Excuse my European moaning, but I was a child of the sixties and remain unaware of three of these.

I'm a child of the 2000s, and I just got 10/20 on the 2000s Celebrities by Picture #1. You should be happy with your three misses, lol.

Not sure what it says about me but I'm in my late 30s and this was by far the easiest celebrity quiz, I've taken on Jet Punk.

Well, technically he's still not a 100 a year and half later. He's 101 now.

No, but I didn't say that he was still 100, just that he was still around. Which, of course, he no longer is, having passed away in February 2020 at the age of 103.

Yeah. She died in 1962, so she didn't see much of the '60s. But then, neither did JFK, as he was assassinated a year later.

No, but Kennedy's Presidency was entirely within the '60s, so I think that's fair.

I am most troubled that ONLY 39% of test takers recognized Peter Sellers! I mean the language of film is supposedly universal, and Sellers was genius on a level with Chaplin. If you can recognize every Kardashian, but not Peter Sellers: check yourself!

Give me a break, man. Peter Sellers died almost 40 years ago. He was great, but these days you have to go out of your way to watch one his films. Meanwhile you can't pass a news stand without seeing a celebrity magazine with a Kardashian on the cover. Is it really so shocking?

JWC was troubled, not shocked. I'm neither troubled nor shocked. Sellers was great though, Dr. Strangelove is one of the best. I used to die laughing at at the Pink Panther films as well.

Wouldn't recognise Kardashian if I tripped over him/her. But Sellers I'd watch or listen to any day. Hilarious in both the Goons and the Pink Panther series.

Well said. I get tired of these comments of 'can't believe only xx% knew this person/fact/band etc.' Meanwhile I'm running rings round them on facts we were both alive for yet they somehow missed.....yet I don't ridicule them for it.

I remembered him; just couldn't think of his name. I love his character in the Pink Panther movies and kept thinking "Clouseau, what was Clouseau's first name"? Peter Sellers, though not an uncommon name, doesn't easily roll off my tongue.

He's the one I missed. I know his name and a few of his movies but don't recognize his face. If it makes you feel any better, I also am not confident I could sort out all of the Kardashians.

JWC1202: I got Sellers this time around. Couldn't remember his name on my previous attempt. Knew him as the lead actor in the Pink Panther movies, but always confused him with Peter O'Toole (don't know why, the look nothing alike). Anyway, now I've got him and I won't forget again. Great actor by the way!

It's down to 27% according to latest stats. Clouseau and The Goon Show are iconic. So yes, it is at least 'surprising' that recognition is so low.

Wait, how did more people know Yoko Ono than John Lennon. How is that possible!
+1
Level 67
Nov 14, 2018
Probably just because of the picture of Lennon they used. The long hair and beard obscure his face somewhat, and even though no phase of John Lennon could fairly be called obscure, I think this phase is much less recognizable than the Beatlemania phase. I'd wager that if the quiz included a picture of early 60's mop-top Lennon, more people would recognize him.

Who is Andy Griffith?

I swear I'm not just being snarky by saying this, but in the '60s he was most well known as the star of The Andy Griffith Show. It was consistently one of the highest-rated shows on American TV from 1960-68, and is almost always on lists of best US TV shows ever (sitcoms, especially).

The show was always one of my favorites and is still shown in syndication. Ron Howard got his start playing Andy's son, Opie. Andy Griffith was multi-talented. He did comedy, sang, did movies - A Face in the Crowd made him famous - and he was twice nominated for a Tony award.
