Cats vs. Dogs, which is better?

Before we begin...

Quick note: I might be posting more blogs now because I've made two now and find it very fun. These do also take a while to produce, but I enjoy writing about anything, and this is a great way for me to just talk, maybe to only a few people, but I still just like to get my ideas out there. If you read my first ever blog, you'd know I'm in school currently and don't have much free time. However, I do get summers off, which is a whole lot of free time. So, I might be able to upload more quizzes and blogs then. But as of now, I'm still in school. With all that aside, enjoy this blog!

Why this blog?

I think that the debate over the better pet is one of the most controversial topics on the internet, if you exclude politics, celebrities, sports... um... okay, maybe this topic isn't actually that popular. But, it's still a controversial debate for sure. "So why are you making this blog then Lucky?" Well, reader, I think that my opinion matters, and I think that this debate isn't actually a debate, but rather what kind of personality you want in a pet. So, without further ado, here is what I think.

What I think about cats

Even if you didn't know me before clicking on this blog, you'd have seen that my name is LuckyCat. So, SURPRISE! I like cats! But, I think you want a little more information than that, right? I do have one cat, and his name is Obi. He's around 7 years old (in cat years), and he is the sweetest thing you'll ever meet. Obi is an orange tabby, and loves to spend most of his time outdoors, rain or shine (You may or may not know, but it is widely accepted that orange cats are the "stupidest" cats, which is probably why Obi wants to go outside every time it's pouring rain lol). I live in Charleston, South Carolina, in a suburban neighborhood, so my cat has a good amount of space to roam. There are also many stray cats that inhabit my neighborhood, and I have no clue where they came from. But, these strays are also surprisingly nice, and love pets and cuddles just as much as Obi does. This is one of the big reasons why I prefer cats over dogs, not just because I'm surrounded by cats, but because I've only ever had cat(s) growing up (also, if you saw a stray dog in your neighborhood, it'd be a whole lot different than finding a stray cat), and it's because of all this love I get from cats, I like cats more than I like dogs. However, I don't hate dogs, nor do I dislike them. Cats are (usually) smaller than dogs, meaning they aren't as big of a hassle to clean, and they (usually) don't need as much food. Cats are generally more gentle (not to be confused with loving, as both can be very loving), and generally don't make as much noise as dogs do. However, again, all this is based on my own opinion of cats, because I haven't grown up with any dogs.

What I think about dogs

What I think about dogs is that they're also really good pets to have. The saying "man's best friend" doesn't come from nowhere; dogs really are man's best friend, being extremely loyal and playful around people which they trust. My mom had a dog who she loved dearly, and her dog also loved her just as much in return. However, this is the same for cats, as cats will also be playful around people which they trust, and want to snuggle just like dogs would if they feel safe. The one notable difference that I see between dogs and cats is the idea of loyalty. If a dog feels safe around a human, that dog will go out of its way to make sure their hooman feels loved, protected, and comfortable, literally acting as a best friend. The same can't be said for cats, since as I mentioned above, cats, well, they like to wander off. My cat will come in, eat, then want to go back outside without even saying thank you. This isn't very loyal, but the cat still understands if it's "loyal" and comes back every day, it will get food. An occasional snuggle is given if my cat wants to sleep after he eats, but I think that dogs take the cake here, being so much more loyal than cats. (This can also be rooted back to history, as cats were treated like gods in ancient Egypt. Egyptians thought that cats were good luck tokens, so they kept them as pets in their homes. This dripped down through evolution, and cats still have a king-like mindset. Cats do still depend on human controlled factors like a consistent food source, but still think that they can do whatever they want whenever). Dogs, on the other hand, don't think like this, and instead want love from their hooman. In return, dogs respect and protect their hooman, demonstrating fierce loyalty that isn't usually seen in cats.

Conclusion

To tie everything back together, I like cats more than I like dogs. This doesn't mean I hate dogs, it's just that I like cats better. I grew up with cats, so my opinion is biased in some ways. I do try to see both sides of this debate, but ultimately, cats are on top for me. Like I said at the beginning, it's really all about the type of personality you're looking for in a pet. A calm, simple pet would be a cat, and a happy, loyal pet would be a dog. I absolutely love my cat, and would do anything for him. If you own a dog and think differently than I do, leave a comment! If you own a cat, tell me about that too! I'd love to hear everyone's opinions about this hot topic and your thoughts on this blog as well!

Me and my sister both own cats, mine is 14 and hers is 7, so they have very different temperaments. While I find dogs adorable, I will have to agree with you on this one. Cats ftw!

I love both cats and dogs, but I think I like dogs more they're more social and friendly. However, I also love cats because they're so cute and sweet.

I used to have two calico cats (which are considered, well, lucky). I loved them so much and then my mom sold them because apparently they were annoying.

Their cat tower has been in our loft for a year since then -_-

*visible sadness and panik* omg who sells cats???

Once a cat gets close to you, it's hard to let go. I know that one day my cat won't be in my life (I'll probably be in college and won't be able to see him daily) but I just try to spend as much time with him as possible before I or he goes. At least you have the memory of your cats left :)

i do like both cats and dogs, but feral cats are a huge problem here, meaning everyone else in my family dislikes them a decent amount

This is my short summary of this blog accept the answers are my answers:

What I Think About Cats: Cats are cute, fun, friendly (not all), and my worst favorite thing is well lets begin with this. I mean I really like cats but I got a little disgusted when I saw THIS: My neighbor's orange tabby (sadly he left) pulls a worm out of no where and starts to try to catch it. I got terrified when I saw this. My second reason is they scratch and bite. I never felt the bite but I had experience with a light scratch about 3 times and a bigger scratch (not too painful) and I didn't like it. Well why would I? Anyways you might think I wrote this to say I don't like cats but I really like them and they're in my top 5 favorite animals.

What I Think About Dogs:

I'm not a dog fan but they're cute. Also, I'd like a dog better then a cat for a pet for 2 reasons.

Reason 1: Cats get wild with birds and I've got 5 so they wouldn't survive a cat and I dog SHOULD be fine.

Reason 2: This is not referring to

I just ran out of characters on that other comment so I won't write too much, no promises.

all dogs but dogs wouldn't just bite when they're getting annoyed like cats do.

Trying to keep it short but also aren't orange tabbies considered more wild and scratchy than "stupid"?
