Um, you do realize that Glacier National Park is also a Canadian National Park as well? One of two (along with Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park) shared national parks between Canada and the US, Glacier NP is, in addition to being very beautiful, a very bright example of cooperation and friendship among two nations.
Also happens to be one of the few (possibly only) place in the world where you can actually walk on the Earth's mantle. It's very important geologically, because of the exposed mantle as well as deep ocean crust.
17/22 items on the Americas quiz have a direct or somewhat indirect link to one nation. It is not exactly an "Americas" quiz when the farthest south an item reaches is Guyana.
Perhaps the quiz has changed since you left this comment, but Guayaquil and the homelands of gauchos are further south than Guyana. There's not too much in South America that starts with G - Goiânia? Goiás? I'm taking the Galapagos as part of Oceania rather than the Americas but I suppose that's an option?
What? The US invaded because a moderate Prime Minister was overthrown (and subsequently executed) by hardline opponents. Also because Reagan reckoned the civilian runway under construction on Grenada was actually being built to accommodate heavy military aircraft. Cuba had nothing to do with it, other than Reagan also thought that the presence of Cuban construction workers was suspicious. Hardly good reasons to invade a country.
You are correct. Reagan invaded because its Premier, Maurice Bishop, (a socialist, not a communist) was overthrown, and murder-ed by his former compatriot, Bernard Coard. Bishop had initially approached the USA for assistance when he seized power from Eric Gairy, and was rebuffed so he turned to Castro for assistance. While there were Cubans working on lengthening (and lighting) the airport, no quid-pro-quo existed. Bishop was firmly socialist while Coard, who was in Bishop's Cabinet, leaned toward Communism. That was what created the chasm between the former "friends". Reagan was aware of this and invaded because he feared what would happen if Coard gained power. (He was also intent on protecting the students attending St. George's Medical School)
I'd just like to say that the USA isn't the only country in the Americas, and this quiz does absolutely no justice to Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Chile, Brazil, Colombia, Venezuela, Paraguay, Uruguay or Argentina. Chichen Itza, Macchu Picchu, the Andes, Atacama, Amazon rainforest and river, the Rio de la Plata, Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires, the Pampas, Tierra del Fuego and Angel Falls are all significant geographical features in American countries which aren't the USA. And that doesn't even go into the Caribbean islands and Central America, which themselves barely got a mention. Most quizzes on this site are USA-centric, but this one in particular is ridiculous. Make the quiz more diverse.
I know the old "too US centric" argument is tiring and I admit that this one is at least a tiny bit less US centric than other quizzes of this series, but I still think that for G there are a bunch of good alternatives to make it more divers without making it too obscure (though I might be biased because for me as a European a lot of questions regarding the US are obscure and quite boring. So here are a few suggestions:
-Granada (colonial city on Lake Nicaragua)
-Guerrero (southern state of Mexico where Acapulco is located)
-Gallo Pinto (typical Central American dish with rice and beans)
-Guajira (Colombian peninsula where you can find South Americas northernmost point)
-Punta Gallinas (South Americans northernmost point)
-Goiás (Central Brazilian state) or Goiânia (its capital)
-Galapagos Islands (Ecuadorian Archipelago famously visited and studied by Darwin)
-Guanajuato (Central Mexican city where Miguel Hidalgo triggered the War of Independence)
