He never said it was easier. In fact he said ....AS FOR THAT, THE PASSING THERE HAD WORN EACH ABOUT THE SAME. Could be that he is poking fun at humans who think that where they are in life is because of some momentous choice they made long ago, (or at least that's what they tell people). And so even though he chooses one of two roads that are ABOUT THE SAME, in the retelling of his choice later in life, he will also make it sound overly significant and simply say, I TOOK THE ONE LESS TRAVELED BY.
