Hello everyone, Lindwyrm here.
A couple of hours ago I finally reached an important milestone in my 6 months long JP quizmaker journey: 10,000 takes, which almost puts me in the top 3000 on the website. With this blog I want to briefly retell my (short) history on JetPunk, give some special thanks to some users who have helped me/cheered on me and tell some plans for the future
My history on JetPunk
I discovered JetPunk more than 2 years ago at this point. I was more bored than usual at the time and wanted to deepen my knowledge of geography, which I had developed a keen interest on (mainly due to my already existing passion for history).
I took quizzes on seterra for a little while and, though finding them well made and "slick" looking, I felt the scope of the website was limited (there are but a few playable quizzes there). I briefly wandered into The Website That Shall Not Be Named, but I quickly realized I really, really didn't like almost everything about it, from the layout, to ads, to the actual content.
Then, one day, after coming across a video on the coat of arms of the world quiz, I discovered JetPunk and almost immediately fell in love with it. We take it for granted, but this site really is a gem in many aspects, like how it functions, the immense amount of user generated content (almost none of which feels like "slop", might I add), the web 1.0 vibes it gives off, the "cozy" community and so on.
Even though I was playing quizzes daily, I would only make an account in August 2024 (I think) and only started out as a quizmaker in April 2025, at first starting out with simple quizzes, especially sudden deaths, but then discovering my true calling, that being SVG mapping.
At this point, I have made dozens and dozens of maps about historical countries and subdivisions but I can't seem to stop, it's so incredibly fun and I think I've fallen in love with the software I use to make these maps (Inkscape).
The takes started to rise steadily (thanks to a couple of lucky spotlights on my top quizzes) and here we are now, with 10k of them on the top of my live quizzes page.
What's next?
In the next few months I'll continue putting out quizzes, if I have time, possibly not as frequently as before. Then, but it'll definitely take a few months, I want to start a blog series about something that has never, ever been attempted on the website: I'm still in the early stages of this project so I won't spoil anything, but I'm sure you'll love it.
My top 10 quizzes
Like I did in a previous blog, I want to make a list of my favourite quizzes that I made so far:
10) All Possessions of the French Colonial Empire on a Map: It's my most taken quiz by far and I like how it turned out, but it's far from my favourite
9) Color the Historical Flags #1: This also turned out well, it's bright and colorful, which I do like, but it's also a fairly overdone kind of quiz on JP, which lands him here at the bottom of the top 10
8) Coats of Arms of the Departments of France: this has very few takes, but the sheer regularity of the coats of arms makes me happy
7) Territories of the Republic of Venice in 1789 on a Map: had to trace this one manually lol
6) History and Geography of Austria-Hungary on a Map: probably doesn't deserve to be here because I copied the format from Maxibon and YungBadass
5) Prefectures of the Japanese Empire on a Map: I am oh-so-proud of this quiz, it looks so cool, my only qualm being that it doesn't feature other countries and the sea (I will add them one day)
4) Provinces of Fascist Italy in 1942 on a Map: sleek quiz, but it there's something wrong about it that I can't quite pin out
3) Provinces of New Spain in 1794 on a Map: it's just good
2) Departments of France in 1958 on a Map: looks MAJESTIC but maybe a little too bright
aaaaaannnnddd....
1) All Subdivisions of the Soviet Union on a Map: this is my best quiz, one the of the first map quizzes I've made, edited it like a thousand times, huge size, what's not to love about it?
