These are the most-nominated quizzes by users on our site. Each week, we will make a good-faith effort to feature the quiz that has been nominated the most times.
The Quizmaster exercises the right to choose a quiz other than the winner.
We may feature more than one quiz per week. However, secondary quizzes will be chosen based on creativity and not on number of nominations.
Nominations will carry over week-to-week.
Quizzes must have at least 3 questions and cannot be private.
Starting July 23, 2022: Quizzes must have at most 100 questions, a title less than 70 characters, and less than 500 characters total in the description and caveats (excluding HTML).
@ABritishCat: Six months later, now you have not one, not two but THREE quizzes on the nominations board!!! And all three have more nominations than my only quiz on there and most likely my only quiz that will ever be on there, and now it’s starting to fall down the board. So who’s the failure now?
JetPunk isn't just about making quizzes to get features and takes. But if you are looking only at that category, I am the real failure. Anytime that anyone is feeling down on their quizmaking, just know two things:
1. Like most things JetPunk is about the experience. You will earn most of your joy from interacting with the community and/or making blogs. If not, your joy in quizmaking should come from the response and process, not from the takes, nominations, features, etc.
2. I have been on JetPunk since 2016, the same year that Stewart began. I created an account in September of 2020, and began to make quizzes the next month. I have about 70 quizzes, over 10 of which are SVG's that I spent a while either coding or making from scratch in text editor. One of these took months. Even so, I have less than 5,000 takes.
Do I consider myself a failure? No. As said above, this is strictly for the takes and features category, and I enjoy the other portions of JetPunk much better. :)
In all seriousness, though, I don't really care if one of my quizzes gets featured. If it happens, then I'd be excited for sure, but I never actually expect it to happen.
And congrats to Neil and Pandora for their first features!
I think that votes should reset maybe every 2 months, because new quizzes will have nearly no chance of making the top of the list no matter how good they're...
That's true... or a solution might be a way that the nominated quizzes can be better advertised to the general population of JetPunk? I feel like people need to see the quizzes that are on the list and be more inclined to nominate. Maybe show how many nominations a quiz has?
Thank you for this option. There are great quizzes that don't get the attention because they aren't featured. Hopefully it doesn't become a time consuming addition for the site administrators to the point they dread it.
I think it might actually help them. They dont have to delve through all the quizzes and decide which ones to features this week, but instead, just look at what "the people" have decided. Initially setting it up might have taken some work though. But once it gets going
True, also the quizzes getting featured via nomination these days have had a few months to accumulate nominations. Previously, they just had a few weeks or days
We've featured over 95% of the quizzes that have reached #1. But if some quiz like "Why My Political Party is Right, and Yours is Wrong" gets nominated, we'll put the kibosh on it.
And why not a quiz like "Topological Map of the World"? Seems like a pretty good-faith quiz to me (especially considering that you featured a different, but similar version).
I emailed the user about that and we agreed to create the featured version instead. One problem we are seeing is that highly technical quizzes get a lot of nominations, but few takes. That quiz was an extreme example, with 70 nominations and only 170 takes.
https://www.jetpunk.com/user-quizzes/216303/250-biggest-cities-in-europe What happened to this quiz? #1 by a large margin, now it's taken down for the entire list despite having 73 nominations, while the "winner" has 10 less.
This week we did 5. I'm going to try to feature more of these. It comes down to how much work it requires from me.
Sometimes, quizzes with obvious flaws get to the top of the list. This often requires me to do a lot of work to fix the quiz. In which case, I'll have less time to feature other quizzes.
This week, 4/5 quizzes required absolutely no work from me.
Wait, you make the changes yourself? IMO I would've asked the quiz makers to do it themselves, especially since I've seen a couple of quizzes on some of the other pages that definitely need some updates.
Sometimes we do, but often it's quicker to do it ourselves. Especially when some of the quizzes are from users who are not as active on the site anymore.
That is an incredible amount that would require an equal amount of work from QM/Stewart to make happen. And considering that a current advantage of JetPunk is that there aren't many moderators and site managers to become dependent on, receiving more help seems like a problem. Instead, quizzes should now require 4 nominations to be on the pages.
Seriously Neil give QM time to actually deal with them. It takes time to fix up and feature quizzes as needed. It's been barely 40 minutes since the first one was featured, don't be so impatient.
A question - what would happen if a user got the most nominations at the end of the week but another user had already made the same quiz before them (which had fewer nominations)? Whose quiz would get featured?
I have wondered this myself. If the other user is inactive, I believe the winning quiz would be featured. If the quizzes are identical though and the other user is active, then I guess the Quizmaster would have to make a judgement call on it.
I ask the same question. 3 was a bit disappointing, but 1 is just ...yeah. Maybe the amount of work required to feature quizzes was a lot this week, I don't know. I hope that this isn't the new normal.
Also, that quiz, as well as my two most-nominated quizzes currently (with 53 and 45) don’t have 100 questions as such, but rather over 100 answers, much in the same way as the Countries of the World quiz etc.
And finally, does this, therefore, also mean that quizzes which have already received nominations (including this one, which is, at the time of writing, on page 1) cannot receive further nominations?
I can understand the logistics behind the character limits, but a maximum of 100 questions/answers seems needlessly restrictive, so might you review this?
what does it mean by "8/10 nominations left"? do my limited nominations reset monthly or do i only have 10 available nominations for my entire account?
The nomination system needs reform, it feels like its always the same quizzes stuck up there. Seems impossible for any new quiz, unless they are exceptionally good, to get anywhere near the first page in quick time. It also doesn't help that only 1 quiz is featured per week (Only 1 secondary quiz has been featured this year). There are some phenomenal quizzes on there and it would be nice to see a few more featured to give some quizzes lower down a little more chance. I understand featuring more quizzes via the nomination system can be time consuming but maybe we could put in place a collaboration between the quiz creator (provided they are active) and the QM to ensure a smooth transition to a featured quiz. I also think something needs to be done about the number of nominations required to get to the top. It is wayyyyy too high. The last quiz to get featured via nominations that didnt require 100+ nominations was in June 2021! This seems a little unfair as you need 60 nominations 1.
to get onto the first page! There are so many fantastic map quizzes and creative ideas that users have likely spent hours working on that will likely go unrecognised simply because they are way too far down the list and the number of nominated features per week doesn't allow for these quizzes to get a special mention. I would suggest a further inspection at quizzes around the 50-100 mark to see if any of them are worth a special feature. I think having 10 nominations a week is good as it is but why not let us see who is nominating? That way, users can report fake nominations and creators can see who appreciates their quiz. If someone see for example that a quiz user in the Top 50 ranking has nominated one of their quizzes, that could both motivate them to make more and also highlight to other users that their quiz is highly respected. I also believe that the quizzes on the list should be categorised (i.e. Map, Click, Multiple Choice) to make it appear much cleaner on the page as it 2.
can seem difficult to navigate. Also, I would suggest increasing the number of nominations required to make the list as there isn't really a need for 31 pages of quizzes on the list. Another suggestion is for maybe 1 nomination a week to count as a Supernomination of sorts (similar to Spotlight) so if a quiz is really loved/liked by someone, then they can give it a Supernomination which counts as say 3 normal nominations (maybe a separate monthly winner for supernominations or a biannual winner for the most Spotlights). To prevent boosting your own quizzes, you wouldn't be able to give a supernomination to your own account or any affiliated accounts and you would only be permitted at a higher level (30, 40 or 50 like Spotlight) and only one every week/fortnight/month. Maybe these ideas aren't right but I have always liked the nomination system and as someone who succeeded via the nominations (twice) in the early days of its implementation. Please note I am not trying to boost my quiz 3
takes or nominations because a) I have nearly 2 m takes already so I've achieved plenty already and b) my most nominated is stuck at 33 nominations so will not be drastically affected by my proposals. Maybe these ideas are terrible but I hope someone will take them on board as I love the site (having used it for 7 years) and want to see it thrive.
I agree with this, the nominations board was at its best during the first couple of months, and now suffers from congestion. There just isn't much room for discoverability, and even a good quiz can expect to take years to reach the top of the nominations board (the 20 top quizzes on the board, or in theory the 20 quizzes to be featured over the next 5 months are all from before the nominations board was even launched). Quizzes being old also makes them more susceptible to errors or out-of-date data, especially if the user in question is no longer active. Reform will help to make the nominations board more streamlined and promote more growth and innovation in quizzes, until then the user spotlight is a more attainable incentive for quizmakers.
Aight so having heard about nom board problems in my finite wisdom have some ideas:
Quizzes with >150 nominations or something should be paused in nominations, and immediately sent to review. Stops people from wasting noms on them, when thats really just a competiton of who gets nommed first.
Next, and this is my main point: Every time the page is refreshed 10 random quizzes on a page that is not page 1 will show up to the side, allowing people to see lower nomed ez-er

It's not like I have a 22 nomination quiz up here...I'm not complaining either since we have a quiz that's been in the top 80 on this list for months and is very slowly creeping upwardIsn't it a coincidence that the two most nominated quizzes are both to do with Slavic peopleWhat’s the deal with this? By these criteria, the only quiz I’ve had featured via Nominations wouldn’t have been eligible.

Also the change is not retrospective. Only new quizzes made have the change applied to them.
