I guess they changed that clue, cause it wasnt in there for me. Guess the clue now is the transferer of bubonic plague.
Couldnt think of anythign but rats for a while, and being f-themed, fly... (but that allready was another answer) got it in the end though. Hopping pest would ve been mucch easier though
I've never heard of a megabat. To me it's always been a flying fox for a fruit bat. When I lived in Australia you could see them flying around at night sometimes. Beautiful animals
It's a regional thing. That's what they are called in my area of the US mid-south. I was in school before I ever heard the word firefly. http://mentalfloss.com/article/66185/regional-breakdown-firefly-vs-lightning-bug (At least QM didn't use peenie wallie.)
Pretty sure 'lightning bug' was used in the movie - Sweet Home Alabama, might be wrong, but I've heard it a few times in movies. Quite like it. In NZ we don't have those, would love to see them.
There's a random longitudinal line in the US (and I suppose Canada) that lightning bugs don't live west of. I remember the first time I traveled east of the Mississippi as a kid and was entranced by them. Now that I see them every summer I forget to admire them.
The fact is that British 'aristocrats' still hunt them, only now it is technically illegal. Since the same group of people control the law, perpetrators are rarely punished.
Flying foxes are but one genus of the megabat (which is a suborder and unlikely to be commonly used (hence it being the lowest scoring clue)). This clue needs updating/clarification - something like 'Bat of the Indian and South Western Pacific oceans.
I thought "they travel in schools" was related to nits/head lice in some way..... like a bug kids pass on at school, didn't catch on it meant fish! Nice quiz :-)
could think of several dutch flatfish (well the names, not their nationalty haha) but only halibot came to mind as an english name (still not bad I think...)
I have heard the word flounder before, but would ve never came up with it.
How about a Fennec (fox), Fossa or French bulldog to pump up the number of questions? They are not that obscure and should get reasonable percentage of correct answers. Maybe even Fire salamander or Frigatebird, but their numbers can be a bit worse.

That's a really weird description

who would know where they live... (unless you live near yourself..)
