual stuff like it!
Εις το επανιδείν!

Δεν μπορώ να μιλήσω ελληνικά... Ελλάδα!
Nice blog! How would you write “youtube” in greek?

It doesn't make sense but that's because youtube sounds like yioutiub, doesn't it?
Ο μπαμπάς ο παχύς έφαγε παχιά φακή! Say that fast
