I hypothesize that the author of this quiz took the ambiguity of listing the Russian Federation as either a European or Asian country in order to allow a higher order of magnification on the rest of the Asian continent. This has the effect of making Bahrain, Qatar, Brunei, Singapore, and East Timor slightly more visible on the map. In other words, the decision was not a statement about what is "European" or "Asian" (or whether the distinction between the continents is anything more than a Eurocentric historical legacy, not reflecting actual geographical distinctions). It was a 'cheat' of sorts to make the map quiz more practical.
It's obvious that Europe is not divided geographically from Asia. When you look at a blank map all the European countries appear to be an Asian peninsula. If not geographical, then the division has to be by politics, population, and culture. Those are not always easy to define and can change. Therefore even though mountain ranges and such are used to draw a line, I do not think people will ever all agree on where the boundaries actually lie. At least QM is consistent for this site.
The typical practice is that the ruling governments get to decide what their country is called, both its long- and short-forms (cf., the Czech Republic's very recent suggestion that its shortened name be Czechia). That's why Persia is now Iran, Zaire is now the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Burma is now Myanmar.
You forgot Russia (the largest country of the world) which is in Asia and in Europe as are Turkey, Egypt and some say Cyprus, too! How come you include Turkey and Cyprus but not Russia?
because Cyprus is wholly in Asia and Turkey is mostly in Asia, it just has a tiny part of it's land in Europe. Russia is a point of view, land-wise they lie mostly in Asia, but population-wise it's mostly in Europe...
You download A svg map or you can copy the quiz. Once your on Create Quiz Press on SVG Map and then press on Upload next press choose a file once you find it and then the SVG Map is there on your quiz. Use Abbreviations or Paths That's How You make a map quiz.
Dear pie31415926535, welcome to the world of Jetpunk! In here, Taiwan is a country, and will always be. And I think the person you are referring to is Quizmaster.
I got 100% in first try then I forgot 1 country at the third time i even got lesser than 50% That's called a true idiot 😅 I am from India which is in Asia. Only true geography fan lovers can get full marks. So if you got full marks in this very difficult test then you are smarter than Albert Einstein 😉 🤔 😏
I enjoy having the thingy with the answers on the side. It takes too much time to type and spell correctly. It is really hard to find those kinds of quizzes in my opinion. THIS IS AMAZING!! Please do these but for the world. :)
Why push a narrative on such an easy quiz? Russia is Asian, first of all. Why is Taiwan a country but not Palestine? Neither have UN representation. And why consider the Zionist entity a country when its not recognized by over 30 countries? Just pure politics.
The inclusion of Taiwan and not Palestine is what is used on all official Jetpunk quizzes which is why it is like that on this quiz. Russia is primarily in Asia geographically but in regard to culture and population density Russia is European which is why it is not included in Asia. Respectfully there has to be a cut off somewhere and Quizmaster has chosen to primarily recognize the nations which have been recognized by the United States as the standard for what is considered a country. If you do not agree with his decision and are greatly offended by the inclusion of Israel and Taiwan while Palestine is excluded, then I would recommend using a different site.
Some countries are really a bit in nomans land, both geographically aswell culturally
Russia is debatable as it's usually put with Europe and Palestine is not considered a country by some definitions.
BTW I thought cyprus was eu member
TBH the haredst are the stans.
Taiwan is not a country. Please fix. Thanks!
Some random Canadian
Also Russia is in Asia.
