Welcome Back

Hello, readers. Welcome back to the JetPunk Magazine. In this blog, I report on all the biggest happenings on the site, from new features to cool stories and everything in between. This edition also saw many more contributors, so I'm happy to share their articles with you. Thanks for stopping by, now sit back, relax, and enjoy the JetPunk Magazine!

JetPunk Magazine Backstory

If you're a returning reader of the JetPunk Magazine, you can skip this section and find the more vivid topics for your enjoyment. For you newcomers, read this short backstory. It will provide understanding.

I didn't include this in the first episode for some minor reasons, but the biggest reason was that I wanted specific input from Astana to have something to go along with this. The next section of this Magazine is a word from Astana. Before I go too deep, let me tell you who Astana is:

Astana was a prominent JetPunk user involved in the community. I use past tense because, well, she deleted her account. The reason is actually bittersweet, because it was for her own life purposes that she had to leave JetPunk. We all (mostly I think) felt sad she had to leave her passion, but it was ultimately the better decision for her.

While she made some fabulous quizzes for all to take, she was mainly know for her blogs, having around a collective 150. That's a crazy amount, considering she had only been doing it for 4 years. Her blogs were mostly stories she wrote, ranging from mysteries to fantasies to wonderful works of fiction. Astana could write great stories. On top of these story blogs were her blogs about coding, debates, and of course, her JetPunk Magazine.

She created the JetPunk Magazine almost 2 years ago, give or take. In that time, it grew in popularity. She reported the big hits of the site, and discussed the things that should be discussed. It become such a notable series that other users wanted to contribute their own thoughts. This built up the Magazine to today, where I now write the same things, letting users add their thoughts if they so please. This series is so important to me, as it gives JetPunk a sense of closeness and identity.

Now that you now, let us continue on to Astana's personal message for all her fans, new and old.

A Word from Astana

"It's been a while since I was active here. I have visited the site from time to time, mostly to play Dimby's quizzes, but I've been occasionally checking out what's new. Since I deleted my account, there haven't been many reasons to visit the site, but I do want to include some personal statements in every Magazine issue.

I hope everyone is doing well, and you are having a good time both online and offline. The list of friends I made is too long to include here, so I just want to thank every one of you for your kindness and support.

And thanks to Lucky for continuing my Magazine, and doing an amazing job. I look forward to reading everyone's entries. Good luck to all of you."

- Astana

Well Astana, if there is one reason anyone should come back to JetPunk, it should be to play Dimby's quizzes. But also to see all the new things. Change is inevitable, so we learn to accept it, even when we don't like it at first. And we can look at what changed and say "I remember", and think about all the things we used to know, used to see, and hold those things even closer.

We are all getting by just fine. It has never been the same without you, especially since I have no more references for the Magazine. But maybe that's for the best. Change is inevitable, eh?

My goal for the Magazine is to keep it as similar to the originals as possible. There are people reading this right now who never read the original JetPunk Magazines Astana made. There are people reading this right now who think I'm the sole creator of the idea. No. Give all the credit to Astana. She's the only reason you have a JetPunk Magazine to read at all. I just picked up the torch.

Thank you for the kind words Astana. You still have so many friends here on the Punk, and we still think about you. And I also hope everyone enjoys the user entries, since it's hard to get people to participate in something like this. You've all been patient, so let's get into it, shall we?

The Conclusion of Multiple Choice City Quizzes

At the beginning of 2025, a new trend emerged which saw Quizmaster create quizzes titled "Multiple Choice City Quiz - _______". Also known as MCCQs, these quizzes were short and sweet, being 10 questions each about a specific world city. Well, the trend caught on, and many other users partook in creating their own quizzes to contribute to the growing series. Many users got some of their MCCQs Featured, and spotlighted on the Front Page. With a total of 100 Featured MCCQs hitting the Front Page, let's take a moment to reflect on just how incredible this series was.

The first MCCQ to appear on the Front Page was Tokyo, Japan, created by Quizmaster. Tokyo is currently in the top 10 most-taken MCCQs, most likely because of it's fame rather than it being the first one to hit the Front Page. The quiz is linked below.

The last MCCQ to appear on the Front Page was Vatican City, created by Jack541. Even though it's a tiny city, and the last city to appear on the Front Page, it still managed to place fifth on the list below. Check out all the other cities too!

Top 10 List of MCCQs by Takes:

London - by Quizmaster, with 40,000 takes

New York City - by MasterRocket, with 20,000 takes

Paris - by baptistegorce, with 18,000 takes

Rome - by Quizmaster, with 18,000 takes

Vatican City - by Jack541, with 15,000 takes

Monaco - by baptistegorce, with 15,000 takes

Barcelona - by baptistegorce, with 14,000 takes

Tokyo by Quizmaster, with 13,000 takes

Berlin - by PurpleCharlie, with 13,000 takes

Chicago by MasterRocket, with 13,000 takes

Overall, I think the top 10 is pretty accurate. London being the top is sensible, but it having double the amount of takes as #2 surprised me, especially considering that New York City is just as famous. Maybe because Quizmaster made London. Of course, the entire top 10 is comprised of famous cities. Seeing the Vatican City and Monaco up here is quite funny, considering that they are the two smallest countries in the world. However, that makes them even more famous, along with the fact that they are popular tourist destinations for Europeans and everyone else who wants a nice vacation.

Here is the list of every MCCQ released, kindly put together by user baptistegorce. Consider taking a scroll through this directory, as I'm sure you may find a city that interests you. This list contains many of the MCCQs published, so huge probs to baptistegorce for his amazing work! It isn't all of them, as that would be a daunting task. There are also a few Featured MCCQs missing, but the majority of them are in this list. Also see this lovely map (it might not be visible for some, sorry).

If you still want to make your own MCCQ, check out this blog created by user MasterRocket. It is the perfect guide for you to perfect your next MCCQ.

With the ending of the MCCQ era, a new Badge has been added! Appropriately called the Multiple Choice City Quiz Badge, it comprises all 100 Featured MCCQs into one single Badge. The required score for each and every quiz is 5/10, or half of the questions correct. A pretty generous score, but some of these quizzes are about "lesser-known" cities, if I dare say that. I guess what I mean is that the average non-American probably won't know much about Cleveland, Ohio, just as the average American might not know much about Geneva, Switzerland. So 50% is a good score. So far, only about 1,000 users have earned the Badge. Let's get that number up!

Badge thumbnail depicts the Tower Bridge located in London, since London is the most taken MCCQ!

This brings the total Badge number up to 34. If you haven't completed many of these MCCQs, it might take a while to earn the Badge, but not that long. Each quiz is only 10 Multiple Choice questions after all. Have fun quizzing!

MCCQs in Other Languages

This project has also seen activity in other languages, namely Spanish, French, and Polish. Many Featured MCCQs from the English section were translated into these other languages, where they were also Featured as part of the same project. Not every MCCQ for these foreign languages has been Featured yet, but many of the quizzes have been translated over.

For Spanish, user cathlete has created a Playlist for the few MCCQs that are part of the project. There are only 10 with 4 being Featured, but most of them are major Spanish speaking cities. The most played is Barcelona, which makes sense. There might be more cities that are not in the Playlist.

For French, user baptistegorce has created a similar Playlist for all the MCCQs that were translated for the project. This Playlist includes every Featured MCCQ from the English section, even though only 1 of the quizzes is Featured in French. This is of course Paris, however, it isn't even the most taken MCCQ in the French section. The title of most taken MCCQ in French goes to Lille.

For Polish, I cannot find a complete Playlist of all the translated cities. However, there have been many MCCQs translated over into Polish from English, many by users youtubeplayer and Tayger.

Thanks to every user who made one of these amazing quizzes, and thanks to the translators for doing so much for this little JetPunk project! It's amazing to see what our community can accomplish.

JetPunk - It's Quiz Time! New Front Page

On June 13, 2025, Quizmaster posted this thread to the Message Board describing the potential change of the Front Page. In short, the Front Page has had very little change since the very beginning. It used to have that old-timey feel, while still serving the vital role of attracting users in and guiding them throughout the site. However, the Front Page was due for a clean-up. Nothing major, just some remodeling to appeal to the new era of users. The goal for changing up the Front Page was to increase traffic to the site and gain revenue from more potential users.

The biggest change was the addition of the "Customize your front page" ability. This new feature gives users the option to customize their Front Page how they like. While some things are permanent, like the daily quizzes, Trivia Challenge, etc., users can now add additional sections to the side. Below are the sections. I currently have all of the sections in "use", but to remove a section from your customized Front Page, simply click the "x" next to the panel you want to remove. Don't forget to save your changes! See the image below for a visual.

New Front Page Panels:

User Spotlights

Recent User-Created Quizzes

Recent Quizzes From Subscriptions

Your Recent Quiz Takes

Useful Links

Greatest Hits

Recommendations

Language Selector

New and Reset Featured Quizzes

What it looks like visually:

Dark Mode is better than Light Mode. This option is still in the Menu, sadly.

You can add and remove each section from your Front Page, allowing you to fill the space however you like. This implementation makes the site feel more homey, and might keep users coming back, seeing new Featured quizzes and more.

The User Spotlight section was already on the Front Page before the change. The other sections were hidden around the site in various other locations, like the Menu bar. So, to potentially increase user traffic to the site, and to allow newer users to understand the site a bit better, Quizmaster added all of the other panels. These sections are important to JetPunk, so including them on the Front Page will allow more people to see them, which is a splendid change for the site as a whole.

All of these sections are fantastic. The "Recent" sections make the site feel like it's moving along with time, instead of sitting and staying the same like it used to do before the change. These sections also influence users to come back and see all the new quizzes they could take. Same with the New and Reset Featured Quizzes section.

The Greatest Hits and Recommendations sections serve as an attraction for newer users looking to take some of JetPunk's best quizzes, while also suiting to the specific user. This idea of uniqueness plays into the attraction aspect of the new Front Page, where users are more likely to come back if they feel that the site fits more to them. That's one big reason why the change even happened in the first place, since the old Front Page was never customizable, meaning that there wasn't much of a reason for users to stick around if they didn't connect with anything they saw directly. Now, people can easily access so much more just by scrolling instead of clicking every button they can find.

The Language Selector is a nice touch for everybody, and the User Spotlight is an essential part of JetPunk, highlighting quizzes that are not Featured—spotlights are awarded randomly, and users can use them on their own quizzes or other quizzes. Your Recent Quiz Takes acts as a sort of "History" section, where you can see all of the quizzes you have taken from around the past two months or so.

Finally, the Useful Links section gives users the chance to add specific parts of JetPunk to their Front Page. With the implementation of "Bookmarks", users can now 'star' any specific page of JetPunk they like, and it will automatically be added to the Useful Links section on their Front Page. This acts as a simple navigation tool, where instead of typing or clicking multiple buttons, users can now return to their Front Page (again, keeping people coming back), and press one link to take them to their favorite parts of JetPunk or whatever they might enjoy the most. A fabulous addition.

In all, the New Front Page is not a drastic change from what it was before. It's meant to feel newer, while also keeping aspects from the past. The Front Page is now much more versatile than it ever was, and includes more of JetPunk as well. A win-win, and very well-designed and thought out.

User Spotlight Surprise

A section I want to add because I feel like there are so many users who deserve more recognition. I will not crowd this section, therefore only one user will be included for this Magazine issue and every future issue as well. I hope my choices are well-received by the audience.

First Spotlight: Capybarra's Blogging

Capybarra is a notable face in the direct community here. He is known for hosting his fabulous games, and I can speak for everyone when I say that his games are phenomenal pieces of work. They are planned out to greatness, with each game he hosts being unique and something fun for everybody.

His first game, called Country Showdown, is a game where countries (JetPunk users) face off in challenges, trying to be the last one standing. There are alliances, betrayals, and madness! I personally haven't looked deeply into this game of his, but it sounds incredibly fun.

His second game, called JetPunk Traitors, started off as a small little Message Board game before it had to move to the greater Blogging section. There, it evolved into something more, with other users seeing it and catching on. I played in this one, and was able to experience both sides of the challenge. The Innocents had to try and weed out the Traitors by playing challenges and figuring out who was sabotaging. I started off as an Innocent, staying alive long enough to be requested to join the Traitors. I made it to the end before the Innocents discovered me, and in all, the Traitors were defeated. A very fun game as well, and executed fantastically.

His most recent game, called Total JetPunk Drama, is pretty crazy. It's another challenge game, but this time, players are divided into two teams instead of going solo. The teams must work together to win each challenge, because the losers are forced to vote out someone from their own team! It's very fun to watch the Drama unfold, and trust is something that is gained and lost. My personal favorite game so far, although each of these games are all equally impressive.

Special shoutout to Capybarra - the Gamemaster

This spotlight isn't meant to make anyone feel bad. If you do feel bad that you didn't get a spotlight, please do not feel this way. I love highlighting users who do great things on JetPunk. If I highlighted every user who did great things on JetPunk, the Magazine would surpass the maximum word count limit. I want to display individual users for the things they bring to the site. If you think this is you, then be patient, and maybe I will pick you too. Until then, let's all thank Capybarra for his amazing games!

Customized Jeppy Profile Picture Display Reminder

Here is your reminder. I know you forgot. Do you still like your Jeppy?

The Featured Foreign Language Sections

Written by cathlete

Over the summer there has been a healthy amount of quizzes that were featured in non-English languages. Polish continued with its 3 daily features, French with ~1 and same with SpanishGerman had 22 features in August, 3 in July, and 10 in June. Italian had 3 in June, Portuguese had 1 in June, and Finnish had one a day in June, 3 in July, and one in August. Dutch had no features those months.

Besides features throughout the summer, one notable change, the new front page, has been updated across all languages, not just on the English section. The many trusted users worked hard to find the best translations for their languages and finding bugs, so thanks to them for that!! One notable different on the foreign languages' front pages is that the first page goes back 16 days instead of 8 like on the English version.

The last noteworthy change, besides the MCCQ projects mentioned elsewhere in this magazine on the Polish & French sections, is some continued efforts made by Stewart to strengthen the translator hub he has created for trusted users.

For more details about how foreign language blogs have been going this summer, and this whole year, check out this chart by baptistegorce!

Muck thanks to cathlete for his article entry. Short and sweet, and if you participate in another language section of JetPunk, thanks for your contribution! The chart gives a great perspective on how popular the top languages are for writing blogs on JetPunk.

Ranking the Eight Quiz Formats

Written by Maxibon

Introduction

Welcome to my ranking of all the quiz formats on JetPunk. Along with the rankings, I will be giving reasons for my decisions. I should probably add, this is by no means an objective list, it is simply my opinion, which you are free to criticize. Now, let's get onto the rankings themselves, and at the bottom of the list...

#8 - Tile Select

This is to be expected since as a format, Tile Select is very limiting and works only in specific concepts, the majority of which have already been made. Basically, it's just multiple choice, just with more than one correct answer. According to this blog by Stewart, Tile Select is the least played quiz format by over 3.5 million plays, a gap which I see steadily increasing since the last featured quiz in this format was back in February 2024. There are however, things to like about Tile Select, such as the questions being sorted into panels and being able to shift through them with the arrows instead of scrolling down.

#7 - Multiple Choice

Here's where it might start to get a bit controversial, but just hear me out. I see Multiple Choice as a format that is here due to being so famous and necessary in other sites, not because it has anything special to offer. Recent updates, for example being able to see percentages on wrong answers, certainly made me consider putting Multiple Choice higher up, though until further additions, it's staying where it is.

#6 - Picture

Yet another extremely popular quiz format getting a low spot on this list. The points I made for Multiple Choice also count for this format though there are some differences which make this better. For one there is the option of adding hints underneath the picture and having to actually type something in, which makes you remember information better than clicking. Picture quizzes being more visually appealing than Multiple Choice quizzes cements its sixth position.

#5 - Click

Realistically, this format cannot be ranked very different from Multiple Choice since they are very similar. The main reasons why Click is two spots higher is that it is faster paced and that some amazing quizzes (including this and this) can be made using this format. With the help of HTML, Click quizzes can become better than most SVG quizzes, though it isn't too frequent that we see quizzes like this.

#4 - Map Quiz

Missing out on the top three is a very solid format which I don't have that much criticism for. The only thing I would say is that it would be nice to be able to click on the SVG itself, not the text on the side, but that has been added as its own format recently. If you're not a fan of typing yet you want to try a quiz with a map, then this is the format for you.

#3 - Click Map

This is the newest format but it isn't exactly a new concept, just an improvement on an already existing one. The interface is really clean and being able to click on the SVG itself without having to go to the text panel satisfies my lazy brain. The only sad part is that CSS animations won't function properly with this format, leading to certain ideas not being possible, though that is to be expected.

#2 - Sudden Death

There is nothing to hate about this format, and I mean nothing. If you know your stuff, it should be a breeze, but you have to be extremely careful as a single careless click and the quiz abruptly ends. With the help of some code, masterpieces have been made with the help of Sudden Death. The only downside, which is not a problem of the format itself, is that users tend to spam Sudden Death quizzes due to how easy they are to make, but this can happen with any format.

#1 - Text

Some people may call this format boring but they just don't know how to use it. This format has endless possibilities, including interesting statistical quizzes, SVG masterpieces, and things you didn't even know were possible. It truly is the 'everything' format. The addition of Whammies in 2024 further solidified the Text format's position at number one since now, users could lose lives if they type in an incorrect answer, giving quiz-makers more concepts to play with.

Much thanks to Maxibon for his article entry. Go check out the full blog too, it consists of pictures and more descriptions for your enjoyment. I think his ranking is fair and respectable, what do you think?

What are JetPunkers' Favorite Ways to Procrastinate?

Written by KiloNova

We all, instead of doing anything productive, end up doing something completely unrelated before rushing to barely meet the deadline. Right now, I’m procrastinating on my homework by writing this article. Anyway, let’s get into it - what are your favorite ways to do nothing?

Ethaboo444: Sleeping

Comments: I don’t know how people are able to take naps, but here we are.

LuckyCat: Doomscrolling

Comments: There were quite a few similar answers in the poll…heh.

SonyVondern: Staring at the clouds or creating fantasy maps

Comments: Very interesting, considering I do something similar; making maps based off of cloud shapes in the sky. I could see how that’s entertaining.

Sadu: Reading relationship drama on Reddit

Comments: Again, I can see how this is entertaining. Relationship drama is very fun to read.

cynthesizer: Building Spotify playlists

Comments: Interesting once again! Do these playlists tell a story? Spell out something? Or are just a collection of good songs? Guess we’ll never know.

Lexiconic: I drift away from my to-do list and end up working on little side projects that feel productive, but aren’t what I was supposed to be doing

Comments: So relatable! Spending hours making a nice JetPunk quiz or editing a video only to find out you haven’t been doing anything actually important. But hey, it’s better then, say…staring at social media. *cough*

KiloNova: Contemplating my life choices

Comments: Well said, well said. What if I never met that person? What if I got there a bit earlier? What if that cable wasn’t there? It’s impossible that you’ve lead up to this exact moment in your life. But, here you are…

Outro

Thanks to everyone who took the survey! What’s next? Procrastinating by reading more of the magazine?

Much thanks to KiloNova for his article entry. Procrastinating is certainly a big issue, and I presume that many JetPunkers encounter it more often than others. JetPunk is a wonderful place to procrastinate, don't get me wrong, but we should all strive to get our tasks done before hopping on Random Mode or Minesweeper. I'm actually quite surprised that no one said JetPunk...

User Quiz Spotlights

Idea and quizzes provided by MeMeMe333

Much thanks to MeMeMe333 for finding and selecting these quizzes for the spotlight. These quizzes are from users in the community, and in future Magazine editions, we might include more. As for now, consider taking these quizzes! They're all really great of course, and might be Featured one day.

Queues - The Science of Standing in Line

Written by Anonymousbear25

Queues, or lines, are something that everyone has experienced a lot, so much that we stop thinking about it. From weekly supermarket checkout lines, to the stampedes impatiently waiting for that one Disneyland rollercoaster, they are everywhere.

Queues exist as a simple system where people form a line to wait for something because there is a limit of resources, as a “first come first serve” rule. But sometimes that rule is broken, with people cutting the line, or paying more to jump forwards.

On average, a person spends 113 hours per year in a queue, which roughly equals to 5 days per year. In an average lifetime, 1 year is spent patiently (or impatiently) waiting in a line of people. That’s a lot. Too much.  That is wasted time, wasted opportunities to do other things. And it frustrates everyone, including you and I (probably).

It also impacts lots of business. 86% of people tend to avoid long queues, just 9 minutes of wait could make someone walk away. That makes unhappy customers and lost sales.

But since complaining to ourselves isn’t going to do much, the best thing we could do is finding solutions. Psychologists find that being distracted makes the waiting shorter in your head, which is one of the reasons that theme parks put on music. While you wait in the queue, maybe read a book, listen to a podcast, play a game, in real life or on your phone, take quizzes on JetPunk, or start a conversation with someone, it’ll make hours feel like seconds!

Some ways to actually make the line shorter would be to get more staff, which creates multiple queues, making them shorter. But staff can be hard to get sometimes, which is why self service is a good option. Self checkouts in supermarkets are very effective, with 50% of reduced queue length, saving around 2 minutes per transaction. Some stores also make express lanes, for quick shoppers with very few items.

In the end, queues remind us that we’re all in this together, moving forward, one patient step at a time.

Another issue is how the word “queue” is spelt, but that's for another time.

Much thanks to Anonymousbear25 for his article entry. Very interesting to see the statistics, and how it impacts our everyday lives. It's become such a common thing to waste our lives away that we don't even notice it much anymore. However, as civilization, we adapt to patience. Time is just a concept, but it's something we can never get back once lost. In that case, go take some JetPunk quizzes while you can!

Conclusion

This is possibly the longest Magazine edition to date. Of course I have no way of knowing, but I'll say that we are currently over 30,000 characters... yeah that's a lot. But that's what I love to see. It means good things happened; there was a lot of JetPunk news to cover, and that we had a plentiful number of users write their own articles for the Magazine. That's what makes each Magazine edition happy and healthy; the contribution. There won't always be a lot of things that happen on JetPunk by itself, so I'm always counting on users to help out. One or two could make the difference.

If you wish to write an article entry of your own, make a blog and collab it with me. I would appreciate this help, since I can't always think of much to say on my own. I'm glad Astana let me continue this tiny portion of her legacy, it really means a lot to me. Don't forget to thank Astana in the comments!

Thank you for reading, and I hope our community can continue to grow. See you soon.
