How a Tik-Toker made one of the Best Albums I've ever heard...

Introduction

One day around the first months of 2024, I saw a video of a TikToker named Micah Dailey-White known for his hilarious 6-second TikToks. This video, however, was different from the others; it was a promotion for a single he had released called One on One. At first I thought it was a joke but then I realized it was actually a song and that it was pretty good too.

The song kind of went viral and as of April 19th it has 8.24 million streams. This song was the way for Micah, with more than 1.5M followers, to release his most ambitious project in his career: Micah. A full length pop/electronic album released on June 18, 2024.

This was one of the few times I listened to an album on the day it was released and I loved it. From the first time I heard it I knew it was full of bangers and that it was an album I was going to listen to for a long time. Let's now go through each song and talk about the content in it.

Cold.

The first track on this album is "Cold." a song with a duration of 1:27 that serves as a brief introduction to the album's vibe, with several hooks that make this song a way to know what to expect in this album. Like most of the album, Cold talks about Micah's love for someone. This can be evidenced by the verse "Like the snow, I feel so slow for you".

Micah's most recognizable elements are present in this song: Micah's deep voice that intensifies in the chorus, the interesting drums or the melodies that makes their presence on some verses are some elements that are gonna be repeated in most of the songs.

Desire.

"Desire." It is the second track on this album and is also the second most listened to, with more than a million plays on Spotify. Desire has a repeating synth beat throughout the song reminiscent of songs like Surf Curse's "Freaks". In my opinion, it's the perfect song to play after Cold since the vibes are similar. Its short duration, like Cold, of 2:11 is enough to make the constant melody throughout the song stay in your head for a long time.

Freaks.

The third track is a twist from the previous two which had a darker vibe. Freaks has a disco style with a very catchy guitar riff and an organ on the back that complements Micah's voice very well. Speaking of which, Micah's voice takes on a higher pitched tone and the length of the song is longer than the previous ones at 3:01. All of these characteristics make Freaks one of the most unique and enjoyable songs on the album.

Lust.

If you thought the dark style was over, the fourth track on the album is the darkest one in the album. With a distorted guitar that reminds us of bands like Deftones and his heartbreaking voice that takes on a shuddering style thanks to the reverb. At first, this song may not seem very appealing but after listening to the album multiple times I think despite being one of my least favorite it's a good addition to the album.

Midnight Walker.

The fifth track is my favorite of the whole album, you can tell it's different from the others from the intro. Of the 5 tracks you can tell that this one is the most worked lyrically. What I like most about this song is the style it has which sounds like a song that would be a radio hit. This song gives you a feeling of nostalgia for some reason with its rhythm reminiscent of Latin American bachata and a melody after the chorus that sounds soothing. It is truly a song I would like to listen to on a rainy car ride.

Crush.

Already halfway through, the sixth track called Crush is a fun song that reminds me a lot of Pharrell Williams both for the vocals and the production. It is a danceable song with a short duration of 1:53 but I like it for its great variety of sounds throughout the track. Definitely a song that could appear in any illumination movie.

On.

The seventh track like Midnight Walker gives you a nostalgic feeling that, at least to me, reminds me of the beach and the sound of the waves. On is a song that is quite worked and with a good production. Micah's voice provokes a desolate feeling that gives me mixed feelings as the song goes on.

I Love You Like I Love A Pop Song.

The eighth track is one that has definitely grown on me, I Love You Like I Love A Pop Song at first didn't catch my attention so much but then I ended up realizing that it's a song with a catchy chorus and unique vocal elements from the album that at first feels a little dark in a sense but in the chorus develops Micah's loving feelings in a lyrically perfect way.

Self-Destructive.

The ninth track is one with very clear intentions, as its duration of 1:44 makes it a song that feels quite short in contrast to the previous ones. Because of this Self-Destructive is unique as it only has an intro, a bridge and a chorus. It is enough to immerse yourself in the darkness of the song and the emotion that Micah's voice has in the chorus.

Why Do You Take Me So Serious?

The tenth track of the album is one of my favorites because of the varied amount of elements it contains during the song. The main guitar melody is quite catchy and complements Micah's voice very well. The sounds add a lot to the song, especially the ones after the chorus. I personally think it's a song that fits perfectly with the vibe of the album so far and is a song that touches your heart.

One On One.

Let's finally talk about the eleventh track, the best known and the one that made this album practically a success. One On One has a variety of unique elements such as its very catchy chorus reminiscent of #1 radio hits. This is the only song that includes a feature, with Headband Henny doing a spectacular job with his lyrics that add a nice touch to the song and makes you notice the difference with the predecessors. One on One is one of those songs that you like the first time you hear it and reminds you of the great artists in the industry in terms of production and lyrics. Definitely an excellent song that I'm glad it has gone viral in a way.

Paranoid.

Finally, the twelfth track Paranoid and what a great way to end the album. An upbeat song that reminds me of Michael Jackson for the way he sings and for the funky sound of the guitar. Paranoid is a different song in lyrical terms due to the subtlety of the voice away from the main music and the overlapping of the voices in the chorus that create a unique and happy atmosphere. A good way to end an album that started in a dark way but developed as it progressed.

My Ranking

1. Midnight Walker.
2. One On One.
3. Freaks.
4. Desire.
5. Cold.
6. Why Do You Take Me So Serious?
7. Paranoid.
8. On.
9. Self-Destructive.
10. Crush.
11. I Love You Like I Love A Pop Song.
12. Lust.

Conclusion

In conclusion, this album is one of the best albums of... What genre? Indie Pop? Alternative rock? Dream Pop? Disco? Nobody knows, that's one of Micah's qualities, his great variety of genres and tracks he can create on his own. This is an album that I wish you could listen to because despite the amount of tracks that seems quite a lot, the short length of some of them make this an album that you can listen to in just over half an hour. If you like it you can also check out his new single Voodoo, one of my favorite Micah songs because of the uniqueness of its content. Thanks for reading my review of this album and leave a like or comment if you liked the blog.
