I very rarely wear sandals, and when I do I almost always wear with socks, because that is how I like to wear them, when I do wear them, which is nowhere near often.
I must reply to say... Ditto. :D After looking at the answers I missed seeing "flip flop" I thought, huh, I don't recall seeing a clue that would have that answer, must have missed it. D'oh.
Got everything except Star Trek. Was trying to think of something more nerdily esoteric like.. phased photon field or dilithium sphere or some such gibberish. i guess that's more TNG than TOS. Didn't think of the simple answer.
the clue and the accepted answer are unbelievably vague. other F alliterations that would fit: Fish Frenzy, Fish Feast, Freak Feast, and even Fast Food
Yes, but "feeding frenzy" is a real, fairly common phrase, which none of your examples are (except for "fast food," but that doesn't have close to the same meaning.)
If we want to get really petty, British chips are different from 'fries'. Much larger. But calling the stringy little things 'fries' just sounds a bit wrong so they tend to get called 'chips', so it's a reasonable answer.
Not to be nitpicky but no way would/should that be considered Tom Petty's signature song. Probably in the top five, but if he's only remembered for one song it would be American Girl.
I don't think I'd call 'Free Fallin' Tom Petty's "signature song." Yes, it was a big hit for him, but there isn't really any ONE song that people automatically think of from his repertoire. If you do a search, it seems that everybody has their own distinct list of favorites. And, if you were to go by sales, the top selling song of his career was his duet with Stevie Nicks: Stop Dragging My Heart Around.
My two cents worth - As a guitar player, I have exactly two Tom Petty songs in my repertoire: Free Fallin', and Last Dance with Mary Jane. I think you could make a strong case for either of those being a "signature song," especially considering the amazing music video for the latter. Since only one of those songs is alliterative, however, I think the clue works.
I obviously don't know a lot about music after the '70s or NASCAR. I confused Tom Petty with Richard Petty and I was trying to think of a signature song they might play for Petty when he won a race. Only one I missed. Sigh.
I know it's a common and popular meme, the thing about freedom fighters and terrorists, and so it works as a clue, but it's also a very incorrect meme. Terrorists specifically and intentionally target random civilians or public property without real strategic value in order to instill fear in the general public and get them to, out of fear, put pressure on leaders to change policy. Freedom fighters can stage a guerilla war where they only target legitimate military targets to slowly wear down a superior adversary or occupying power's will or capacity to fight, going after military hardware and personnel and strategically important infrastructure while never targeting civilians, and never accurately be called terrorists.
Though I'm sure their and their supporters' justification could be that they would think themselves freedom fighters, hence I think the clue is fine that way round?
I said the clue was fine, I'm just commenting on the idea behind the cliche (that these terms are interchangeable aside from connotation and mean the same thing) which in my opinion is incorrect. Terrorism is not just a bad word we apply to people we don't like, it is a specific tactic of targeting random civilians.
I will not make a big deal of that but I am sure many trekkies will set Phasers to Kill upon hearing the Force Fields clue.
A Force Field is what keeps a ship in one piece when hull is broken, or what allows containment of a certain section, place, person or alien lifeforms. The exterior defence against energy weapons or torpedoes is not usually called Force Field, although I cannot say for sure it is never used in such context.
But its purpose is to absorb "Energy" and not block kinematic forces as a blind stopper which is the thematic Force Field in classic scyfy.
However you can redeem yourself in other alliterations by including "Deflector Dish" or "Will Wheaton" or "Admiral Akbar" (joke)
Expected a type of discount to make the list, though.
Thinking it might be hair for Farrah, not hear.
