Best
Blitzkrieg Bop - Ramones - 1976
I mean what do I even need to say? This is their most iconic song, it's their debut song, it's lyrics practically became their slogan ("Hey ho! Let's go!") This is a perfect start to one of the most influential bands in history.
Commando - Leave Home - 1977
This album was the hardest for me, there were obvious choices like, Pinhead, California Sun, Commando and Gimmie Gimmie Shock Treatment, and there was one lesser known one which I though was really good: I Remember You. It was so hard to pick one that as of writing this sentence I haven't picked the answer yet! I eventually narrowed it down to two: Pinhead and Commando. After that I picked (with help from a friend) Commando. This song is just so great, when they state the rules, it feels like a drill Sargeant quizzing you. The other lyrics are just as good. I think it's deserving of the title of best Leave Home song
Rockaway Beach - Rocket to Russia - 1977
This was the first Ramones song I ever heard, so there is some bias, but I do truly believe it's better than the other contenders: Teenage Lobotomy and Sheena Is a Punk Rocker. Rockaway Beach has everything that most people think of when they hear the Ramones, it's loud fast, catchy lyrics (if you can understand what he's saying) starting off with Dee Dee's "1-2-3-4!" and just everything about it is amazing.
I Wanna Be Sedated - Road to ruin - 1978
This, Blitzkrieg Bop and one other song we'll get to in a minute are what I call "The Iconic Three" Anyone who's heard of the Ramones has herd this song, even if people haven't heard about the Ramones, they probably know the song. The lyrics are like usual: fast, hard to understand but somehow still great.
Do You Remember Rock 'N' Roll Radio? - End of the Century - 1980
Like Rockaway Beach there is some bias here, but again I think it beats out the other contender: Danny Says. This song starts off which a radio announcer announcing what you're going to be listening to (it ends this way to) The song has similar elements to Blitzkrieg Bop with the line "Rock 'n' rock 'n' roll radio! let's go" being repeated four times (just like "Hey ho! Let's Go") And every other lyric is great. The song references famous musicians like John Lennon, Murray the K. and others and overall, isgreat.
The KKK Took My Baby Away - Pleasant Dreams - 1981
This song completes "The Iconic Three" which is why it beat out my number two pick: We Want the Airwaves. It has and opening that just gets you right into the song, and then a decent shock value after the say "The KKK took my baby away" If someone was hearing this for the first time and didn't know its name, they'd likely think "What did I just here?!" and like previously mentioned the other lyrics are great.
Psycho Therapy -Subterranean Jungle - 1983
This song has a really jarring opening: police sirens. So, be careful if you plan on listening to this in the car. The song, like most Ramones songs, tell a story, this one tells the story of a "teenage schizoid" and the music video only accentuates that having the band go in and out of playing their instruments, in their usual leather jackets to them playing air instruments in hospital gowns. It's very interesting
Daytime Dilemma (Dangers of Love) Too Tough to Die - 1984
This song to me is just a really beautiful song, which a lot of Ramones songs can be and sometimes are. When Joey sings "It's the dangers, of love" that line feels so powerful due to his choice to have an almost voice crack on the words of love.
Somebody Put Something in My Drink - Animal Boy - 1986
The pure raw vocals from Joey is partly what does it for me but what really tips this over the edge of a good song to a great song is that this is a true story about Richie Ramone accidentally receiving a drink spiked with LSD.
Bye Bye Baby -Halfway to Sanity - 1987
Halfway to Sanity to me is the most middle of the road album on one hand you have amazing songs like Bye Bye Baby and I Wanna Live and on the other hand you have Worm Man. This was another hard one between I Wanna Live and Bye Bye Baby, in the end I went with Bye Bye Baby because it's just a really beautiful song, it's their longest at 4:45, but I think the length benefits the song making it that much more memorable.
Pet Sematary - Brain Drain - 1989
Again, another hard one between Pet Sematary, and Merry Christmas (I Don't Want to Fight Tonight) but I ended up going with Pet Sematary. Pet Sematary was based on the Stephen King novel of the same name and was used in the Pet Sematary movie, which Stephen King wanted! Yeah, apparently King was a huge Ramones fan! As the story goes, King gives Dee Dee a copy of the book, Dee Dee goes down to the basement, and an hour later comes out with the song we all know and love. But that was just the background the actual song itself is another amazing song, I don't know how faithful it is to the book as I haven't read it.
Poison Heart - Mondo Bizarro - 1992
Poison Heart is actually one of the Ramones' best songs but the sad thing about it is not many people like Mondo Bizarro so any new fans may be unlikely to even hear about it (which was the case for me.) But besides that, it's still amazing the lyrics are kind of haunting but in a good way and I just love the way Joey pronounces almost every word differently for the line "You know that life, really takes its toll"
Like I said, Acid Eaters has been disqualified but if I had to I'd say it's their cover of Have You Ever Seen the Rain?
I Don't Want to Grow Up - ¡Adios Amigos! - 1995
I know I was trying not to put cover songs on my list but if I didn't put I Don't Want to Grow Up as the best song for ¡Adios Amigos! Joey, Johnny, Dee Dee and Tommy would all rise from their graves to correct my mistake. I Don't Want to Grow Up is one of two songs that actually makes me sad the other is Questioningly. What really does it in for me is the last lines of the song "Fall in love, get married then boom, how the hell did I get here so soon? No, I don't want to grow up" That last line just sticks with you, what makes it sadder is that the one singing, Joey, didn't really grow up, dying six years later.
That was in my opinion the best song on each Ramones album
