Geography Snap : Soon, a new Milestone...

On August, 20th 2024, at around 5 PM in Ngerulmud time, the total number of takes across all the quizzes on JetPunk hit the 10-digit milestone of 1 billion. This may have been quietly celebrated, but not much has been done around it. So it's not too much of a stretch to say that the upcoming Geography Snap milestone will be even less celebrated, and in fact even less known about.

Geography Snap has been created in late October 2020, and a live counter of all total matched tiles has been brought up afterwards (no idea when exactly, sorry). Since then, it has continued growing, and in less than a few hours as I am writing this, it will hit 49 million. That is a great number, isn't it ? Now, I had planned to show a chart of the evolution of the total number of matched tiles through out the last 2-ish years, but there are two problems :

1. I do not have enough data
2. I have enough data

I didn't and, in fact, couldn't, save the total number of matched tiles each day, so I had to rely on some screenshots and videos I could find, but those were enough to prove that the evolution of the count is really constant, the line on the chart being as straight as the Saskatchewan/Montana border. So, when will the 50 million tiles milestone be hit ?

Well, it takes roughly 40 days for the total count to hit a new million tiles milestone. It has rarely been faster or slower in the last 2 years. So, the 50 million milestone should be hit in about 40 days, too. I would say that October, 9th could be a good estimation then. Anyway, it should happen before the 4^th anniversary of the minigame, which is on October, 25th 2024, and WAY before the Snap update 2^nd anniversary, on November, 21^st, 2024.

But, this could be faster ! What if some players gathered together and played Geography Snap a lot during the next weeks to make the counter go up faster, and the milestone reached faster. What if the 50 million tiles benchmark was actually hit before October ?

October 1^st edit : Well, it seems like we didn't quite make it. At the end, we got to around 49,800,000 nonetheless, which is pretty good consdering that we did this during September ! I'd like to thank every people who played Geography Snap this month, all of you were helpful at any scale !

October 10^th edit : As it turns out, the 50,000,000 milestone was hit today.
