Denmark
I have visited Denmark so many times it's hard to count. I tried, but the fingers run out each time and people get angry when I try to borrow theirs. A whole lot of it was because the place was on my work route. Some of it was because of going there to have a good time, Danish style. No, not hygge. The other thing.
And then, I learned that I had not. Apparently there is the Copenhagen and there is the Denmark. I have only seen the Copenhagen. Back, forth, sideways and upside down. Coming and going. Good times.
Yet, it is safe to say the capital has learned some of those Danish habits from the others and is keeping it real like a white suburban kid in harem pants blasting Vanilla Ice. They have mastered the skill of weekend binge drinking. They are cordial, but socially territorial. They pronounce fifty like it's "half third" instead of "half third times twenty". They're bling-bling legit. Also, they can appreciate metal music like all smart and cool people.
Denmark is notably green. Even the capital. In case you wish to have a whiff of nature, all you need is a few minutes stroll in almost any direction. It's pleasant. Except in the winter. In the winter it's ... yeah.
The Judgment:
Denmark is very expensive. Not quite in the European top3, but breathing heavily right behind. Where necessary, you may wish to stay on the Swedish and German side and do day trips from there. With some places, you cannot do that. Either way, you tend to get bang for the buck. Danish quality with most things is pretty high. The visit tends to be pleasant with the nature and cities blending, people being at least rather polite, even if not all that warm and accepting. The country is very safe unless you end up in the middle of a freak accident/incident and it's well suited for solo travel as long as you've got that heavy wallet on you. Children will find joy in places such as Tivoli (Gardens) in Copenhagen and, really, there's something for people of any age. The place is well organized and you can generally trust things will hold as promised. Compared to most places, Denmark is very peaceful. It's also well connected and easy to add on your route whether you utilize air, land or water. If you're obsessed with Lego, you probably have to go there. In my books it's worth a visit. Just... don't walk there over the ice in case you're Swedish.
Would I go again? Yes.
It was beautiful, especially the public transport was amazing! There are the driverless metros that run every 2-3 minutes on the main routes and there is the extensive S-tog network connecting the outskirts with the city centre.
The Little Mermaid wasn‘t that impressive but that castle island shown in the fifth picture was absolutely gorgeous!
And yes, you are right, it‘s quite expensive.
Can't wait to see what you come up with for England!
Is the train on a ferry thing still happening? I thought there's only one "train-ferry" left in Europe (in Italy). Maybe I've been lied to, who knows.
From North America.
As one does.
But seriously, though... Denmark is evidently calling you. You should go, if you can.
