They had an awesome live show too. I think they're still touring a little. I remember seeing something that they were playing in Brooklyn a couple years ago but I couldn't make it for some reason. They were local to me when I was a kid in northern Illinois - as I recall they were from Lake Geneva WI.
I just kept looking and looking through the comments. I knew someone was gonna whine about something or other not really being an antonym. I can go now. My experience of this quiz is complete.
I'm not complaining about words "not really being antonyms". I'm complaining about the philosophy which consists in opposing the human sexes. In my opinion, there are very few differences between men and women.
I totally agree that 1. male and female are not opposites and 2. gender is a spectrum. However, this just seems unnecessarily nitpicky. Can you think of a better antonym for Queen? Maybe "Commoner" or "Peasant," but arguably those aren't "antonyms" of Queen either, and they would be even harder to guess. The quiz caveats even explicitly say that the antonyms aren't always exact, so it's not as though Quizmaster is necessarily endorsing a binary view of gender. Like it or not, "King" is the only thing that makes sense here. And giving this quiz 1 star just for that reason is kinda a sucky thing to do.
It's not nitpicky, it's visceral. This upsets me really much, and I don't take any of those antonyms quizzes anymore because of that. Because I know that it will make me angry and I really don't need that...
I fully understand your argument here (and even agree with it) and you're fully entitled to that opinion. I even think it's okay for you to not take it--if you disagree with it, that's your personal opinion and I won't judge you. I just think it's really disrespectful to deride an entire quiz (and, by extension, the quiz maker) and publicly announce it deserves one star just because you disagree with relatively small detail on it, especially considering that it's a clue that logically makes sense, has no good alternative, and isn't meant to be hurtful or politically charged.
@Arp: If you're not taking these quizzes anymore, why are you back in the comments section more than 3 years later? Just wanted to add another layer of complaining? You might wanna consider to stop imposing that on yourself.
The tears of the vocal minority will never stop flowing if there is an audience to see them. It's really sad to watch them try to bend logic or biology to fit their fictional narrative.
The Crusher: Well, I just came because it was on the front page on July 13, and I knew I had made comments years ago. I didn't take the quiz, and didn't even look at the questions, just made a few short answers. The one in this thread was just explanatory, not meant to be aggressive or what.
Why am I making this one, then? Once again, because I know there were a few negative responses, and I'm not one to shut up easily, so I came to check one last time. That's right, I won't come back this time, see you next time it's on the front page :p.
This type of comment is just the worst. This quiz is given to you for free, with someone putting in the time and effort to make it somewhat fun. For the record, I believe many people would say that gender is on a scale, with one end being male and the other being female, and many other genders in between. I would think that sufficiently explains why one might consider them opposites, just like the extremes on any scale. I give your comment one star! * Look how lonely that little star is! How do YOU like it? Huh?
Oh yeah, just sneak yourself two extra stars around "yawns". Doesn't count. Your flippant attitude also gets one star! And @burntofferings4all... Do you feel that you have all the answers for how people should live their lives and define their identities? You don't know what it's like to be other people. How it feels to be them. So why do you want to impose on others your concept of identity?
Never heard of some of these but came close with Dying Kennedys, New Peace, Fat Boy Skinny, Rebellious Nature, We Might Be Giants, and Happiness Division. Good way to get the brain going this morning.
Cool quiz! Particularly loved the Sadness Multiplication and Antidote clues. Never heard of the band in the Living Nixons answer but guessed it with the first try.
Well, police are the opposite of criminals after all, the lines are a little blurred these days, with all the propping up of violent criminals as heroes and martyrs, but the facts do not change.
Almost half of these aren't actually antonyms. That's a bit too much to brush off with a disclaimer. It gets to the point where the quiz title is not really accurate.
(and he's right)
A little weird that (essentially) the same band was used twice.
Why am I making this one, then? Once again, because I know there were a few negative responses, and I'm not one to shut up easily, so I came to check one last time. That's right, I won't come back this time, see you next time it's on the front page :p.
I'm a big Helium Submarine fan myself.
All in all, I love the quiz!
