Geography Snap Game

In this geographical game of Snap, match together your choice of countries, capitals, biggest cities, flags, shapes or flag-shapes to each other, in any combination you wish.
There are 3 different possible board sizes, each including progressively harder items. How fast can you match them all correctly and clear the board?
Select all the categories you wish to include and then press play! You will then be shown pairs of tiles which need to be matched together.

Hey ! I wanna know something I noticed on the leaderboards. Let's say that a player got a time of 5.0s in whatever category. And later, another player also get a time of 5.0s. Well, this player will be placed either first or second, even if the two did the same time. Why does this happen ?

If they have the exact same time, then we prioritise the newest score so that the leaderboard keeps changing!

I’m not sure if it’s just me but I’m having to click multiple times for it to register 1 click. I’ve played this a lot but it seems less sensitive to the touch. Anyone else experiencing this?

Yikes! I was just doing capitals and flags, and couldn't remember Astana. Then it dawned on me that was the previously name for Nur-Sultan! Also, nice that you changed Ukraine's capital to Kyiv.

It’s interesting because now the capital for Kazakhstan has changed back to Astana. Is this a glitch as I thought the capital changed its name to Nur Sultan?

The Wikipedia article for Astana states that it was called Nur-Sultan and then reverted just last week :)

In September 2022, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev announced that the city would revert to the former name Astana. On 17 September, he signed a law that amended the constitution to restore the name Astana.

On mobile, some users have found ways to perfect their timings and their image recognition. The average reaction time is about 200ms for visual stimulus, if you practice a lot, then get 10 matches would equate to 2 seconds of reaction time.

I noticed that the flag used for Peru is the common flag, with no coat of arms, but that the flag used for the country shape of Peru with the flag overlaid on it is the state flag, which does use the coat of arms. I'm not sure if this is intentional but I feel like for the purposes of this minigame, this should be changed to be consistent.

@Stewart. I'm continuing to see a lag in the time between the time the last match is made and the time that is recorded for game completion, anywhere from 1 to 2 tenths of a second. Is this something others have reported?

It happens to me a lot, I guess it's because of the difference between the actual time and the one that is shown. If you record a game of Snap and you slow it down, you may see the timer jump by 0.2s within a game

We update the timer frequently, but if the computer lags a bit then the displayed timer is inaccurate, and updating it any more frequently would only cause more lag.

The time used for your score is the real time taken, regardless of lag.

You probably changed gamemodes. Each permutation of categories and difficulty stores time differently; ie Countries and Flags Easy will have a different time stored than Countries and Flags Hard which will have a different time stores than Countries and Shapes Hard, etc

So I was reading back through the comments and noticed a lot of people talking about cheating. Really in all honestly rather than assuming those with super fast times are manipulating the clock you should actually feel sorry for us for the sheer amount of hours we have put into a game (or at least I have). Currently I have matched 1,132,830 tiles. If I were only playing the hard modes (which I play all modes) that would equate to roughly 28,000 games. Not to mention the games that I start and then quit and start over because I wasn't matching fast enough. There's also something to be said for the device you use. I originally started on an old iphone with a smaller screen which meant I had to scroll up and down to see all the tiles in hard and medium mode. I remember being excited for times that were 40 seconds slower than the top all time scores.

Now, I play on a tablet which makes all the difference (for me at least.) So I guess I just wanted to say rather than getting frustrated (which I have been many times after popping up on the top all time and checking in and hour or two later only to be booted off) and assuming the worst of people, try celebrating with us that all these hours spent clicking away were not for nothing. Anyway, just my thoughts, take it or leave it.
