Too US-centric 15 out of 18 questions are US-related (2 for Canada and 1 for Mexico). What about the highest active volcano, which is located in Chile and which name begins with an O? What about the second largest river of South America, which name also begins with an O?
For me, making a fun quiz for our users is more important than spreading out the questions in some "fair" way. If I could put more questions about Latin America, I would have. I tried hard to find ones to include, but I couldn't. As it stands, the question about Latin America is the second least guessed. But if you feel I'm being lazy, then feel free to apply for a full refund.
I wasn't whiny, I was taunting. Still, 15/18 questions about the USA is too much. QM, your argument holds for the letter W but what could be the problem with O? I don't have many ideas, but angrobper14 rightly suggested river Orinoco, which is a famous south american feature.
Ok, I see the problem now. If you want to stick to physical geography, cities, regions or countries, it's indeed hard with letter O. Still I would suggest to include three questions about South America : River Orinoco, Ojos del Salado (the highest active volcano in the world that angrobper was talking about) and Olinda (a brazilian city famous for its colonial architecture and its carnival, and a UNESCO world heritage site). I also thought of river Ozama, that flows through Santo Domingo in Dominican Republic, but I would be a hard one...
@dunkinggandalf. I'm not immune to the criticism, and I have made an effort to make our quizzes less America-centric. But adding obscure or difficult questions for the sake of balance, is not constructive. A vocal minority objects to "American centrism". However, I know from our stats that quizzes that are too difficult don't get taken nearly as often. We need to cater to the needs of all our users, and not just the ones who complain.
Old faithful, Orlando, Ottawa, Ontario, Ohio, Oregon, Oklahoma, Omaha, Oakland, Oaxaca are general knowledge. Olympia and Orange, well... ok, why not. The others are far more obscure than river Orinoco. And anyway, I don't mind if there are some hard questions. I take quizzes to learn things, no to stroke my ego...
Quizmaster should be free to make the quiz however he likes, but it wouldn't hurt to change the text from "Guess these North and South American..." to "Guess these North American..."
Arp2600 is not only correct and Quizmaster talking nonsense, but Arp 2600 has actually massively understated his case. This quiz is billed as being about North and South America but has no questions about South America at all. Not one. What planet is this man on? By my reckoning, there are around 39 countries in America and his quiz only includes three, despite there being 18 questions! And yet he tries to defend it. Honestly, words fail me.
Inevitably some of these Americas quizzes are going to be US-centric. A few South American questions would be nice but it isn't worth resetting the quiz.
Hard to see why this says "the americas" or "north and south america", given that no questions pertain to South America. Also, the question should read 'mountain chain' or 'mountain range', but definitely not 'mountain change'.
Were any of the answers pertaining to something that was not located in the Americas? Did any of them not start with the letter "O"? If not then I'd say the title was spot on...
Zero questions about South American geography in a quiz supposedly about North and South American. Wow. At least change the title so those of us who want to learn about other places besides the US can avoid this one.
Anybody else find it ironic that the University of Mississippi is in a city called Oxford? Oxford University in Oxfordshire England is often cited as the best university in the entire world, usually beating out Cambridge, Harvard, etc. And Mississippi consistently ranks 50th out of 50 states for education achievement in the US.
Well lets see, the quiz say The Americas Geography by Letter - O. Are all the answers in the Americas? Yep. Do they all start with O? Yep. Works for me.
Even if you don't change the quiz, at least change the name to "North American Geography by Letter-O". The description says:
"Guess these North and South American geographical answers that start with the letter O." I have no problem with this North American quiz, but you should advertise it as such instead of advertising it as a quiz that represents both continents.
Can use "Brazilian slogan: Ordem e Progresso", "Baffin Island's highest mountain: Mount Odin", "Venezuela's longest river: Orinoco", "World's highest volcano: Ojos del Salado", "Cat that looks like a small jaguar: Ocelot" to make it 20. Also 15 out of 19 questions is US-centric, maybe remove some of them.
Its insane that you have a mountain range in Washington state that only 21% of people have guessed but not river Orinoco, which would also make the quiz less US-centric. I really dont see how that attains to the arguments which with you have answered previous comments.
I always avoid US quizzes and this was one. At most North America
