Ranking the James Bond Opening Title Songs

+5

The Ranking

Coming in at number 25, is Die Another Day by Madonna

Die Another Day is from, ... Die Another Day, and the song is REALLY a product of its time with its whole autotune-ey sound to it, I think the lyrics are ok, but this was the only song that at the halfway point I really wanted to skip to the next one.

Number 24 Nobody Does it Better by Carly Simon

Nobody Does it Better, from The Spy Who Loved Me to me is a good song it should be a lot higher it's just that I'm not the biggest fan of the power-ballad type songs and for me that's what does it in. I think Carly Simon is great singing it I just don't like it all that much

Number 23 All Time High by Rita Coolidge

Everything I said about Nobody Does it Better applies to All Time High from Octopussy, just to a lesser extent, there's something about this one that I like a little more than Nobody Does it Better I just can't quite put my finger on it.

Number 22 No Time to Die by Billie Eilish

Let's get this straight I think this is a great song, but I've never liked Billie Eilish her music is just too breathy for me and that breathiness is definitely toned down here I just have never been the biggest fan of her

Number 21 Moonraker by Shirley Bassey

I love Shirley Bassey she's done three different Bond songs, and I think they're all great, but Moonraker to me, is a little boring I would've liked if it ramped up towards the end like in Goldfinger, but alas, it doesn't so here it lands

Number 20 For Your Eyes Only by Sheena Easton

I think this is a great song but most of it is too slow for me, other than that I really love it, and I think this more than any song below it just shows how great the rest are.

Number 19 We Have All the Time in the World by Louis Armstrong

This was a real shock to me mainly because, I don't like Louis Armstrong all that much I think is voice is too gravelly but here for some reason, maybe the lyrics mixed with his voice come together to make an almost perfect blend of a song

Number 18 Writing's on the Wall by Sam Smith

From the opening of the song, I was a little confused on where it would land on my ranking, but then I got further into the song and, it turned out pretty good, I can see how Sam Smith's voice isn't for everyone, trust me it's not really for me either. This song also felt like a Frankenstein, and by that, I mean the lyrics feel like they should in a faster rock-like song, but the singer is singing lyrics for a sad and soppy song, I think the makers of the movie said, "hey Skyfall did really well, let's do it again" and failed. I found a cover of the song by a band called SVVRS and their cover is actually better than the real deal.

Number 17 License to Kill by Gladys Knight

Almost everything about this song is perfect. I think they did a great pick for singer and the music and lyrics are fantastic, it's just a little to long for me it's the longest opening song, over five minutes, but I'm not opposed to long songs for example Stairway to Heaven, but this song is not Stairway to Heaven.

Number 16 The Living Daylights by A-ha

This song was also really great I think Dalton may have the best track record opening songs (but then again there's only to so,) This song and License to Kill where in a war in my mind on what should be ranked higher but, in the end, Living Daylights won out, I think everything about this song is great but there's other songs which I think are better.

Number 15 Another Way to Die by Jack White and Alicia Keys

For some reason the opening (which by the way is the same notes as you know my name) doesn't annoy me as much as it should, and I like Jack White, haven't listened to Alicia Keys though

14 You Only Live Twice by Nancy Sinatra

There's something about this song maybe it's the vocals or the music but I find this song so hypnotizing. I really like Nancy Sinatra's voice, and I (unlike some other songs) wouldn't mind hearing it as an instrumental that's how good it is

13 The James Bond Theme by John Barry

I mean it's the James Bond Theme this is one of the most iconic themes you can think of. I just can't put it any higher it would feel like giving someone a "skip the line pass" at a theme park. That being said, like For Your Eyes Only, I feel like this just shows how good the rest are

12 The World is Not Enough by Garbage

I love everything about this song I love the instrumental, I love the lyrics, and I love the buildup to the "the world is not enough" bit, that being said, I would prefer if it stayed louder for a bit longer

11 Tomorrow Never Dies by Sheryl Crow

Take everything, I said about The World is Not Enough and dial it up by 2 except for the lyrics in the beginning. The opening instrumental bit gets you immediately into the song.

10 Diamonds Are Forever by Shirley Bassey

Like I said with You Only Live Twice, this song feels almost hypnotic to listen to, practically everything about this song is fantastic, in fact if I were ranking on what I think is the best Bond song (again, I'm ranking on my liking) it would likely be in the top 3 definitely top 5.

9 Live and Let Die by Paul McCartney and Wings

Now we're entering the truly blow you away with the quality type songs almost everything about this is great: the buildup, the instrumental, Paul McCartney's vocals, there's just one thing holding this back, it's the middle (the "what does it matter to ya?" section" It just feels like a completely different song, then we go back to what everyone likes about it

8 Goldfinger by Shirley Bassey

Arguably the most iconic James Bond theme to date, Goldfinger was a really hard decision to make because I love absolutely everything about this song every element is absolutely perfect, although I will say it's a little loud but other than that the epitome of a Bond song

7 Skyfall by Adele

When I first listened to Skyfall, I knew that most people considered it a great song, so I started listening to it, at first, I thought "I mean it's alright definitely up there but not that good" then she sings "let the sky fall etc.) and I realized yeah this song is amazing like with Diamonds Are Forever if it was about what's the best this'd be up there. I just like other songs better

6 From Russia with Love by Matt Monro

This is the first true James Bond song, and I haven't put any of that into my ranking, I just, really like the song. There's a certain charm this song has on me that's why I've ranked it so high

5 The Man with the Golden Gun by Lulu

This song is upbeat, poppy and at least for me a joy to listen to (I've been listening to the songs as I'm writing them and this, I've been the happiest for) I can certainly see how Lulu's voice isn't for everyone, but I think everything else about the song makes up for her voice. But really this might be the funnest Bond song to listen to.

4 Goldeneye by Tina Turner

This song, to me is very confusing when I first heard it, I forgot about it afterwards, the second time, I found it annoying, the third, fourth and so one times I love it. I love Tina Turner's delivery for her vocals especially when she sings "goldeneye" everything is great, But I think three other songs do a better job of being enjoyed

3 A View to A Kill by Duran Duran

This at least to me feels very underrated I really like Duran Duran's vocals and obviously I like the whole "dance into the fire" part, the one thing holding this back is that the lyrics make no sense

2 You Know My Name by Chris Cornell

This song, like I've said before gets you hooked right away, and really holds that same hook throughout the entire song, something others haven't been able to do literally everything about this song is perfect I have no criticisms, but I just like one song more

Thunderball by Tom Jones

Pretty much everything I said about You Know My Name applies here as well just better in my opinion, I love any time he sings " so he strikes like thunder ball" and I've actually been able to hold that last note which lasts about 8-9 seconds. I love everything about this song

That was the ranking hope you enjoyed it

Skyfall is literally the only one on here that is on my playlist. But I'm biased because I absolutely love Adele. I pretty much agree with were it's ranked.

Man, I guess I didn't pay close enough attention to the No Time to Die title song. Had no idea that was Billie Eilish
