JetPunk 2024 Blog Awards - Nominations

+16

UPDATE: Nominations are now closed.

Intro

There are many blogs that exist on JetPunk. Alot of them are really good! The blogs released in 2024 are no exception. In fact, I’d go so far as to say that 2024 was one of the best years for JetPunk blogs in terms of quality. So many great blogs were published this year, and I think it’s only right that we honour them in some way. And what better way to honour everyone’s hard work and passion than by forcing them to compete and find the one true best blog!

So, I had an idea. An idea for a three part blog meant to celebrate the best blogs of the year. The first part (AKA the blog you're reading right now) is to have the blogging community nominate their favourite blogs (and blogmakers) across 5 different categories. The second part will have them vote on the best blogs (and blogmakers) across each category from a selection based on the results of the nominations. The final part will be the announcement of which blogs (and blogmakers) received the most votes, and earn the title 'Blog of the Year'. Or whatever.

That's the general gist of the idea. I'll explain the specifics of each part in their respective blogs, but hopefully this should give you an overview of what I plan to do here. Hopefully by the end of this we can really see the best of the blogging community!

OK: Nominations. In this part, you are able to freely nominate 1 to 10 blogs across 5 different categories - Story, Informational, Creative, Author, and Best Overall Blogs - alongside an optional explanation of why you chose to nominate it. The blogs allowed to be nominated are every blog posted to JetPunk from January 1st, 2024, to December 31st, 2024, that haven't been deleted or privated.

Below you will see the names and descriptions of each of the categories. For each category there will be a link to a Google Form where you will nominate the blogs. At the bottom of the page there will also be a Google Sheet which contains information on every blog released this year.

An example of a filled-in nomination.

The purpose of this blog is to help inform my selection of candidates for voting. Originally I was just going to pick them myself and have this be a two-part blog, but I felt weird about being the sole person deciding the candidates for best blogs of the year. I wanted to at least give the option for people to submit their favourite blogs for consideration. While all the candidates will still be handpicked by me, having a list of blogs other members of the community enjoy will be a great help.

Remember to vote responsibly! While you can nominate up to ten blogs for each category, keep in mind that you don't actually have to nominate ten blogs. If there are only three blogs you think are deserving of a nomination, then just end the ballot there. I also ask that you try not to nominate yourself. I'm not going to strictly enforce this, but it is frowned upon. As a rule of thumb, for every 1 self-nomination you cast you should have at least 2-3 nominations for other people (although 0 self-nominations would be ideal).

So without any further ado, here are the categories:

Categories

Best Story Blog

Basically what it says on the tin. The best blogs that tell a story: fictional, personal, or otherwise. A good blog in this category would require the same qualities of a good story.

Note that nominations for this category don’t necessarily have to be blogs under the ‘Story’ tag. They can be under any tag, as long as you think it tells a good story.

Best Informational Blog

An informational blog is a blog that takes a topic and discusses facts on it. Its main purpose is to inform the reader, so a good blog in this category would be well-researched and factual.

Like with the Story category, nominations in this category do not need to be blogs under the ‘Informational’ tag.

Beat Creative Blog

Sometimes blogs don’t fit neatly into either one of the previous categories. This category is meant to recognize blogs that break the mould and go in a brand new direction (or are just plain weird).

Best Author

Behind every blog - good, bad, or mediocre - is a real-life person typing out every word. This category recognizes users based on the contributions they made to the RUB during the year of 2024.

Best Overall Blog

Should be pretty straightforward. This category isn’t judging blogs based on one particular quality, but rather the quality of the blog as a whole. Any blog can be nominated for this category (except for the ones that can’t be nominated for any category, obviously), so this is your chance to let your favourite blogs shine!

Outro

As mentioned earlier, I created a Google Sheet containing information about every blog released on JetPunk in 2024. It includes the blog name, the URL, the date it was published and the author. Hopefully this should make it easier to find blogs from throughout the year that you enjoyed. Alternatively, you could also use it to read new blogs. How you choose to use the sheet is entirely up to you.

You may notice a few oddities with the sheet, such as only some blogs having like counts or nearly half the blogs being highlighted. That's because I'm still in the process of reading all the blogs, and that information is meant to keep track of which ones I still need to read. You can just ignore it.

You may also be wondering about the deadline for nominations. I'm not sure yet about the exact deadline, however it will either be on February 1st, 2025 (two weeks from the day I post this blog) OR when I finalize the candidates for voting, whichever happens later. Most likely that will be the latter scenario, so you should have a good amount of time to nominate the blogs. Assuming that I take longer than two weeks to finalize the list of candidates then I will most likely make some sort of announcement when I'm closing the nominations.

EDIT January 31st: Yeah I'm 100% extending the deadline for nominations. Despite reading pretty consistently for the past week or so I'm only a little over halfway through the blogs. I'm currently expecting to take roughly two more weeks until I'm finished reading, at which point I'll close the nominations.

EDIT February 15th: I finished reading all the blogs last night, which means my prediction of two weeks was surprisingly accurate. I'm going to close the nomination forms in two days on February 17th, as I'd like to begin moving on to the voting phase as soon as possible. So if you haven't voted yet - what are you waiting for? GO VOTE!

EDIT February 17th: Aaaaaand nominations are now officially closed! Thank you to everyone who submitted their nominations, it's been a big help already. Voting should be opening shortly. I hope you're as excited as I am!

One last thing to keep in mind is that you're able to edit your responses even after you've submitted, so don't feel like you have to hold off on submitting until you're certain that your list is 100% accurate.

That should be everything. If you have any questions about anything then please ask me in the comments section below. I don't expect alot of people to nominate blogs, and I especially don't expect someone to nominate 10 for most categories, but any amount of additional information is a great help for me. Even you just nominated one blog that would mean alot to me, and any more than that is a bonus. Whether you nominate or not, I will see you all in the voting part!

That's all from me for now. Thanks for reading!

This has been in production for a long time, and I'm glad to finally publish this! I originally meant to post it on December 1st but it wasn't ready and the instructions were mindbogglingly unclear... hopefully the extra month and a half was worth it :P

I think it’s pretty clear. I didn’t notice any rules about admin blogs. Should admin blogs be ineligible?

I thought about this. I initially considered leaving the more JetPunk-centric blogs off the table, while letting things like the Quizmaster's predictions be accepted. Ultimately I decided to accept them all. I'm still manually selecting all of the candidates myself, so Quizmaster or Stewart or any other user completely dominating a single category isn't really a concern of mine. If it becomes a problem I may add a rule about it, but I think it should be fine.

Would it be possible to have another category ? I think a "Best Blog Series" category would fit well. The Country Pyramid series would be my vote, but I can't decide on which blog in the series is best, they are all as good as each other.

Thanks, but I think "Second City Origins" probably deserves that spot.

Maybe add up the number of people who nominated an entry in that series? That might be unfair against standalone blogs, but I think it's a good compromise.

I considered adding a series category but decided not to since series tend to be made up of blogs across multiple years and it would raise alot of questions for they should be judged.

If you want you can just nominate the entire series as if it were a standalone blog. If anyone else nominates a specific blog from that series then I can just count your nomination with it.

I'm not going to nominate my own blogs, I'm not that vain😉

Now you have explained it, tbh I agree with you. Some series have spanned two or more years, and if you counted all noms in a series as one blog, that would be unfair on standalones.

Also, I see we have to sign in to Google to make nominations. I assume this is intentional (for example so we can go back and change our answers perhaps?). Anyway, I want to make sure that this is indeed private since my only google accounts are personal.

I won't be sharing any information related to the nominations (aside from general statistics, like "X blog get Y votes"), so you don't need to worry about any of your personal accounts being revealed. I don't even think I can view your Google account lol.

A good contest you are hosting! I submitted mine on best authors and I think I balanced it out between underrated authors and well established ones.

I also put myself as the 10th name, as I couldn't think of anyone else, so yeh. If I shouldn't do that, just forget it

It's fine to nominate yourself lol. I just put that there to encourage people to nominate bloggers other than themselves.

Through your spreadsheet, you could also calculate the most prolific bloggers, and those with the most total likes.

True! There is alot of information you can gather from this spreadsheet. It's part of why I made it.

Very good blog!

I don't know if it's the right place to do it but anyways. Do you want to be part of Hubertthephoenix's quiz about JetPunkers by AI image? If you want, please comment under this quiz.
