Roughly half of "Everything Is Illuminated" takes place in Poland. It switches back and forth between two stories, one of which takes place there. Maybe Ukraine would edge it out 51-49% or so, but if you want a clear-cut single nation, you should probably choose a different book. Might I suggest "The Beach" by Alex Garland (Thailand)?
Similarly, "Angels and Demons", while it is a clever choice which makes you think when "Italy" is not the answer, I would guess at least as much occurs in Rome as the Vatican (then there's the Swiss part, but you did say most...)
My Latin teacher, Miss Rosebrook, liked to tell us that it made her ill if we spelled Iliad with two "L"s. And she thought that it was odd to spell Odyssey with two "D"s.
I know that for most Jetpunk quizzes England is counted as UK. But for such a classic as Pride and Prejudice, which could never have been set in Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland, surely England should be an acceptable answer?
Depends on the time period. Before the unification of Scotland and England I might agree with you. But I think this is set much later - so its United Kingdom.
Not an actual error with the quiz, but the answer Germany/Poland doesn't have spaces between the slash, while Turkey / Greece does: and it bugged me during the whole rest of the quiz
For the Iliad, it took place in Troy, which, according to mythology, was set in Asia Minor (near Turkey), so technically, Greece isn't a correct answer.
Why go out of your way to specify modern-day country when you take the L and say Tin Drum is set in Germany/Poland and the Iliad is set in Turkey/Greece
Because I like complaining, I will point out that this quiz is entirely Eurocentric even for non-Western countries. That is, the non-Western countries of Uganda, Japan, Congo, and India are all represented in literature through the eyes of Western novelists. There are plenty of well-regarded Indian and Japanese novelists that could have their works included on this quiz. Maybe I will make my own quiz in response to this, actually.
As the only think I know from "Hearts of darkness" is its relation to the film Apocalypse Now, I unsuccessfully tried every conceivable country in the south-east Asia... Oh, well.
that's kinda the opposite, where I give the setting (time and place) and you have to guess the book. I'd love it if everyone checked it out!
...Legoland.
Major favorite of mine. Recommended.
"Oh, hmm, that didn't work. But I know Pride and Prejudice took place in England. What to do . . . what else could I try?"
*hurls computer out window in frustration*
"THERE IS NO ANSWER."
