r/whoosh There will be at least a loser, if this can comfort me... I wonder how stubborn Mbappé is gonna be if he win his second World Cup with 23 years old. By far I prefer Messi with one than Mbappé with two. Sadly, Messi was born in the wrong country.
I know that, but the third place match is just a consolation prize. I really wanted there to be a winner that had never won a World Cup. Otherwise, the games are kind of boring. I pretty much called the final from the beginning. I would have said France vs. Brazil to begin with, but France vs. Argentina would be a close second.
It’s impressive how Brazil can throw curses on the teams that eliminate them. It happened with Germany after 2014 (eliminated twice at group stage), Belgium after 2018 (eliminated at group stage), and hopefully will happen with Croatia after 2022.
But being honest, Belgium can be a World Cup winner if the team gets a strong collective.
I also like it when new teams win and I usually root for the underdog... but this year, I'm all behind Argentina. Messi's worked so hard to get to this point and he definitely deserves a win before he retires.
Portuguese still believe that Ronaldo will play 2026 FWC with 41 years old, so I don't suspect that Mertens will be sprinting as a gazelle with 39 years old. And you see:
Messi deserves the World Cup, Argentina doesn't deserve the World Cup, and consequently we can conclude that Argentina doesn't deserve Messi.
Actually, it appears that it did exist. The Napoleonic Wars began in 1803 and per Wikipedia, “The term ‘United Kingdom’ became official in 1801 when the parliaments of Great Britain and Ireland each passed an Act of Union, uniting the two kingdoms and creating the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland.” I think Quizmaster chose to put only the Napoleonic Wars and not the Seven Years’ Wars for that very reason.
What's sad about that? Che Guevara is a famous historical figure. He took part in the Cuban Revolution--which alone should clue one into the fact he's from Latin America--and has a Hispanic-sounding name. He's obviously not from France. I don't see how it's alarming if "too many" people get an answer right--what's alarming is if too many people get it wrong.
I didn't, but I thought it would make the most sense for someone from a Spanish-speaking country to be a revolutionist from another Spanish-speaking country.
This comment is completely and utterly nonsensical.
First off, a fair percentage of people who got that answer correct probably didn't specifically know that he was born in Argentina, they simply made the logical guess that he was more likely to have been born in South America than in Europe, and also more likely to have been born in a Spanish-speaking country than in a French-speaking country.
And beyond that... I (and undoubtedly lots of other people who frequent a quiz website) know a lot about many of the most evil people in history... that doesn't mean I support them, or condone their actions in any way. What's "sad" is that so many people don't know anything about these historical figures, and will just blithely allow the kinds of horrors they perpetrated to happen again.
In the future, I'd advise actually thinking about what you're saying before saying (or typing) it, and also thinking about whether it's worded logically, before just blurting out utter and complete nonsense.
Implying Guevara is one of the most evil people in history is sadly indicative of the extent of anti-commie propaganda. Now I'm not a supporter of communism nor defend Guevara's actions, but he's no different than thousands of other war leaders. And a lot of the stuff that he's accused of is plain fabrication made up by some far right people.
It's great how that worked out for Qatar! Got to host a World Cup just on their own merits and the obviously good idea that is such a competition is 45°C heat in the middle of a desert, without any corruption in the selection process.
It turned out to be a great opportunity to never talk about all the slave workers that don't exist or, Human rights abuses that are totally not still happening.
And they got to have their two most valued football properties (Mbappé and Messi, who both at the time played for Qatar-owned PSG) square off in the final without any referreeing controversy (in the England or Netherlands games, for instance).
Can't wait for the same thing to happen in Saudi Arabia in 2034 (since virtually no other country will be allowed to submit a bid).
Thanks FIFA! You're the-opposite-of-ruining football, you non-corrupt anti-mafia!

One for the third place play-off too?
