Explanation
In this series, I will be displaying users who you may or may not know so well, but that I think deserves more credit. This could be that the user has well made quizzes which don't have many plays, or that the user is a great person and should be recognized by more people. Whatever the case may be, I will be talking about it here. This is not an interview, as that would be a direct ripoff of baptistegorce's "Interview of a JetPunker" series, which is not my intention at all. I simply want to spotlight users who I think should be more popular. Enjoy!
Hidden Gem #7 - Lindwyrm
I have selected user Lindwyrm as my seventh entry in this series because this user makes some very impressive SVGs that unfortunately may never get noticed. However, I want to change this by highlighting their fantastic work. It's not often I find someone so dedicated to the art of SVGs, since Lindwyrm releases a new SVG almost every day (not actually). So, let me take you through the reason why Lindwyrm is my next Hidden Gem.
Lindwyrm's Best Quizzes
Lindwyrm's account has only 5,500 takes as of posting this blog. While they have only had this account for 1 year, their work feels like it should have 5 times the attention, especially with the fact that not a single one of their quizzes are Featured. With well-made SVGs and entrancing quiz visuals, this user is quite underrated, considering that most people can't even make an SVG to begin with. Now, Lindwyrm has other quizzes besides SVGs, of course. So, to spruce up the blog a bit, the last entry will not be an SVG quiz. Now, here is what I think Lindwyrm's best quizzes are.
All Possessions of the French Colonial Empire on a Map
Their All Possessions of the French Colonial Empire on a Map is their most taken quiz as of posting this blog. It has under 1,000 takes (around 800), but still has 16 nominations to show, and for good reasons. It was spotlighted, but the SVG map is well made, and is a good test of geography knowledge and history. While some things could be improved, like the color of some possessions and the shape of some ocean territories, this doesn't make the quiz any less delightful. I feel like if the quiz were to be cleaned up just this little bit, it would be all the more appealing. Either way, I think this quiz is Feature-worthy, and others seem to agree. It has a lot of potential.
Prefectures of the Japanese Empire on a Map
Prefectures of the Japanese Empire on a Map is one of, if not my favorite SVG from this user. It's visually pleasing, with even the answer boxes having a pop of color. The SVG looks amazing, and is a great challenge for geography nerds. The map displays every Prefecture of the Japanese Empire before WWII began. This removes a lot of unnecessary complications, while also being an excellent representation. There are many tiny islands, but are classified under one joint Prefecture. I would have liked to see a blue background, and maybe other countries like China and the Soviet Union (grayed out), just to add a little more perspective to the map. However, the SVG is still perfect in my opinion, and should be Featured.
U.S. States, Territories and Minor Outlying Islands on a Map
Another pretty clean SVG is their U.S. States, Territories and Minor Outlying Islands on a Map. This quiz presents the entirety of the U.S. territory, stretching from the Pacific islands in the west to the Caribbean islands in the east. The map looks great, but something that bothers me is the positioning of the boxes on the map. For the Pacific islands box, it isn't fully on the edge of the map, and a little gap shows on the left side. Same thing with the Alaska box at the top. Other than this, I really like the map, and also think it's worthy of a Feature.
This quiz, along with 4 others, was mentioned in one of Lindwyrm's own blogs here. This blog outlines the quizzes that Lindwyrm thinks are their own best quizzes. All of them are SVGs, and all of them are great. I chose this quiz in particular because Lindwyrm also chose it as their number 1 best quiz they've made recently. I also chose it because I like it myself.
While I can't put all of the other 4 quizzes in this blog, click on the link above and check them out yourself. I think all of Lindwyrm's SVGs are spectacular, and better than what I could do myself. This user has so many SVGs, so go play them all and find the ones you like! This Playlist is all of their Historical Maps, which is definitely a lot and very impressive.
SVG Honorable Mentions
While this quiz isn't really a map, it's still an SVG, while being a Click quiz. Very impressive, and overall a great test of knowledge. The only problem I have is that it overflows the screen, and I can't see a part of the SVG. If this were to be fixed, this quiz is definitely a good one to be Featured.
Another timeline quiz, this one just asks you to name the major world powers from 1500 to 2000, while giving you the visual appeal of a timeline. Again, well made (what did you except, it wasn't well made?) and gives another good geography/history challenge. A slight nit-pick I have is that the edge of the SVG shouldn't be so close to the words, and perhaps making the words a little bit bigger too. This quiz may not be as "featureable" as the one above, but is still great nonetheless.
Capitals of the Thirteen Colonies
My favorite (or one of my favorite) non-SVG quizzes that Lindwyrm has made goes to their Capitals of the Thirteen Colonies quiz. It look really nice, and is actually much harder than I thought it was going to be. There were some obscure first capitals for these colonies, and is an excellent challenge for even the biggest history nerds. However, it isn't impossible, with some capitals being well known, or just variants of larger cities today. I enjoy this quiz (maybe that's just me lol), and I think it should also be Featured. It's simple, yet not easy. Perfect.
Of course, Lindwyrm has many other great quizzes which you should check out HERE. With all the fabulous SVGs to choose from, I couldn't pick all the best ones. I did my best to find ones that were well-received by the community and had a good amount of publicity. In the end, some of these selections were quite random, but that adds to the Gem aspect of the series.
Lindwyrm's Best Blogs
Lindwyrm has only published three total blogs, all being this year (their account is only one year old, so yeah). The first of these blogs was a Badge blog being the Euro Coins Badge. It's a cute Badge, and you need to really know your Euros to be able to get it.
The next blog Lindwyrm made was a milestone blog of them reaching 1,000 quiz takes, which you should read about here. 1,000 takes is always a great feeling when you just started your JetPunk journey, and since then, Lindwyrm has grown to 5.5k takes, mainly with the help of those awesome SVGs. They are truly wonderful, and having a great SVG user in the community is always a plus.
Their most recent blog was the one I discussed briefly above, being their "Checking back in" blog, if you will. It describes their summer + future plans of quizmaking, and highlights their own quizzes which are their favorites. I'll link it again here so you don't miss any of their wonderful SVG wizardry.
Having only three blogs, they are all pretty nice!
Lindwyrm in the Community
I do not know much about Lindwyrm, but I do know that they are active in quizmaking, which is fantastic! I love playing their quizzes when I get the chance, since they actually help me learn something, usually about historical maps lol. I'm glad we have Lindwyrm in the active community.
Well, that wraps up this blog. Overall, I'm just suggesting you support this user. They make really good content that tends to go unnoticed. Not always, but sometimes. I will make more of these in the future, as I already have ideas of who I want to feature in upcoming blogs. Thanks for reading, and if you haven't clicked on those links above, do so now!
I'll fix the quizzes in the next couple of days if I have time.
Can't wait to see more in this series!
