Was Childs a Thing?

First, for some context, at the end of The Thing MacReady and Childs are the only two left, but it's left ambiguous as to whether or not Childs was infected by the thing as Childs disappeared earlier. And some very quick ground rules on the thing, when a thing fully assimilates someone, they copy every feature of that person, if the thing copied someone with a heart disease, the thing would also have that heart disease, they only thing it can't copy is inorganic materials such as clothes, or piercings.

Let's go about this as if we were in court, let's say we're trying to prove Childs innocent, or in this case human. Let's start with the easiest thing to debunk: the gasoline theory. There's a theory that the bottle of alcohol MacReady gives to Childs, was actually filled with gasoline and that's why MacReady laughs when Childs drinks it. First off, we see MacReady about to drink from the bottle BEFORE he hears Childs behind him, second, there's nothing saying that a thing would or wouldn't react to something like gasoline in it's body, but I assume it would, as the thing copies every aspect of a person including, like mentioned previously, heart conditions, as shown with Norris. The next theory is the eye gleam, the theory states that during the blood test seen, every person has light refelcted in their eyes except one: Palmer, who turned out to be a thing, and you can't light in Childs' eyes therefore he's a thing. Nice theory, the only problem is that the eye gleam was only used for that scene, the Bennings-thing has light reflecting in it's eyes, so does the Norris-thing. Plus, you can see a reflection in his eye, it's hard to tell but it was there. Sort of in tandem with that theory is that you can't see his breath, you can. Plus, that doesn't matter. The real challenge comes in his coat as he's wearing a different one, and the coat rack that Childs was near, has different coats than before. Now, for the fact that it's a different coat, it's hard to tell if it is as the light is behind him making it hard to tell what color his coat really is, but the main thing is the different coats on the rack. This, this one you can't really explain away, the closest you could get is, maybe Childs took of the coat, and then when he thought the saw Blair, he put a different one back on but that's a stretch. I think the only answer for this one is a continuity error, now, I've heard some people say that every shot in this movie is important, it can't be a continuity error, but I hate to break it to you, movies have mistakes. Even really good ones, take The Shining for example the layout of the Overlook is constantly changing, and a chair just disappears in between shots. Even The Thing has mistakes, when the Palmer-thing jumps on the ceiling, part of the ceiling breaks of and falls up, showing it was filmed upside down. Oh, and by the way you can see Childs' earring so, yeah, he has to be human.
