Mallorca - The unofficial wonder of the world
A beautiful treasure.
If you are visiting Europe for the sea, then this is the best place you could possibly go. With the calmest of seas and summers where there's more chance of winning the lottery than waking up to temperatures south of 25C, its the absolute peak of European holidays. With every single destination at your fingertip
I have discovered much of Majorca and here are some of the places which would be at the top of my list for a new tourist
#1 - Port Sóller - The typical spanish seaside town, it is the heart of oranges and lemons, you couldn't travel 100 yards without seeing a citrus of some sort. Trust me try the lemon sorbet. The small train which takes you from the port to the village is extraordinary. The village itself is an untouched beauty, with little cafés around every corner and don't worry thousands of places to get your soller magnet. This is just the town however, there is also a breathtaking drive into the port, with mountains and a tunnel out of some kind of tropical movie. In Mallorca this is the equivalent of a trip from New York to California, but luckily here it will only take you an hour or so from anywhere on the island. In my opinion it is the perfect stop!
#2 - Cuevas Del Drach, Porto Cristo - I was a bit shocked by the idea of paying to see some caves, but WOW they are special. I arrived in Porto Cristo and was amazed by the amount of tourists in this tiny area, all with the one goal of finding out the secret ending to the tour around the caves, don't worry I won't spoil it. The formations in the rocks were absolutely amazing, even for a novice like me, and the caves were not the only thing in this area. Aside from the absolute love for their own prodigy Rafa Nadal, the port and beaches there were fantastic, partly due to the astounding 32C heat on that day. Probably the highlight of any trip to Mallorca, so the caves are in my opinion a must see.
#3 - Alcudia and Pollença - Two absolutely incredible places on the coast of Mallorca, separated by just 4-5 miles. Beware of the one way roads on your way in, but otherwise these two attractions are possibly the most beautiful beaches and seas in the whole of Europe. I would be here for hours if I had to list the things available here, but some of the things I have to highlight are what follows:
--> Alcudia Waterpark - The kamikaze rides are amazing, ride on the yellow one though (I think its faster)
--> The 'Old Town' - Right in the middle of Alcudia and Pollença, almost like a little Italian piazza, absolutely magnificent and the atmosphere can only be matched by places like Sacré Coeur
--> Cycle from Alcudia to Pollença - Absolutely amazing views, such a nice way to get into the Mallorcan culture, there are more cyclist than cars on the beautiful stretch
--> The boat ride from Pollença to Formentor - I had to tell you about this hidden beauty, a little bit wavy, but the best views in the world, aqua blue seas with a beach escape. Deer roaming the land. This is the definition of natural beauty.
I hope I have shown you the beauty of Mallorca, I could go on forever with sight-seeing ideas, but I hope one day you can see this small, but incredible part of the world. Also if you are into sport and adventure, don't worry the coast is surrounded by breathtaking hiking adventures, and enough cycling routes to last you a lifetime.
Thank you for listening, I hope you enjoyed my review on Mallorca!
Jdogyy.
Can I suggest a few more pics in your next blog, just a little constructive criticism, not a complaint.
