Introduction
Music is one of the things in this world that makes me the happiest. From listening to singing along, I couldn't live without it. I've found my "range" of music, or favorite genres and such, and continuously search for new songs to vibe to by my favorite artists. And all of this vibing got me wondering: what are my favorite albums? I knew that I listened to a lot of different artists, but there had to be song artists that I listened to more than others. So now, I've put together for you a list of my top 5 favorite albums, including my top 5 favorite songs in each album.
I hope that some of you viewers will agree with my choices. I know that people have vastly different music tastes, so don't judge me pweese.
1. "÷ (Divide)" — Ed Sheeran
My all time favorite artist has to be Ed Sheeran. There seems to be a clear division between people who like Ed and people who don't; I'm a constant listener and can't take my ears away from his beautiful tunes. He has a fantastic mix of slow songs, fast songs, sad songs, happy songs, everything. And I like it all. But my favorite Ed Sheeran album goes to "÷", or "Divide".
If you somehow don't know who Ed Sheeran is, he's an English singer and songwriter known all across the world for his pop and folk-infused music style. It's perfect for me, which is why Ed gets my number one spot on this list. Ed is a great guitar player and performer who holds concerts globally for all his fans, in fact, his most recent album "▶ (Play)" saw him touring the world, collaborating with artists from many different countries. This album is nice too, but doesn't make the list this time.
The reason I chose "÷" as my favorite is simple: I like the songs in it. They hit me deeply and force me to sing along every time whether I realize it or not. So, here are my top five favorite songs in the album:
HM. Happier
5. Shape of You
4. New Man
3. Galway Girl
2. Perfect
1. Castle on the Hill
I think we all know that Ed's top song ever is "Shape of You". It is one of the most streamed songs in the world, and was the first to hit 2 billion streams on Spotify, as well as topping many lists like the US Billboard Hot 100. While the song is great and I listen to it every now and then, it has never been a favorite of mine.
Fun Fact: I learned how to play "Perfect" on the guitar. It's quite easy for a beginner like myself, and sounds pretty good too. I can't do any fancy things to make it really good but it's just simple chords and an easy strumming pattern, plus a capo if you want.
On the flip side, "Castle on the Hill" is probably one of my favorite songs of all time. The meaning behind the lyrics is so great, and the beat and vocals are among my favorites, at least from Ed. However, he also has another album which I love just as much.
2. "X (Multiply)" — Ed Sheeran
Yeah, I like Ed Sheeran. But for this blog, these will be the only two albums of his that I'll mention. I like many other songs of his, but they're scattered. I chose "X" because I couldn't leave out some of his other songs that I like so much, a good bit of which can be found here. So, here are my top five favorite songs in the album:
HM. Bloodstream
5. Don't
4. I'm A Mess
3. Afire Love
2. Photograph
1. Thinking Out Loud
There aren't as many songs in this album that I listen to often, but enough for me to talk about. "Don't" has a surprising number of plays in my opinion, being the third largest song in the album by streams. I don't really know why I find this surprising; it's not a bad song and even made my own top five favorites. It's getting close to 1 billion streams, so props to Ed.
Fun Fact: Friend and former JetPunk user Tayger recommended "Afire Love" to me some months ago, and I got so hooked to the song it became my most listened to song for the month.
Topping this album's list is "Thinking Out Loud". This one has nearly 3 billion streams, which is understandable because it's a great song. If you're an Ed Sheeran fan, you most certainly like this song. Again, it's a lyrical masterpiece and the beat is too good to not vibe to.
"Fireworks & Rollerblades" — Benson Boone
Benson Boone is a relatively new artist on the stage, becoming popular around 2021. Since then, he's released some banger songs that I've grown fond of, and so have many other people. Just like Ed Sheeran, I know there are two types of people: those who like Benson and those who don't. I'm a liker, and think his songs are great. So, here are my top five favorite songs in the album:
HM. Cry
5. Be Someone
4. In The Stars
3. Ghost Town
2. Slow It Down
1. Beautiful Things
A pretty based list, or in regular words, a list that's nothing special. But these songs are just perfect for me. "Be Someone" is a song I recently got hooked on, mainly because of the beat and how the song flows, but also the words of course, a good song has to have good lyrics. And this song surely does, in my opinion. This is the style of song that I like the best, buuuuut... Benson has other really great options.
Fun Fact: I think I sound good singing. Don't we all? Well, "Slow It Down" used to be too high-pitched for me to sing, but after months of practicing in the shower, I can finally reach those tippy top notes that Benson hits. Do they sound good? Yeah, probably not so much. But hey, they're fun to hit.
I couldn't not put "Beautiful Things" at number one on this album's list. It's so fun to sing, and that's really the biggest reason why it's up here. Yes, the lyrics are my cup of tea, but like previously stated, all of these songs have wonderful words. There's just something about this one that better than the rest.
"Sour" — Olivia Rodrigo
I honestly couldn't leave Olivia Rodrigo off my list. I love her music; her lyrics are so good, and she's without a doubt my favorite female artist. Her album "Sour" is by far her most played, streamed, and sold album, with many of its songs hitting crazy highs. So, here are my top five favorite songs in the album:
5. Happier
4. Traitor
3. Deja Vu
2. Drivers License
1. Good 4 U
I couldn't find an honorable mention for this one, but I wanted to include the album nonetheless. "Happier", not to be confused with Ed Sheeran's of course, isn't my absolute favorite kind of song, but made the list here, mainly because of the lyrics. I guess it isn't entirely the lyrics, she adds really good beats to her songs too, but I like her mostly because of the words she uses.
Fun Fact: I got my driver's license about two months ago! Had to do all the normal American things like take a class, take a written exam, do practice lessons, all that stuff. I think I'm a good driver, it really isn't hard at all. You just gotta be on the watch for stupid people. "Defensive driving" as they say. Now I can drive to school, hang with friends, but not a girl because I'm lonely.
Good 4 U is one of her songs where the beat really carries, but the lyrics are just perfect. I'm a guy so I can't relate to them or anything, but I mean, she gets my hooked which is impressive. This song hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100, being her second song to do it after Drivers License.
"Nine Track Mind" — Charlie Puth
Charlie Puth is an artist I listen to off and on, but his music is still some of my favorites. He has a lot of scattered songs that I like, but this album comprises the most of them, so here we are. He's been making music for a while, and has had numerous big hits, no surprises there. With his perfect pitch and his flattering facial features, Charlie has managed to stand out. So, here are my top five favorite songs in the album:
HM. As You Are (Ft. Shy Carter)
5. Up All Night
4. Some Type of Love
3. One Call Away
2. We Don't Talk Anymore (Ft. Selena Gomez)
1. Marvin Gaye (Ft. Meghan Trainor)
I think it's the way he sings that gets me attached to his music. "Up All Night" is surely one of these songs, because even though the lyrics aren't the best, I still like the song enough for it to make the list.
Fun Fact: I hate Spotify. With the ads and having to pay for too much, I never use it. Plus I think it's confusing to use. I prefer YouTube Music, it's just the better app for me.
Topping this album's list is Marvin Gaye featuring Meghan Trainor. I think this collab was executed nicely by them both, and I love Charlie's high voice throughout the song. The lyrics... I mean they're good, I can't lie. But it's mainly Charlie's voice that sells it, and Meghan does a great part too.
Honorable Mentions
Here are some albums I need to honorably mention:
"Illuminate" — Shawn Mendes
3. Mercy
2. There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back
1. Treat You Better
"Guts" — Olivia Rodrigo
3. Bad Idea Right?
2. Get Him Back!
1. Vampire
"▶ (Play)" — Ed Sheeran
3. Sapphire
2. Camera
1. Azizam
Thanks for reading! Let me know what you think about music in the comments.
For me, there's a huge difference between "songs" and "music", in which songs have lyrics and music is just music. Music is awesome, but adding the lyrics to make it a song is what I prefer.
Same style, key, dynamics, structure, synthesise effects, drum beat, rhythm and chord progression... it's basically the same songs...
To LuckyCat: Is that bad? Shouldn't music be more interesting than those Katy Perry songs???
To ItzIngenious: Classical music isn't all violin and piano. That's just a stereotype. There was a classical period of music, and I guess the music written then is called classical (romantic period, baroque etc). Just because Mozart played violin and harpsichord (which resembles a piano) doesn't mean that's all classical is... what about cello concertos, or flute sonatas???
To Pontiac: The bus driver did play the Country Road song of WV, but it was so annoying because he'd turned down the volume for a few minutes, but someone requested that song, so he turned the speakers up to max volume...
And, were you even asking me?!?
I would love to start the JetPunk band. I'm just a one day flight away :)
I've heard the 2 Olivia Rodrigo ones which are great, and Play which I liked.
What you like is obviously subjective but the formatting is very nice!
I listen to all of these albums except Benson's. Never got around to listen to his music. Guts and Sour are my two most played albums of all-time!
I love Olivia :D
(she just really likes Ed Sheeran)
