but, probably because they never celebrate Takos Tuesdays there, it's still only the 3rd largest city in Saudi Arabia. 4th, if we're going by urban area and counting all of the Eastern Provinces as part of Dammam. Though, if you include all of the pilgrims there during hajj, it would jump up to about the same level as Tashkent.
You know your topic. Even if your level is high and by looking at your other posts, you seem to have a wonderful general culture, you must have lived in the area ;)
bit of a geography nerd in general, and very well traveled, but yes I did live in Saudi Arabia for over 6 years and had an apartment in Dammam for 2. Very briefly resided in Khobar. Had a house in Riyadh for 4 years.
Though Dubai is 87% expats, I think it's still a majority-Muslim country. Many of those expats are Muslims from India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, the Philippines, Indonesia, Sudan, Saudi Arabia, etc. However, citpopulation gives them a total population of only just over 2 million. The fact that there aren't really any suburbs of Dubai except Sharjah (all surrounded by desert) makes it seem smaller in comparison to other urban areas.
I'm suspicious of that claim. They keep building more and more giant skyscrapers there... but filling them up? Different story. When I was driving my ex around she kept remarking on how oddly empty the place looks. Very sharp contrast to cities on the list that are actually full of people like Cairo or Istanbul... or even Riyadh.
Talk about cities full of people, ever come to Karachi? You won't have a second to rest your eyes. Also, since you'll be a tourist, you would probably get everything for free, as the people are very kind and welcoming.
Seriously when will people realize that the answers to these quizzes are in English and use the English word for the names of the cities. Who cares how they're written in other languages as these quizzes are written in English. Is that really too hard to understand?
It is not a difficult concept to get your head round. If you want to do quizzes in your own language you have to find a quiz that is in your language. If I was on the e.g. Croatian quiz site, I would not be commenting that the names used should be in English........ geeeeeeez!
The 'e' that those languages insert isn't in the original Persian spelling of Tehran or in the Persian pronunciation. It is added because most European languages don't pronounce a 'h' at the end of a syllable. By adding a vowel the 'h' gets pronounced, but you sacrifice accuracy in another way by adding a syllable that isn't there in the Persian. The English spelling is more accurate, though given we don't pronounce 'h' it's debatable as to who is actually pronouncing it most closely to the Persian.
With so many "biggest cities" quizzes around, it's getting a a bit annoying. I'm sure I've seen Baghdad, Khartoum and even Mogadishu at around 8M at some quizzes and yet none of the make this quiz.
I know this is 2 years ago, but in case anyone in the future sees, most of the Muslims in Detroit live in a different city, Dearborn, which is still 89% white.
Take it up with citypopulation.de. I trust them to get the numbers right. Keep in mind that official statistics can be very weird in countries that have huge populations of "guest" workers from overseas.
"the number there is the entire population of the country" Seems about right to me. Apart from the Kuwait City metro area, the country is entirely filled with empty desert.
I was pretty sure there was going to be a north nigerian city, and wasted a lot of my time. I guess most of their big cities are a bit under 50% muslim.
Kuala Lumpur has a muslim majority. According to the most recent census in 2020, 63.5 percent of the population practices Islam; 18.7 percent, Buddhism; 9.1 percent, Christianity; 6.1 percent, Hinduism; 9 percent, other religious groups that include animists, Confucianists, Taoists, Sikhs, Jehovah's Witnesses, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day
You gotta replace them with something less pricey_
Then we can all get on with our lives.
46.4% Muslim, which is not quite a majority.
u dont kno KL?
The sound that goes in that spot in the name Tehran doesn't exist in any of these languages, that's why you end up seeing it spelled different ways.
Also probably because Kuwait City makes up more than 70% of the entire country's population.
