He doesn't start looking immediately, but when he does look, the ring is in the first place he checks. What did Jon do before he looked for the ring?

Riddle #7
A dead body lies at the bottom of a multistory building. It looks as though they committed suicide by jumping from one of the floors.
When the detective arrives, she goes to the first floor of the building, opens the closed window, and flips a coin towards the floor. She goes to the second floor and does the exact same thing, continuing to do this until she arrives at the top floor of the building.
When she comes back down, the detective states that it was a murder and not a suicide. How does she know?

Riddle #10
Janice avoids the water at all costs. Though she is usually never closer than 9 or 10 kilometres from any large bodies of water, she always makes sure she has a lifejacket close at hand. Why?
Riddle #11
Vince travels a lot for work. On one occasion, he was expected to attend a conference, but instead went shopping at the mall, watched a movie, then swam at the pool. When his employer learnt of the day's activities, they were displeased, but they didn't fire Vince or punish him in any way. Why not?
Riddle #12
What has a head, a tail, but no legs, and is brown?
Riddle #13
Five criminals, Jenny, Liam, Ava, Doug, and Ethan, are being held at the police station. One of them stole the Hope Diamond. When being interrogated by the police, each of them accuses one of the others of being the thief, but Ethan, Doug and Jenny are lying. How can the police tell which person is the true thief?
Riddle #14
Four cars are approaching a narrow four-way intersection. All four cars enter the intersection at the same time, and none of them stop. However, none of the cars crash into each other. What happened?
Riddle #15
