Somehow I managed to misspell Erie, and though I've been to Rochester I didn't know it was that close to any of the great lakes. Other than those the only one I missed that I would have been able to guess was Green Bay so I don't feel too bad about quitting three minutes early.

I assumed as much, given it's on the quiz. I just didn't know it. I was there for a convention and barely left the hotel.

To be honest, downtown Rochester isn't within a 3-hour walk of the lake. Some of the suburbs are on the shore, but the city is situated on the falls.

I almost forgot Toronto. Could get Oshawa and Benton Harbor, but almost forgot the only Canadian city I've lived in.

I love seeing my hometown on a quiz. Benton Harbor is on an upward swing... though that is inevitable when there is no other direction in which to go.

I so badly wanted to see my city (Burlington Ontario, population ~ 183,000) but I guess we got lumped in with either Hamilton or Toronto

Where did you get your population info from? I'm originally from Green Bay and the population is around 110,000. Additionally, I lived in Milwaukee within the past 5 years and there is no way it tripled in size since I left.

"Based on definitions of Metro Areas by the US and Canadian censuses"

Metro areas are much larger than the city limits.

Depending on the MSA definitions used, the metro areas for Saginaw and Grand Rapids can touch the lakes and would be larger than the bottom two.

Grand Rapids would be included in Holland and have a population of 1.4 million. 6th on the list.

Benton Harbor's population is only 10,000. Muskegon's is only 38,000 and Holland's is only 33,500. If we go by metro as it appears, then the peopulations would be Benton Harbor: 156,813 people, Muskegon: 172,188 and Holland would be bumped up to 1,433,288.

For starters, that 1.4 million population includes Muskegon; the Grand Rapids CSA is Grand Rapids-Holland-Muskegon. Holland has its own MSA, just like Muskegon, just like Grand Rapids. MSA means Metropolitan Statistical Area, which is the immediate metropolitan area. CSA means COMBINED Statistical Area, which includes a larger area, which, for Grand Rapids, as I've already stated, is Grand Rapids-Holland-Muskegon.

Why isn't Oswego NY on the list? It borders Lake Ontario and is part of the Syracuse NY MSA, which has a population per 2010 Census of 663,029. Seems like it would fit the rationale for including Benton Harbor......

I never would have gotten Muskegon, Holland / Grand Haven, or Benton Harbor.

But if we're talking METRO AREAS, then really Oshawa should be part of Toronto and Windsor should be part of Detroit.

If you look at this part of the Wikipedia page for the Toronto Metro Area ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greater_Toronto_Area#Census_metropolitan_area ), it specifically states that although Oshawa is the central part of its own CMA, it is still part of the Toronto GTA.

If you look at Windsor and Detroit on Google Maps, you can clearly see that they are separated by less than 1/2 of a mile from each other by the Detroit River. Windsor is much smaller than Detroit. If Detroit wasn't there right across the river from it, Windsor wouldn't be there, either.
