The History of Bird Game
Back in the good ol' days of gaming, the legendary XBOX 50 stood above the rest as the console of all time. The first two Bird Games were released in the early 2000s as small, PvP/RPG-based games developed by a niche company with few players. They had short campaigns and ultimately limited playstyles.
Fast forward to 2010, and the hype around Bird Game 3 started to take off after the controversial shutdown of the Bird Game 2 servers. People were longing for the fast-paced, beak-on-beak action they had gotten from the previous games, and some camped out GameStop for days just to get a peek at the game demo. This was some "Halo 3 midnight release" esque activity going on, and the buildup was incredible.
Release Day
When the game was released, the servers exploded. Players logged in from all over the world, joining Flocks, building nests; it was truly magnificent. The game spiked at over 52k players online at once. This might seem like average numbers nowadays, but back then, it was record-breaking. I remember for me personally, it was pure nostalgia- and my friends and I were loaded up on Doritos, Mountain Dew, and the will to be the greatest bird in the server. I had no idea I was genuinely living the best years of my life.
Popularity was drawn to the game by celebreties as well:
American Rapper/Songwriter Kanye West famously started a Flock called "The College Flockouts" that gained massive popularity when they took down a Cosmic Phoenix in a world event.
Actor Brad Pitt reportedly mained Hummingbird, leading to massive online controversies regarding his choice.
Even American President Barack Obama owned over half the roster and was often seen playing the game in the White House after Mrs. Obama went to bed.
Gameplay
So... what is Bird Game 3 then?
Bird Game 3 is a PVP-based flight simulator in which you control a variety of birds and try and steal eggs from other players' nests. But this game is REVOLUTIONARY because it added the addition of Flocks, group flights, and improved Bird on Bird action forever.
Players can fly at certain speeds, peck with a certain range, damage, and pace, all based on the type of Bird you chose! The great part is, there is a ton of variety in gameplay and style! Flightless birds may control the ground with their high damage, but if a Robin comes in from the sky, the tides turn, FAST!
There are numerous maps, all with hundreds of players active at once. The simple gameplay allows for the game to run smoothly with that many players at once. Maps like Valley, Jurassic, and Wilting Woods brought natural beauty for slow-paced players, and large-scale maps like City Skyline, Mountaintop Climb, and Twin Peaks allowed for fast-paced competitive action.
The character roster included over a hundred different species of birds to choose from, giving variety in both gameplay and cosmetics. Every bird played differently, and THAT was what set this game apart- The Puffin wasn't a reskin of the seagull... it was an entirely new bird with its own mechanics, skins, and combos. The sheer scale of the game itself made every encounter feel unique- A matchup between a pelican and a shoebill went MUCH differently than between a shoebill and a pigeon.
That made all the difference...
Tips for New Players
So now you want the game right? Heres how to get started, and what I learned from my personal journey!
1: You start with Pigeon. I can't lie, I personally think he sucks, but some people really like him. From here, steal a few eggs with him and get the DELUXE CRATE. It's gonna be tempting to get the common crates, but the Deluxe Crate Guarantees both a new bird AND a skin.
2: Do not try and Nest Wipe! You might see clips online of supposed "1v3 Nest Wipe!" and such. This is pretty rare, and if you try it they're gonna call on their entire flock to gang up on you.
3: JOIN A FLOCK! I cannot stress enough how important it is for New Players to join a flock! Joining a flock allows you to join with friends and flock-mates in servers, taking down world events, over-leveled players, and even each other if you want to partake in a friendly battle!
4: Don't gun it for world events. These are often targeted to midladder players looking for easy kills, DON'T BE ONE OF THEM!
5: Don't play hummingbird. It's scummy. He's a stupid little prick who has a million exploits and does tiny chip damage with the smallest hitbox ever. This is kinda an opinion, but its factually correct I believe.
My Final Thoughts
Whether you play Shoebill, Seagull, Pigeon, Eagle, Owl, Hawk, Penguin, Kiwi, Puffin, Robin, or even the dreaded Opium Bird, you WILL have fun playing this game.
I personally main Blue Jay, his decent speed combined with his "Lightning Wing" Ultimate gives him high damage and speed for a tradeoff of armor and stamina, but I find him fun!
There are some good DLCs I would reccomend if you want to spend money on the game, this is optional though.
Prehistoric DLC: This gives the Pteradactyl (idk how to spell wtvr) which is a crazy powerful new character. His range is insane and aside from his huge hitbox, he doesn't have many flaws. You also get two deluxe crates and some skins.
Extinction DLC: Gives the DoDo bird, which is a very good baseline bird with VERY high damage. Also gives the Passenger Pigeon, which is a super-skilled bird but has insane results when you get good with it.
Rising Ashes DLC: Basically pay to win, but it gives the Phoenix Bird and multiple cosmic skins. This DLC was met with extreme controversy as many players wanted Phoenix to stay rare. Now anyone with a credit card can get one.
